Seguin mobile app, trip planner now available New mobile app to even prove beneficial for locals during pandemic By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) – Get ready to download a whole new way to visit and discover Seguin. Visit Seguin has officially launched a brand-new mobile app and trip planner on its website. Blaire Zahn, the newest member of the Seguin Main Street and Convention and Visitors Bureau team, says gone are the days of printing out all the places you want to visit and mapping them out one-byone. Zahn, the city departments’ new assistant director, says designed with their partners at Visit Widget, this tool provides a new way to explore what the city has to offer, including hotels, popular restaurants, activities, shopping, and more.

“We wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to find everything there is to do in Seguin whether it be a great restaurant or an event that is happening, live music, whatever it may be that’s going on at the moment so they can plan that out and map it out and just make it as easy and as user friendly as possible,” said Zahn. Visit Seguin launches new mobile app in tour of Seguin also download the mobile app so that then on your phone, it is available for you as well. So, it has both aspects, the web, and the mobile app version,” said Zahn. Zahn says thanks to the new map, adventurers will discover exciting outdoor attractions, foodies will be able to find their favorite cuisine, and history buffs will be able to easily map out their own historical tour of Seguin. “So, the goal in the end is kind of to expand a visitor’s perspective. When you come into town, you Google what restaurant you want to go to and you’ll find a lot of your bigger more name brand type places but we want people to find everything even the little mom and pop shops kind of helping to boost up and ease in the playing field if you well. So, our goal is really to get people not to just go to the one spot in Seguin that they’ve heard of before but to be here and them say ‘hey, but this place looks pretty cool. Maybe, we should try this, or this is on our way home. Maybe, we should stop in here and have some tacos’ or whatever that might be. It really just creates that again, easier way for people to explore and find other options that they might not have thought of before,” said Zahn.

PLANNER, continued from page 1 Zahn says this new app was a great opportunity for the city to create a user-friendly tool so that people can map out a tour or trip to Seguin. She says it was also a fun way to freshen up their website without doing a website overhaul. “From the website, when you are on our homepage visitseguin.com, up on the right-hand corner, you’ll see a little tag that says ‘plan your trip.’ If you click that, it opens up our online interactive trip planner which is the same thing. It has a companion mobile app with it so you can plan your trip online. You can make an account and save everything and then you can

Although some might question Seguin’s timing for a new visitor’s app, Zahn believes that launching it now will only help it become a valuable tool for visitors. “Obviously, when we started developing this app, we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic but right now, it has become a way for us to make sure that everything is up to date as quickly as possible so we are able to go in and change within an instant that ‘oh wait, this restaurant is closed for the day’ or is temporarily closed or can only take this many people or whatever those stipulations may be, we can go in there and right away, we can edit that so we have that capability to kind of modify everything. Daily, everything changes around here. You have a business that is open and the next day, they have to clean up and so we want to be able to let everybody know ‘hey, they are closed for cleaning.

Come back tomorrow.’ We are also hoping it’s a good way to kind of support our businesses right now,” said Zahn. While the mobile app might appear to be more beneficial to visitors, Zahn believes it’s the locals who might just benefit from it a bit more at least during these times of change and uncertainty. “We want visitors. Obviously in the safest way possible, we want them to come and keep their distance and wear masks but we also want our locals to be able to get out and explore too and I think this is a way – everybody is kind of desperately wanting to know what restaurants are open, where can I go to eat so this is a one stop shop where they can find out ‘hey, this dining room is open, maybe we should go here tonight to support a local business,’” said Zahn. Zahn says the new Visit Seguin interactive guide and companion mobile app will also note cancellations and other important information that could help turn a visit to Seguin into one of the best experiences ever. “I mean the best parts about it are that you can kind of make it to exactly what you want your trip to be. You can pick everything you want and then map it out and tell it to go and it will give you step by step directions so that is kind of one of the really cool features and then also with everything, it is a work in progress so as far as our businesses go, we want to be a partner and we want to make sure that everything is accurate so if a business sees that ‘hey, our hours are wrong’ or something like that, we absolutely want people to let us know so we can fix that as soon as possible. They can call us here at the visitors center and we can get that changed,” said Zahn. Individuals can create their trip at visitseguin.com. Visitors can also save their itineraries by using the Visit Seguin, TX mobile app for iOS and Android. Those wishing to get started are asked to search for “Visit Seguin, TX” on the Apple App Store or Google Play.

In-car parade to be hosted in Seguin this Fourth of July By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- The city's Biggest Small Town Fourth of July in Texas is still cancelled, but one local resident wants to make sure that America's freedoms are still being celebrated Although Joel Smith's initial application was denied by the city of Seguin, the in-car only parade, was given the green light after much compromise from both parties. The motor-vehicle procession is set for Saturday evening, with the parade route beginning at Seguin's HEB and ending at the Seguin Coliseum. Smith submitted the application on behalf of Toe Dropping! Media, which he describes as a non-profit organization. Smith says the parade is not looking for spectators, instead it's giving folks the opportunity to show their patriotic spirit this Fourth of July holiday. "There's one basic restriction and that is everybody must remain in their vehicles. So, this parade is about being a part of the parade. Not so much about going to line up on the route and watch and

observe. But for really the first time, anybody in the first hundred line -- once you get 100 people, I have to get special permission outside of that -- but the first 100 people to line up, are your parade. Those are your patriots. Those are your business owners. Those are your proud business owners. Those are your proud people in town that are going to come show and make face and fly their flags and play their music and be as loud as they possibly can with as many people in their vehicle as possible. The idea is to create the parade as loud as possible and if social distancing is the guideline, then keep everybody in your vehicles because (then) you are guaranteed (to be) six feet apart," said Smith. Seguin City Manager Steve Parker says while the initial plan submitted was more for a rally or some sort of a combination of vehicles and people walking, he knew that the city, with the locally increasing COVID-19 cases, could not afford such a risk, and did not want to send the wrong message to the local health community and to health professionals. He says had it been any other time, the city would

