How the Internet Changed Everything The internet is by no means just a passing fad, despite what some critics might say to the contrary. Like the wheel, the arch and the printing press, it is an invention to shape the ages. Anything that comes after will have to build on it, or reinvent it. The idea of globally connecting people together will always be original to the internet.
The Many Uses and Advantages of Using the Internet The internet has a rich history, rooted in the same mindset as every other creative invention that changed the world: making life easier. Communicating over long distances has always been a difficult set back. Armies had to wait for days to get crucial commands by horseback. People painstakingly translated Morse code and telegrams to convey the most basic of messages long-distance. Large documents traveled by train, or horseback for days on end before they reached their final destination. The world needed a way to transfer information over very long distances in just a matter of moments. With that background, people began creating a new tool. They began working on a technological improvement to move information around the globe in an instant. The idea was first directed at connecting two, independently operating computers to share information, and then move up from there. These connections were soon expanded into networks that would allow multiple computers in an area to share information. Those networks were conceptualized to connect into one great Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) which would allow computers to communicate from incredibly lengthy distances. This was standardized in 1982 and has been building itself ever sense.
Development of Computers Over the decades that followed, not only did computers become available in nearly every home, but so too did the internet. Average people were using it to surf the knowledge made available to everyone. Electronic mail was quickly made available for anyone that wanted it. Soon, letters were flying around in cyber space, delivering messages to people hundreds of miles away in just a matter of seconds.
In terms of military benefit, commanders on the mainland could give complex orders quickly and quietly. Morse code and telegrams were thrown out, virtually overnight and the world began to embrace this awesome technology.
It has continued to make life easier, and will continue to do so, as long as people still use it. Today, it can answer almost any question you have.
