a mer ica’s beach
Welcome to Daytona Beach!
From the expansive beaches to the east to the stunning parks and meandering rivers to the west, this is a destination that promises to wow you. Put any preconceived notions aside and expect the unexpected. Dubbed, The World’s Most Famous Beach, the hard packed sand is where motorsport racing began and continued for a half century. Today you can follow the trailblazers and drive and park on the beach. If that’s not your cup of tea, there are sections where driving is prohibited. With 23 miles of sun drenched coastline, the choice is yours. While you are on the beach, be sure to soak in all it has to offer – everything from sunbathing to volleyball to curling up with a good book under a floral umbrella while the surf plays its music in the background. Build a sandcastle while you build memories. Our calendar is brimming with events and activities, so be sure to use our colorful, detailed maps to locate the attractions. In fact, carry a copy of SEE wherever you go

and you will always be up to date on happenings around town. Look for the NEW symbol for insider’s tips on the latest experiences. On a budget? Check out the EXTRAS on pages 14-15 for side trips and entertaining things to do that are inexpensive or free. The Daytona International Speedway is getting a NEW overhaul. Coming soon, visitors will find additional seating and a variety of unique retail shops and restaurants. And stay tuned for a NEW addition at the Museum of Arts and Sciences. The Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art is a 26 thousand square foot building that will include the Brown’s collections of 19th century art and a pictorial history of old and new Florida. While we’re waiting, it’s business as usual at both venues. Enjoy this copy of SEE and thank you for choosing the Daytona Beach Area for your vacation!

ACTIVITIES
getting the most out of your vacation

When you think of activities, I’m sure the first thing that comes to mind is the beach, the centerpiece of Daytona’s Tourism. While you are playing on the 26 miles of beach, be sure to check out the surfers. This area is one of the top ten places in the world for hanging ten. You will be in awe of their skill at mastering the waves and might consider the possibility of giving it a whirl yourself. And when you look for ‘something else to do’, there is an array of options. Finding activities is never a problem whether you are in Daytona Beach or any of its neighboring communities like Ormond Beach, DeLand or New Smyrna Beach. There is a never ending litany of happenings that promises to get you out of your hotel room. World class courses await golfers and angling enthusiasts

will be torn between inshore and offshore fishing. Art connoisseurs will be immersed in the number of galleries in the area. Parks are dotted all around the Daytona Beach area and many offer the opportunity to hike, kayak or canoe. If you are feeling more sedate, take a leisurely, informative boat ride along the river or bring along binoculars and do a little aquatic bird watching. The site of one of America’s favorite pastimes is about to get even better. The Daytona International Speedway, home of NASCAR, is getting a complete facelift and NEW additions. The iconic Speedway will spend $400 million upgrading and adding more seats, shops and restaurants over the next couple of years. While the refurbishing will be continuous, you’ll notice many of the changes right away. Look for a new ‘wow’ moment, every time you visit.
