(Seguin) -- Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez is inviting you over for lunch today.

Today's Lunch & Learn session will focus on school finance. He says a variety of other topics are already on the menu for the rest of the school year.

Sean Hoffmann, the executive director of communications for the Seguin ISD, says Dr. Gutierrez today will be launching the first of several Lunch & Learn sessions for parents and community members. He says it's just another way for the district to engage with the families that it serves.

MIRACULOUS PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it dear Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your father sees it, then in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favor will be granted. Never known to fail A.T.M

"Over the past several years, the Seguin ISD has attempted to increase our community engagement and parental engagement and over the years, we've had events in the evening, the State of the District events and various type of evening events to try to get parents and community out to learn more about the school district and how it operates and Dr. Gutierrez established a series of Lunch & Learns for the 2019-2020 school year. The Lunch & Learns will be held for the next several months and

"Then on Nov. 19, we will provide a bond update on that Lunch & Learn. On, Jan. 9, we will have a Career and Technical Education better known as CTE update to show parents and community what Seguin High School has to offer with our CTE programs and then on Feb. 13, we will have Accountability 101 which is basically a review of the state accountability system for school districts. Again, these are open to the community. They are free and just an opportunity for kind of a casual presentation to learn more about what Seguin ISD is doing for the students in our community," said Hoffmann. they can come in. Matadors pursue third straight district win vs. improved Rebels, Thursday game to air on KWED (Austin) - Seguin looks to maintain its share of first place in the District 12-5A-Division I football standings Thursday with a road win over Austin-Travis at Burger Stadium. The Matadors are 2-0 in district play, 2-3 overall in head coach Travis Bush's fourth season after blasting Austin-Crockett for a 50-0 Homecoming win last Friday. Austin-Travis (1-4, 1-1) started Joe Frank Martinez's sixth season with four straight losses to push the program's overall losing streak to 20 games, but the Rebels ended that slide last week with a 43-0 win over Austin-Navarro. Travis quarterback Steven Lopez went 8-13 through the air for 136 yards while running for 67 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries against the Vikings. Running-back Darian McFerrin carried the ball 16 times for 117 yards and three scores, and was also Lopez's top receiver with 47 yards on four catches. Seguin has dominated its recent series with Travis, winning Bush's head coaching debut 61-21 in 2016, the 2017 season opener 74-6, and last year's district meeting 74-3. "They're a team that's steadily getting better, and you'll see they look like a different squad," Bush said. "They've got a different caliber athlete back there and running-back and quarterback experience, and they're doing a good job. Putting up the numbers they did against (Austin) Navarro last week, they're going to be confident, and they're going to be excited to see if they can do that again." The Rebels will have their hands full with a Seguin offense averaging 37 points and 423 total yards per game.

Tyson Coleman (25), Desvonn Smith (13), Martin Rivera (32), Chanse Hernandez (35) and the rest of the Seguin defense have only allowed one touchdown through eight quarters of District 12-5ADivision I play. Photo by Andie Rangel. Senior quarterback Jhalen Mickles (67 percent passing, 507 yds., 4 TD, 0 Int.) threw for 236 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns in his return to the lineup last Friday after leaving the Week 3 loss to Central Catholic at halftime with an injury. Junior running-back Marques Washington enters Thursday with 715 rushing yards, a 7.7 per carry average, and 10 touchdowns. Dravan McKnight (23 rec., 363 yds, 4 TD) and Clark Ullrich (21 rec., 238 yds., 3 TD) continue to pace the receivers, while Tristan Moreno showed that he's an emerging vertical threat with four

catches for 85 yards and a score against Crockett. The Matador defense has only allowed one touchdown in the last eight quarters. Statistical leaders on that side of the ball include linebacker John Michael Mata (57 tackles, 1 Int.), and defensive end Ian Box (12 TFL, 3 sacks). Thursday's kickoff at Burger Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will air live on KWED 1580-AM and Seguintoday.com, with pre-game coverage at 7:00.

Vital Statistics Once they met, their lives were inextricably entwined, with each supporting the other through numerous fellowships, career changes, and cross-country moves. The couple moved to Washington D.C. in 2010 when Adrian began as a Knauss Fellow with the National Science Foundation in the Office of Polar Programs. It was then that Andrew began to transition from IT work to expand his photography skills and begin his career as a professional photographer. They returned to Texas, settling in Taylor while Adrian completed her Ph.D. dissertation, and Andrew joined AzulOx Visuals as a partner and principal photographer. His love for photography and teaching others to appreciate and capture the natural world around them blossomed. In particular, Andrew’s self-taught photography skills and acumen led him to become an expert in photographing the night sky. During this time, Andrew also partnered to form Minerva Work Solutions, where he put his skills and passions to use to champion the strategic application of scientific principles to achieve organizational and team success for non-profits and other worthwhile causes. Adrian completed her Ph.D. at George Mason University in Environmental Science and Public Policy in 2017, and the couple soon moved to San Diego where she was a PostDoctoral Scholar at UC Santa Cruz Institute of Marine Sciences with the NOAA Antarctic Ecosystem Research Division at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center in La Jolla, California.

Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Fritz

Andrew Aaron Fritz Andrew Aaron Fritz, age 40 of Sacramento, California, and formerly of Taylor and Seguin, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2019, along with his wife Adrian Danielle Dahood-Fritz. Andrew was born on Oct.6, 1978 in Austin, Texas, to Linda (Johns) Fritz and Atlee Fritz. Andrew grew up in Seguin. He had many interests to which he gave his passion and energy. He was a lifelong animal lover. His love of the outdoors was fostered by his years in the Boy Scouts where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout at age 16. During his early years, he also became involved in Tae Kwon Do, and competed in the National Junior Olympics, and computer science and band during high school. When he was 10 the family bought their first computer, and another passion was born. Andrew graduated from Seguin High School in 1996, and then attended Texas Lutheran University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from TLU in 2000 with a BS in computer Science and a BA in Mathematics. It was at TLU that his passion for scuba diving was born. This led him to cave dive in places such as Florida and Cozumel, and also in the South Pacific at Truk Lagoon into sunken Japanese WWII ships. Andrew also discovered Toyota Supras during this time, which enticed him toward another hobby, race car building and racing, and mechanics. Andrew began his career as a software engineer in Austin, TX., and eventually moved to Houston to enroll in graduate school at the University of Houston where he worked in the Physics department. In 2005 he received his Master of Science from University of Houston where he specialized in information security solutions. Andrew met his wife, Adrian, while taking swing dance lessons in Houston in 2008. They were married January 2, 2010 in Galveston.

Adrian and Andrew enjoyed exploring California and the Pacific coast together, and hosting friends and family to enjoy their new surroundings as well. It was in San Diego that Andrew began to more broadly explore the American West, and to expand his photography skill and workshop offerings, making multiple crosscountry trips in his truck to continue teaching photography in Austin. Andrew and Adrian moved to Sacramento in April of this year, where Adrian began her position with the State of California as the Senior Scientist/Policy Advisor for the Ocean Protection Council working with the State’s Marine Protected Areas program. Andrew was expanding his workshop offerings, with teaching/learning excursions planned for the coming months across the US and the world. Andrew was a craftsman, woodworker, conservationist, artist, and scholar. Whatever Andrew set his mind to, he did so with a passion seldom seen. Andrew and Adrian spent their lives together working to hone their skills and knowledge to mentor, teach, and care for others, and to apply their collective acumen and passion to improve the world around them for future generations. They will be deeply missed. Andrew and Adrian left this world together doing something they both loved – appreciating and documenting the natural world around them. Andrew is preceded in death by his grandparents Atlee and Ruby Fritz and Alvis and Gettys Johns, and his beloved cats D.C. and Big Boy. He is survived by his parents, Atlee and Linda Fritz of Seguin, and his sister, Angela Elizabeth Fritz of Rosenberg, TX., along with cats Inara and Takhira, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a myriad of friends, students, and colleagues from across the nation and world. A celebration of life service honoring Andrew and Adrian will be held on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Auditorium in the Weston Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Texas Lutheran University, 510 Fleming Dr., Seguin, Texas, 78155. A reception will follow in the Christian Life Center (CLC) at First United Methodist Church, 710 N. Austin, Seguin, Texas, 78155. Private interment will follow at a later date at San Geronimo Cemetery.

Adrian D. DahoodFritz, PhD Adrian D. Dahood-Fritz, PhD was born in 1979 in New Jersey and grew up in Princeton Junction. At an early age she developed an interest in marine mammals. She graduated in 1997 from Choate Rosemary Hall and coxed a 4man boat to win a Youth Invitational Championship title in Cincinnati in 1997 for Choate; she continued her education at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated 4 years later with a BS in Zoology and a second BS in Fisheries Science. She went on to pursue a master’s degree in wildlife and fisheries at Texas A & M awarded in 2009 and earned her PhD in 2017 from George Mason University. Along the way, Adrian developed science skills focused on marine mammals and habitats at organizations that included the National Science Foundation. She studied dusky dolphins in Kaikoura, New Zealand for her Master’s and made seven trips to Antarctica including an extended winter voyage to gather information on krill and other small sea creatures at the bottom of the food chain. Concurrently, she developed an interest in policies related to worldwide regulation of fisheries and Polar habitats that resulted in her PhD being awarded by George Mason University in December 2017. She was actively interested in all things related to Antarctica including research, Polar policies and habitats. Sharing of knowledge, time and energy as well as scientific curiosity were hallmarks of Adrian’s entire life. Adrian met Andrew Fritz while in Texas and the couple married in 2010 in Galveston. They had separately developed interests in photography, swing dancing, cooking and teaching which interests continued and grew during their marriage. She and her husband perished in a tragic fire that claimed the lives of 34 individuals on a scuba diving trip to the Channel Islands in 2019. Adrian is survived by her father, Michael Dahood, and her brother M. Eliot Dahood. DC Reveals Record High Rates of STDs in 2018 (Washington, DC) -- The Center for Disease Control is revealing sexually transmitted diseases reached a record high in 2018. The CDC saw a record high of two-point-five million cases, an increase of 30percent since 2013. Director of the STD Division Dr. Gail Bolan says this is "a failure of the public health system" and they have the tools to prevent it. CDC officials believes the rise is due in part from cuts to STD programs and decreased condom use among young people and members of the LGBTQ community.
