(Seguin) -- The Seguin Lady Matadors fell to 1-1 in District 26-5A play with a 7-1 setback to Smithson Valley on Friday night at the Fields at Huber Ranch.
First team all-state pitcher Madeline Haun struck out 12 for the Rangers. The junior went the distance in the circle to pick up the win.
The Lady Matadors got their lone run across in the third inning when Morgan Schultze led off with a single. Brylee Weiding then doubled to move Schultze to third. Schultze would then score on a wild pitch.
The Rangers would bat around in the fifth inning and plate all their runs in the game to get the victory. Smithson Valley improved to 1-1 on the young district season.
In the field for Seguin, Lady Mat third baseman D’yanna Priestly had a couple of web gems at the hot corner, making a diving catch on a Smithson Valley bunt attempt in the third inning. She also made a diving stop on a harder
grounder to steal a base hit.
The Lady Matadors will look to get back in the win column in district when they head to Kerrville-Tivy tomorrow afternoon to take on the 2-0 Lady Antlers. First pitch takes place at 2 O’clock.
(Marion) -- The Marion Lady Bulldogs took games from Natalia and Karnes City on Friday and Saturday. Marion beat the Lady Mustangs 7-6 at home on a walk-off error in the seventh on Friday and then blasted the Lady Badgers, 18-1 on the road on Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs are off for Spring Break, they’ll open District 26-3A play against Cole at home next Tuesday.
(San Marcos) -- The Seguin Matadors fell in their final two games at the San Marcos baseball tournament on
Friday, dropping a 12-1 decision to Harker Heights and an 8-5 game to host San Marcos.
The Mats will be back on the diamond Tuesday to open up their district schedule. Seguin will travel to Pieper to take on the Warriors at 3 O’clock on Tuesday afternoon.
(Hallettsville) -- The Navarro Panthers also dropped their final two games at the Hallettsville tournament on Friday. Calhoun took down the Panthers, 15-6 in the first game and then 2023 Class 2A state finalist Shiner squeaked past Navarro, 3-2 in the second game.

Children Fentanyl Exposures Up 449% (Portland, OR) -- The number of children treated for exposure to fentanyl nationwide is up 449 percent. Researchers at Oregon Health and Science University analyzed data from all U.S. Poison Centers. In 2016, there were just ten cases of exposure in children younger than six. By 2023, that number increased to 539 children. When exposed to fentanyl they can lose consciousness, stop breathing and suffer brain damage. Eighty-two percent of the unintentional exposures happened in homes. Researchers are urging fentanyl users to keep the drugs out children’s reach.
Ozempic Is Center Of Health Debate In City Council (New York, NY) -- There’s a push for better health messaging for weight loss drugs in New York City. City Councilwoman Julie Menin says the health department should make sure everyone knows the risks when it comes to using drugs like Ozempic for weight loss. More than onemillion people are diabetic, and Menin says those people should be in front of the line when it comes to getting access to drugs like Ozempic. The bill introduced by Menin calls on the health department to craft better messaging that describes how the weight loss medicine works.

(Washington, DC) -- A new study shows a single dose of LSD could provide lasting anxiety relief. The FDA has granted breakthrough therapy status to an LSD formula from Mind Medicine Inc. to treat generalized anxiety disorder. The study found the drug was generally well tolerated with most adverse events rated as mild to moderate, transient and occurring on dosing days. It found the most common adverse effects when patients first took the drug were hallucinations, euphoric mood and nausea among others. Mind Medicine plans to meet with the FDA in the next few months to start an expanded clinical program in the second half of this year.
New Jersey Officials “Concerned” Over Mumps Outbreak (Flemington, NJ) -- An outbreak of mumps in New Jersey has health officials concerned and recommending MMR shots. The Health Department is currently investigating eight suspected cases of mumps in one family cluster in Hunterdon County. Officials believe this cluster is connected to international travel. Symptoms of mumps include fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and appetite loss, appearing later as a swelling of the salivary glands or puffy cheeks and a tender, swollen jaw. There’s also been one confirmed measles case.

TLU’s Dr. Eric Daub Piano Recital
