SHOPPING
a shopper’s dream
Shopping is a delightful part of every vacation, whether you are picking up new sunglasses for yourself or t-shirts for the family; expect to have fun every step of the way. For the surf and sand set, Maui Nix Surf Shop has a wide range of outdoor sports gear, everything from skate and surf boards to the clothes and shoes that go with each activity. The Sand Box is one of our best-loved shopping emporiums. Take a look at their seasonal sportswear in beautiful summer colors. As usual, many things are on sale too. Visit downtown districts lined with unique shops and explore the historic surroundings. You’ll often find galleries with original art and photography, and there’s usually a café nearby where you can pull up a chair. Then, eat at one of the restaurants or take in a movie. This is a place where shopping is fun!
Everyone can look like a local with our Florida fashions. Don’t forget to visit the consignment stores and the Farmer's Markets. From the finest designer labels to the biggest bargains, this is a shopper’s paradise! Visit the PANDORA Store at the Volusia Mall. This is the place to find the newest styles and collections of charms, rings, bracelets and more. If you want to get lost for a few hours, shopping the huge selections in any one of these places is where you’ll want to go. Once you have that golden tan, you’ll need some new apparel to show it off. Follow your instincts as you browse through multi-hued selections of clothing. Sunny skies call for softly comfortable clothing that moves with you. Add some shell jewelry and glitzy sandals and you’re ready for an evening out!

Eldora House This house is one of a few remaining artifacts of earlier life (built c. 1913) in a small waterfront community on Mosquito Lagoon. The town of 100 people existed between 1877 and 1900. The city's decline began after three freezes during the late 1880s and 1890s that destroyed the town's citrus crops. After 1910, the Eldora "State" House was built. Open Fri. – Sun., 12 – 4 p.m., located in N. District of Canaveral National Seashore, 386-428-3384. (grid FF/GG - 8)
The Sugar Mill Ruins Once a highly functional sugar mill, built during the early 19th century. This 17 acre historic site contains the sugar mill, as well as other buildings, which were destroyed during the war between the Seminole Indians and the United States. Sugar Mill Ruins, 600 Mission Dr., 386-427-2284. (grid FF/GG - 8)
Turtle Mound This prehistoric archaeological site dates back to more than 14,000 years ago and was created by the Timucuan Indian civilization over a period of several hundred years. This kitchen midden is made up of oyster shell remains and resembles the shape of a turtle, hence the name. Follow a park trail to its peak as it leads to a spectacular panoramic view of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, 386-428-3384, www.NPS.gov/cana/index.htm. DeLand Wings One of DeLand's most photographed locations is located in an alley in the 100 block of S. Woodland Blvd. What started off as an impulsive chalk drawing by artist Erica Group, is now a beautiful painting of a set of angel wings. Look for the wings, take a selfie & post your pic on facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #DelandWings. (grid AA-6)
Murals of DeLand Take a step back in time and go on a historical tour, a Mural walk if you will, down the streets of Historic DeLand. See memories of the city's past painted on the walls (15 in total)- each one tells a different story. You can download a Mural Walk brochure, with a map showing the location of each work of art. www.MainstreetDeland.org. (grid AA-6)
Stetson Mansion A Victorian mansion built in 1886, for famed hat maker John B Stetson. Each room is decorated differently and daily tours are available. At Christmas, each room has it's own tree & it's own unique themed decorations– a truly spectacular sight! Reservations required. 1031 Camphor Rd., DeLand, FL, 386-873-0167, www.StetsonMansion.com. DINING
a world of dining choices
You’ve come to the right place for fresh Atlantic seafood. Start with an appetizer of coconut shrimp, gator tail or fried clams. Seafood is prepared many delicious ways here, from the classic grilled fish sandwich served with crisp fries to plump shrimp floating in a tantalizing sauce.
If you enjoy something different like Cajun, Polynesian or Mexican, there are lots of restaurants that can satisfy your desire for mouth-watering ethnic cuisines. Savory barbeque sandwiches and grilled burgers are perfect when you’re on the go.
Dining out can be some of the most relaxing things you do on a carefree vacation. With nearly every style of cuisine and many restaurants with stunning views of the water, you are sure to find several to please you in the Daytona Beach area.
At night you’ll find many different establishments offer live music and dancing. Casual attire is all that’s needed at most restaurants, but if you are in the mood for a more formal environment, we have that too. For more dining ideas to suit your mood, look over our Dining Guide on page 38. Be sure to check out the back pages for valuable coupons too.
Caribbean Jack’s has a Tiki Hut overlooking the Halifax River and marina, to get you in that ‘tropical’ mood. Plus, experience the quality of national brands in their 'easy on the pocket' selection of local Florida spirits and Beers.
Everybody gives into a little temptation on vacation. When you crave a decadent dessert, go ahead, give in. A slice of Key lime pie or chocolate cheesecake is a scrumptious way to end the day.