have fully supported the effort, but initially he had to say no. However, after sitting down together, the two sides came to the compromise that would allow the in-car parade to proceed. "I go, if ya'll could stay in your vehicles, we would be glad to provide a police escort to get you through the lights and we'd drive you from HEB down to the Coliseum in a parade fashion. Ya'll could line your cars up -three or four people in the cars as long as they are in the cars because most of them are going to be family members and so forth that are associated with this. Our goal was just not to have this big group gathering in downtown and try to do some of those things and so we just asked him for that and he kind of said, 'oh, man, I get it with the numbers and the risk. It's not what we want and he obliged," said Parker. Parker says the Seguin City Council last week unanimously approved the cancellation of all of the city's Fourth of July weekend activities, including the fireworks show and the parade. He says that was a difficult decision, but one that the council

felt like it had to make based on the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the community. Parker says it was not an attempt to deny anyone their freedoms on Independence Day. He says the same thing was true of his initial decision to deny the request made by Smith. "From my experience here, this is not a community by any means that it wants to ever infringe on anybody's personal freedoms, but it is a community that will step up and do the right thing when it is a serious issue and people's lives could be in jeopardy. It's a sad situation all the way around, but the hospital is experiencing a surge and we are trying to mitigate that," said Parker. Smith again stresses that this is not an event for spectators, and that those participating in the parade need to stay in their vehicles as they ride in the event. The event, which has been dubbed the Guadalupe County Independence Day Parade, gets underway at 6 p.m. Saturday. Those wishing to enter a vehicle in the parade, are asked to text Smith at 210-409-7990.

Bill M. Lowe

Mr. Bill M. Lowe made his final passing home to rest with the Lord in eternal life, high up on that hill with his wife on June 21, 2020. He was born in New Castle, Texas on June 28, 1929 to Aylene (Stringer) and Charles Lowe. Bill played football for several colleges where he would meet the love of his life, Norabel Richards. They would be married for 58 wonderful years. He continued to play football for the United States Army and would end his career after playing Pro-Canadian football for three years. Returning to Texas at the request of his wife and for the birth of their son, Bill found a job as a repo man, until he was recruited by Luby’s Cafeterias. He was the youngest to become first manager of his own cafeteria. That is when he and his family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. He and Nora adopted a little girl. Bill went on to become a successful entrepreneur with many different businesses, ranging from real estate and oil, to trade schools, telecommunications and automotive dealerships including Seguin Chevrolet. He was also a silent investor for several different institutions, one being the birth of American Bank. Over the years Bill has won many awards, sat on countless committees and board of directors. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Bill was a loyal and generous family man, not only to his immediate family, but to his extended family and friends as well. He was a jovial man with a great sense of humor, and a great eye for business, which made him loved and respected by the people who knew him, worked for him and the people who met him. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and lived as he believed, through Christ. Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife Nora, his son, Larry and his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Kay Lowe; granddaughter, Casey Diane Lowe; greatgranddaughter, Justice Todd; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, as well as great-great-nephews and nieces. We all loved him and will miss him dearly. A note of gratitude is extended to Bill Lowe’s personal safety companions of several years. Due to Covid-19 restrictions private graveside services and interment will be held on

Fauci Warns U.S. Could Reach 100K Coronavirus Cases A Day

Surgeon General Presses For Mask Usage In Public

MIT Study Says Actual Virus Infections Much Higher

Bill Signed Forcing FL Minors To Have Parental Consent Before Abortion

(Washington, DC) -- The nation's top expert on infectious diseases says if states don't contain the spread of the coronavirus, he won't be surprised to see as many as 100thousand new cases a day. Dr. Anthony Fauci [[ FOW-chee ]] said it could get very bad. The nation is currently adding 40-thousand new cases a day. Fauci and other top health officials testified before a Senate committee on Tuesday as senators urged the officials to bring to them a plan for distributing a vaccine once one is approved. Fauci said it will take a lot of boots on the ground to help overcome skepticism, especially in minority communities that he said haven't always been treated fairly.

(Cambridge, MA) -- A new study indicates the true number of coronavirus cases in the world may actually be 12 times higher than the official count. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology study also says the actual number of virus deaths worldwide is likely 50 percent higher than what is being reported. The MIT study concludes so many cases have gone unreported because the carrier had no symptoms. The researchers contend there have been 88 million people infected with the virus across the globe, with over 600 thousand deaths.

(Washington, DC) -- The Surgeon General is pressing Americans to put on a mask while they're in public. Speaking with the White House coronavirus task force, Jerome Adams explained wearing a face covering is "not a suppression of your freedom." He argued it is actually "a vehicle to achieve our goals." Adams also said it adds to Americans' freedom by allowing states to open up more businesses. The Surgeon General pointed to younger Americans so they can have proms or play sports. His comments come as several states see spikes in coronavirus cases.

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Minors in Florida now need permission from a parent before getting an abortion. Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill requiring anybody under the age of 18 to have parental consent. Doctors would not be allowed to perform the procedure without a notarized letter from the patient's parent or guardian. Doctors who don't follow through could be punished with third-degree felonies. The new law goes into effect Wednesday. Planned Parenthood of Florida argued the move makes the Sunshine State "a more dangerous place for young people."
