To help celebrate the opening of the lot, Maddox says the Lions Club in partnership with the First Presbyterian Church will be hostingAChristmas Tree Festival this Saturday at the tree lot. Maddox says the group deeply appreciates the church's partnership in preserving a deeply rooted tradition in Seguin. "Traditionally for a longtime, we were doing our lot at Plaza Del Rey and a new management company there changed their policy on not allowing outside folks to come and take up parking spot areas and so the First Presbyterian Church was kind enough to come to our rescue and allow us to have our lot their at the church and what we are really sponsoring together is the Christmas Tree Festival which will be Nov. 30 from 10 o'clock in the morning to 1 o'clock and the church helps us out with that. The ladies of the church make cookies and stuff like that and help us out and so that's been a real nice partnership that we've appreciated there," said Maddox. See TREES, page 3

Yulfest tradition returns this Sunday to Seguin Coliseum By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- Get ready to shop till you drop at this year's Yulefest Arts and Crafts Show. The show, hosted by the Seguin Art League, returns this holiday season on Sunday at the Seguin Coliseum. Yulefest Chairman Karen Roberson, says the arts and crafts show is an unique opportunity for area artists and crafters to sell their work and to showcase their individual talents. She says it's been a long standing tradition and continues to draw in anywhere from 1,200 to 1,400 people.

"Right now, we have 78 vendors indoors and we will have about 28 vendors outdoors. The show has grown tremendously over the last two or three years. It seems like a lot more people are making handmade items and selling their wares and we have just grown tremendously and the community has really supported the show and the vendors have done really well," said Roberson. Businesses asking residents to spend dollars in Seguin this Saturday Special By Jasmyne Perry, Main Street and CVB Intern (Seguin) -- For the tenth year, the Saturday after Thanksgiving is being recognized as the American shopping holiday Small Business Saturday! How does one celebrate this holiday you may ask? Well that's easy, just shop small, locally owned independent businesses! As you know Seguin is a small town, and with small towns come small shops with big hearts. Seguin does not have an outlet mall or a giant shopping center but instead we have something better, small local shops owned by wonderful people. Some would call these “Mom and Pop” shops but no matter the name, the love is all the same. For a little background, Small Business Saturday was created and supported by American Express. This holiday was created to bring the holiday season to small local shops and encourage shopping small. When American Express first launched the holiday, it

Most of the vendors are from I would say within a 50 mile radius of Seguin but we do have some that come from about that distance. We have many many vendors that are repeat vendors but each year, we also have new items," said Roberson. 1,400 individuals and organizations signed up as Neighborhood Champions to rally and support their local communities with events and activities on Small Business Saturday - and that number continues to grow. (Cuero) - Navarro can book its second straight trip to the 4A Division II Region IV finals and third in the last four seasons Friday with a third-round playoff win over Sinton at Gobbler Stadium in Cuero. The Panthers are 12-0 in head coach Rod Blount's second season after winning the District 13-4A-Division II championship and laying waste to Crystal City 45-0 and Rio Hondo 42-13 in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Sinton's recent success has come with its ability to win shootouts. The Pirates' defense has allowed 30 or more points in three straight games, and at least 29 in the last four. Navarro's Slot-T attack hopes to continue that trend with an offensive unit boasting weekly averages of 42.3 points and 431.7 total yards (411.2 rushing, 9.3 per carry) per game. Senior fullback Euler Deleon has a resonable shot at a 2,000-yard rushing season. His totals through 12 games include 1,765 yards (10.9 per carry) and 24 touchdowns.

Doctors: Assange In Desperate Medical Condition

Lawsuit Filed Against Indiana Hospital Because Of Possible HIV Exposure

(London) -- Wikileaks founder Julian Assange could die in jail if he doesn't get help, according to a letter signed by more than 60 doctors. Assange has been in a British jail fighting extradition to the U.S. over the Wikileaks publication of classified material back in 2010. He spent years holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London before he was forcibly removed in April. The letter addressed to the British home secretary cites how Assange looked at an October hearing and a report this month from a U.N. expert on torture. The letter argues Assange needs "urgent expert medical assessment of both his physical and psychological state of health."

(Goshen, IN) -- An Indiana hospital will have to defend itself against a class-action lawsuit days after it admitted failing to sterilize surgical instruments. Goshen Health sent letters to nearly 12-hundred patients who had surgery between April and September telling them they could have been exposed to HIV or Hepatitis B or C. The hospital is offering free testing. Hospital officials blame a technician who apparently missed one step in a multi-step cleaning process, possibly contaminating surgical equipment.

CDC: Don't Eat Romaine Lettuce From Salinas, California

Dogs Could Bring African Swine Fever From China

(Washington, DC) -- The CDC is warning people not to eat romaine lettuce grown in Salinas [[ sa-LEEnas ]], California because of an E. coli outbreak. The health agency says you can check the label on romaine lettuce to learn where it was grown and if it isn't labeled with the growing region, don't eat it. The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating a multi-state outbreak of E. coli infections linked to romaine lettuce.

WORLD-CLASS WELLNESS Close to home.

(Undated) -- Dogs rescued from Chinese meat markets could be bringing African swine fever to the United States. Dogs are often saved from China and brought to the U.S. to be adopted as pets. Sometimes these are dogs that are being kept at meat markets near livestock in China because dogs are considered food animals there. Lisa Becton with the National Pork Board says "unfortunately, at these markets there are a lot of other species, like pigs, chickens and cows.
