Library invites families over for Movie Matinee By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- The Seguin Public Library is helping families enjoy their Thanksgiving holiday. Erica Reyes, of the public library, says the library today is inviting the community over for its Monday Movie Matinee featuring the film "FreeBirds." "It's a Thanksgiving themed movie so if you guys haven't seen it -- I know it's not in theaters and it hasn't been in awhile -- It's a good family friendly movie and everyone of all ages are welcome to come," said Reyes.

MIRACULOUS PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it dear Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your father sees it, then in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favor will be granted. Never known to fail I.S.G.

Reyes says with this week being a week off from school for most kids, the library thought it would be a perfect time to invite them over for some fun and relaxation. "We understand that both school districts are out so to give families something to do during the holidays, we are offering the movie matinee. It is a free event. We are going to have light snacks, a popcorn bar and drinks. We are going to have little coloring pages in the back for kids who can't stay focused throughout the whole movie so there's going to be activities there for them," said Reyes. The free movie begins today at 1 p.m. The library on Tuesday will also host a Mario Kart Tournament beginning at 4:30 p.m. The tournament is part of the regular Teen Tuesday events held at the local library.

the elderly, homebound, needy and just anyone wishing for a meal. Gloria Reyna, the director of religious education at OLG, says although residents can come by on Wednesday and enjoy the meal in the church parish hall, the group by the end of today is also needing to secure the number of delivered plates for all those who need them.
said Reyna.
"We have to then figure out what direction we are going to be taking and we have to get that mapped out for the ones who are going to deliver and they can call between eight and 12 (noon) and 1 to about 6 o'clock,"
Again the deadline to ensure a plate delivery is today. Reyna says even if you don't need a plate, you just might know someone who does.

Business advocates encourage spending in Seguin this holiday season SHOP SMALL, continued from page 1 Kramm says it's also important to remember that the businesses that seek your support are the same ones that carry their name on the back of a Little League Shirt or who have donated to the many fundraisers in town. "So these local businesses that we try to promote especially during this time of year to shop are the ones that are definitely supportive of our local civic organizations, providing gift cards to the Little League games or they are providing sponsorships for Main Street events and things like that so definitely, it's important that these businesses are in our community because they are the ones that go above and beyond to support our community as well," said Kramm. Mary Ann Smith, of the Seguin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, says it's important for customers to always think Seguin first. She says folks are often surprised by what they thought they couldn't find in town. "We want people to know what's available in this town because a lot
of times when they think of small towns, they think that we don't have things available for the surrounding areas and before they go to the big cities, we want people to know that we have good food, good things, good places to visit and we have a lot of small businesses that are growing and taking their chance with this little town. They are bringing beautiful stuff to make this little town bigger or unique. I think that if people come, and give us a chance, they will like it. We have a lot of people that come from other towns to taste our food and our culinary art here in Seguin is really good. Instead of looking online, we can always go to the stores and see if they have it available and that money really does make a difference in this little town," said Smith. Kendy Gravett, of the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce, says in the end, supporting local business is often more than just about keeping the dollars here in town. "Most of the shop owners here, the boutiques and the restaurants and places to shop are
owned by community members. So, we are not only helping our economic base by spending our money here and keeping our tax dollars here but we are also helping to improve the prosperity of our own community members and therefore, anytime that you help one person, you are helping the full community. It's a group effort," said Gravett. According to Independent We Stand, shopping local independent businesses does in fact help to keep more money in a community. The group says for every $100 spent at locally owned businesses, $68 will stay in the community. However, that same $100 spent at a national chain only leaves $43 behind in a community. And as for shopping online, Independent We Stand says almost none of your money stays in the community. This Saturday also marks "Shop Small Saturday." The day after Black Friday is designed to encourage people to spend their money in their own communities.

