New AW Texas company on IH 10 being called "new frontier of the South Central Texas region" By Cindy AguirreHerrera

(Cibolo) -- The door destined to trigger growth and development on Guadalupe County's west end along Interstate 10 has been blown wide open and elected officials can't help but prepare for what is next. Representatives from AW Texas, alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott, city of Cibolo elected officials and partners officially broke ground Monday morning on the AW Texas 159 acre automatic transmission plant in Cibolo. AW Texas is a subsidiary of Japan's Aisin AW Co. and a leading manufacturer of transmissions around the world. The plant, announced earlier this fall, will be the third United States’ transmission plant for the Aisin Group. The plant will bring approximately 900 new jobs to the area over the next five years. Judy Cope, Guadalupe County Commissioner Pct. 4, says the county couldn't be happier about being home to this new $400 million high-tech manufacturing plant. The plant, which lies in Cope's precinct, will be built immediately off of Interstate 10,

right next door to the San Antonio Raceway located on Santa Clara Road in Marion. "I think that the west end, of course, has always been one of the fastest growing parts of the county. However, they are pretty much grown to their limits so it's going to have to come our way and this is the beginning right here of I think a big industrial break through that we'll be seeing all throughout the county -- new jobs, better wages -- something that is not going to come and go -- that we will have here for years and years to come so our kids and grandkids can stay right here if they want to and be close to family and that's always been one of my goals when I ran for office was to make sure that our kids and grandkids could stay close to their families and have the means to do it. So, I think this is wonderful. Of course, I always would rather not lose the farmland but it's being put to good use so we really are encouraged by this," said Cope. See NEW FRONTIER, page 2

Voters to cast their ballots today in Nov. 5 General Election

Constitutional amendments, Cibolo, Schertz races among the ballot items By Cindy AguirreHerrera

(Seguin) -- Today is election day. Voters will be deciding on several Constitutional Amendments along with several contested races in Guadalupe County.

“We’ll get those little devils!”

MIRACULOUS PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it dear Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your father sees it, then in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favor will be granted. Never known to fail I.S.G.

Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Lisa Hayes says any registered voter in Guadalupe County can cast a ballot at any one of the 34 polling locations. She says voting is as easy as see a sign, pull in and cast your vote. "Voters in Guadalupe County will

have 10 Constitutional Amendments to vote on and all of Guadalupe County voters should see those 10 Constitutional Amendments on their ballot. Then there are several local jurisdictions that also have local races on the ballot such as mayor or city council and those will be the cities of Cibolo and the city of Schertz, Green Valley Special Utility District has some candidates on the ballot. Prairie Lea ISD has some candidates on the ballot and a bond so the voters on the east side of the county won't see much besides the Constitutional Amendments on their ballot. But,

Jacob Sanders Tree Service (830) 857.4188

Hayes says twice the voters of Guadalupe County came out to

cast their ballots early for this Nov. 5 election. Hayes says she hopes that increase indicates an even stronger turnout for today.

"Actually, the turnout was heavier than we were expecting. We had almost twice the voters vote in this 2019 Constitutional Amendment as we did in the 2017 Constitutional Amendment which is exciting and yes, we do have more registered voters now but there is still an increased turnout. We saw a higher mail ballot return rate so we actually had a little over seven percent of our population vote early so it will be

really interesting to see what happens on election day. I hope the voters continue to come out. We want to see them take advantage of this opportunity we have to vote," said Hayes. Election officials say fewer voters generally turn out for constitutional amendment elections than for those with gubernatorial or presidential elections. Polls will be open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sample ballots are available at www.co.guadalupe.tx.us/elections.

New high tech manufacturing plant to bring 900 new jobs, operation to begin in 2021 NEW FRONTIER continued from page 1 Commissioner Jim Wolverton, Pct. 3, has always been a strong voice for growth and development on the county's west end. Wolverton says he believes the new plant will help springboard even more activity increasing the benefits for all corners of Guadalupe County. "For years, I've been telling people as soon as we get somebody on I-10, we are going to just look like New Braunfels, San Marcos and San Antonio because that is virtually the new frontier for Guadalupe County and now that we have an anchor of AW Texas, I see nothing but blue skies from now on for Guadalupe County and the state of Texas. We couldn't have asked for anything better," said Wolverton. Even though Cibolo is getting the tax base for the AW Texas plant, Marion Mayor Victor Contreras says he can't help but be ready for the residual tax base that will hopefully pour into his community. He says with Marion nestled right next door to surrounding properties, the whole area stands to benefit. "I think it's going to help the cities around us but also] our city with maybe more commercial growth. I'm hoping on that because people are going to have to have a place to go eat, go shop and things like that and its going to spur some residential growth because the 900 jobs are not just going to go Cibolo and Seguin -- New Berlin is putting in a new subdivision maybe

we definitely want the voters to come out and vote. This is a very important election. This is the chance to have your voice heard and to express your opinion on the items on the ballot and if a voter doesn't see someone they are expecting to see, we absolutely would like them to raise their hand and let the poll worker know before they cast their ballot because once they cast their ballot, we cant' check to see to make sure that everything is the way that it should be," said Hayes.

Marion in our growth plan, we can get some of those houses sold," said Contreras. Governor Abbott also spoke about the plant's estimated $40 billion economic impact on the region. He says when the city of Cibolo and Guadalupe County win, then the whole state of Texas wins."This is a team effort. Nothing likes this just happens by chance. It happens because everybody coming together, working together, collaborating together. This is something that puts Guadalupe County and Cibolo on the map and what you will see in the coming years and coming decades is this was a beginning of a chapter that will lead to chapter after chapter of the next great book about this entire region. You will be able to look back and know that you were part of a process from the very beginning. Where you got to see the beginning of the build out of Guadalupe County and Cibolo . You'll look back and tell your kids and tell your grandkids, I was there the day the ground was broken on the project that led to all this massive development around the entire region. This is a day in the record books for Cibolo, Texas," said Abbott. Production of automatic transmission at the plant is scheduled to begin September 2021. The project is a result of collaborative efforts among the city of Cibolo, Guadalupe County, Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC), the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation and the state of Texas.

Texas Lutheran moves past Belhaven 34-14, sets up showdown in Belton with UMHB (Seguin) - Texas Lutheran posted a 3414 conference home win Saturday over Belhaven (Miss.), moved to 7-0 in the American Southwest Conference, and set up a first-place showdown next Saturday in Belton, Texas against defending national champion University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Longoria finished the game with six total tackles, a pass break-up, and two quarterback hurries. TLU as a whole had 10.0 tackles for 38 yards in losses and four sacks for 19 yards in losses. Adairius Norwood and Derek Dunn also had sacks. "(Belhaven quarterback Hunter McEachern) made some big plays for them," said Gustafson. "He is a quality football player. With our defense, I don't think he ever really felt comfortable back there. And because of those pressures, a lot of those times we didn't get a sack, but we got pressure, and we forced the ball out of the quarterback's hand quicker than he wanted to throw it."

TLU, with an overall record of 7-1 and the undefeated conference mark, will play for the outright lead in the ASC next week at Crusader Stadium. The winner of the game will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship playoffs. The Cru defeated Louisiana College 820 in Pineville, La. on Saturday and improved to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the ASC. UMHB is ranked No. 1 in the AFCA poll and No. 2 in the D3football.com poll. TLU is not ranked but sits just outside the Top 25 in both the d3football.com poll and the AFCA poll. Saturday at Bulldog Stadium, TLU fell behind 7-0 early to Belhaven but then scored on its next three possessions to take a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bulldog sophomore quarterback Wade Freeman (Richmond/Bush) hit CJ Romero (Odem/Odem) on a pair of touchdown passes. Freeman and Romero first hooked up on a 57-yard scoring play at the 10:34 mark of the first quarter. Their second TD connection, a 49-yarder, came with 45 seconds to play in the quarter.

C.J. Romero pulls in a 49-yard touchdown reception during the first quarter of TLU's home win over Belhaven on Saturday. Photo by Dustin Wyatt. Christopher Monroe (College Station/College Station). The Monroe score ended a seven-play, 88-yard drive at the 6:41 mark of the second quarter. After Belhaven scored a touchdown on the last play of the first half, to cut the TLU lead to 27-14, the two teams played a scoreless third quarter. "I think we came out ready to play, and then we got up on them and lost our focus," said Carl Gustafson, TLU's thirdyear head coach. "I'm not sure if we were as focused on them as we should have been to finish the game. We've got to learn from that."

"Obviously, we have a good run game," said Romero, a senior. "When they want to man us up across the board, it is kind of disrespectful in a way because we have some guys that can go on the outside. We just have to take advantage of that, and that is what we want to do every time they challenge us." Between those Freeman-to-Romero connections, Ian Leslie scored on a one-yard run that capped a six-play, 53-yard drive.

"We made some critical mistakes that we cannot make next week. But the thing about this football team is that they have always learned and used adversity to make themselves better. As coaches we want them to play their best game every week. Was this our best game? No. But we will settle for our best game next week." The Bulldogs committed 12 penalties for 98 yards against Belhaven.