Marion football season ends in area playoff loss to Vanderbilt-Industrial (Karnes City) - Vanderbilt-Industrial eliminated Marion from the UIL football playoffs 41-7 Friday evening in the 3A Division I area bracket of Region IV at Karnes City's Poss Johnson Field. The Bulldogs didn't score until Jacob Devora pulled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Zach Goodwin with 1:29 left in the game. Industrial used a 26-yard touchdown pass from Karston Wimberly to Matthew Davis and a two-yard run by Wimberly to build a 13-0 lead by the 9:43 mark of the second quarter. The Cobras recovered a Marion fumble later in the period, and Kaleb Figirova broke loose for a 29-yard touchdown run two plays later to make it 20-0 with 6:35 left in the half. Marion came up short on multiple scoring opportunities in the first half. Hutch Rabenaldt intercepted a Wimberly pass and returned it to the Marion 23, but the Bulldogs eventually turned the ball over on downs. Marion drove to the one-yard line late in the second quarter and came away with no points after three stuffed rushing attempts and an incomplete pass on fourth-andgoal. The Bulldogs forced the Cobras to punt from their own end zone
on the ensuing possession and got the ball back at the Industrial 28-yard line with 11 seconds left in the half. Goodwin lofted a perfect pass up the left sideline to Jayden Williams streaking into the end zone, but the ball dropped incomplete. Goodwin's second shot at the end zone on the final play of the half popped high in the air after an Industrial defender deflected it. Rabenaldt nearly coralled it for a touchdown, but a Cobra was there to break it up. Industrial added touchdown runs by Davis and Kael Estes to cap drives of 83 and 75 yards in the second half, and produced their final points on an interception return for a score Figirova. Marion head coach Ryne Miller credits Industrial for winning the line of scrimmage on critical downs. "They're well coached, and they're just disciplined, and they did a great job of lining up and just playing hard up front," Marion head coach Ryne Miller said. "We knew going into it that if we were going to have a chance to win this football game, that our offensive line and defensive line had to play well. They were big and physical up front, and I felt like we had some good opportunities, and we just kind of let them slip away, and that's the game
of football right there." Industrial finished with 286 rushing yards and 389 total yards. The Bulldogs totaled 347 yards, 310 through the air from Goodwin. Friday marked the final football game in a Marion uniform for seniors Goodwin, Devora, Rabenaldt, Jarrett Fennell, Cade Baumann, Ovelio Moreno, Liam Christenson, Jonathan Mabs, Karson Kelso, Corbin Flores, and Gabe Corona. "We've never had two years in Marion school history where they went back-to-back two round deep, so they started a tradition this year," Miller said. "That's something special for those guys, and they're going to go down in the Marion record book. We've got 12 dedicated seniors that love what they do, and we're going to miss them. I told them one thing - to always take advantage of opportunities, and we love you to death." After sharing the District 15-3A-Division I championship with Jourdanton and avancing to the second round of the playoffs, Marion's final 2019 record is 8-4.
Seguin boys drop home game to New Braunfels (Seguin) - Seguin suffered its first loss of the young basketball season Friday night in a 56-43 setback to New Braunfels at Goldie Harris Gym. The Unicorns jumped out to a 17-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and took a 29-16 cushion into halftime. The Matadors used a 16-9 run in the third period to draw within six, 38-32, heading into the final frame. New Braunfels won the fourth quarter 18-11 to pull away for the 13-point win.
Gerrit Twitero led three Matadors in double figures with 16 points. Christopher James and Joseph Vela each put in 10. Kaleb McCann, Tyson Coleman, and R.J. Acuna netted two points apiece, and Matthew Doege hit a free throw. Seguin (1-1) heads to Castroville on Monday for the first road game of the season in a 12:30 p.m. clash with Medina Valley.

CDC Updates Number Of Vaping Injury Cases
PA Governor Vetoes Abortion Measure
(Atlanta, GA) -- The number of lung injury cases associated with vaping continues to climb. The CDC says nearly 23-hundred cases have been reported as of Wednesday. Officials note the majority of the patients were male and most were under the age of 35. The number of deaths has also increased to 47 in more than two dozens states and Washington, D.C. Alaska is still the only state not to report any cases.
(Harrisburg, PA) -- Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is withholding his signature from an abortion bill. Wolf Thursday vetoed the measure that would've banned abortions if an unborn child received a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome. It would not apply to cases involving rape, incest or medical emergencies. In his veto message, the Democratic governor says the bill "is a restriction on women" and he doesn't know of any disability rights group that supports the bill.
Indiana Hospital Alerts Patients Of Possible Hepatitis, HIV Exposure (Goshen, IN) -- A Northern Indiana hospital is warning patients of possible exposure to Hepatitis and HIV. Nearly 12-hundred patients at Goshen [[ Go-shin ]] Health could've been infected with HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C during their surgeries between April and September. Hospital officials recently sent a letter to the patients saying one of their technicians failed to properly sterilize surgical tools. The hospital claims the risk of infection is extremely low and they apologize for falling below their own high standards. Affected patients are being offered free blood tests, but the waiting period for the results can take up to ten days. Goshen is in Elkhart County, about 30-miles away from South Bend.

Male Birth Control Injection Waiting For Approval (New Delhi, India) -- The world's first birth control injection for men is almost ready. Clinical trials just wrapped up and now the Indian Council of Medical Research is awaiting approval. Scientists say the product showed a 97-percent success rate with no side effects. They say it's reversible and can last up to 13 years. They hope the injection will become more popular than a vasectomy.