The Bulldogs increased the lead to 27-7 with a one-yard scoring run from

In the fourth quarter, TLU put the game away with a four-play, 17-yard scoring

drive that came after a Keyshawn Holman interception. Holman picked off the pass at the Belhaven 36 and returned it to the Belhaven 17. Four rushing plays later, TLU was back in the endzone and in possession of a 3414 lead with 5:56 remaining in the game. Austin Mathews (Houston/Clear Creek) carried the ball three times on the final scoring drive and collected the touchdown on a four-yard run. Next Saturday, TLU will be looking for its first win ever in Belton against UMHB. TLU's only win over the Crusaders came in 1999, in Seguin's Matador Stadium. The Bulldogs are 120 all-time against UMHB. In a 2014 first round NCAA playoff game, UMHB defeated TLU 27-20. The Cru grabbed a 47-14 victory last season in Seguin. "Our mindset is just believe," said Manny Longoria, TLU's senior defensive end. "Believe that we can. We have believed this entire season. No one else believes in us besides the people in that locker room and the coaching staff. So

we are going to go and get after it this week (in practice), and take it one day at a time." Longoria, facing constant double teams this entire year and against Belhaven, had two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss Saturday against the Blazers. Already the school's DIII-era career sacks leader, with 24.5, Longoria passed Darian Candler for the TLU DIII-era tackles for loss record. Longoria's 3.5 tackles for loss against Belhaven put him at 45.0 for his career. Candler ended his four-year career with 44.0. Longoria hit the tackles for loss record in his 33rd career game at TLU. "First, I credit it all to God, and I want to thank my teammates for making plays," said Longoria. "They allowed me to go out and make plays because teams didn't just have to worry about me but worry about all three of us (Longoria and fellow defensive linemen Brandon Bennett, and Jackson Worley) now. They have to pick and choose their battles, and today they chose to block Brandon and Worley, so I was able to get back and cause a little havoc."

"I can't speak enough about the pressure that we got, many times with just three rushing. Keeping their quarterback out of his comfort zone was critical for us." McEeachern threw for 212 yards with 20 completions on 37 attempts. He had two TD passes and two interceptions. Holman and Kedrick Ward each had picks. Ward also had a fumble recovery for 16 yards in the fourth quarter. Belhaven rushed for only 67 yards on 29 carries. Sam Guzman (Buda/Hays) led TLU with 10 total tackles. Jackson Worley and Daniel Enriquez (Edinburg/Vela) recorded nine and eight tackles, respectively. Worley had 2.5 tackles for loss, Enriquez forced a fumble and had two pass break-ups. TLU ran the ball 49 times and gained 176 on the ground. Monroe produced 92 yards on 14 carries, and Mathews added 52 on 10 carries. Freeman was 9-for-17 for 203 yards, two touchdowns passing and an interception. The interception thrown was his first of the season. Freeman now has 13 touchdowns to go along with the lone interception. "We kept pounding," said Gustafson of his team's offense. "We kept grinding. Sometimes I thought they had 35 guys in the box. They had us outnumbered a few times, but our guys fought through it. We may enjoy this for about 12 hours, and then we are going to start getting ready for the next one."

CDC Reports One Death From Salmonella Outbreak

Lena Dunham Reveals She Suffers From Ehler-Danlos Syndrome

(Undated) -- The CDC says at least one person has died in a salmonella outbreak linked to ground beef. The health agency says there have been ten salmonella infections across six states. Eight of those case required hospitalization and one person in California has died. Lab tests have shown that ground beef is the likely source of this outbreak, though they haven't identified a common supplier. The CDC reminds people that they should always thoroughly cook ground beef to an internal temperature of 160-degrees.

(Undated) -- Actress Lena Dunham is revealing that she suffers from a chronic disease that affects the skin and joints. She responded to a paparazzi picture that showed her using a cane to say that she's dealing with Ehler-Danlos syndrome. The 33-year-old said that a flare up of the disease means she needs support from more than just her friends. People with Ehler-Danlos can have a wide range of symptoms from fragile skin to abnormalities in the joints. Singer Sia recently revealed that she also has the disease.

Olivia Newton-John Grease Outfits Sells For $405K

Study Ties Stress Disorders To Life-Threatening Infections

(Los Angeles, CA) -- An outfit Olivia Newton-John wore in the film "Grease" is selling for nearly a half-million-dollars. The tight black pants and leather jacket were auctioned off for 405-thousand-dollars this weekend. Newton-John's character Sandy in the 1978 musical donned the outfit for her "You're the One That I Want" duet with John Travolta. The outfit was part of about 500 items that raised over two-million-dollars for the actress's cancer treatment center in Australia. The 71-year-old is battling breast cancer for a third time since being first diagnosed in 1992.

(Stockholm) -- A new study says people with stress disorders are at greater risk for life-threatening infections. Swedish researchers studied data on over 140-thousand people with post-traumatic stress disorder and other stress-related conditions. They also studied the siblings who didn't have a stress disorder, and after a follow-up of eight years, found the annual incidence of life-threatening infections was higher in people with stress disorders. The lead author of the study said prolonged emotional stress causes "alterations in multiple bodily functions" through the release of stress hormones.
