By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- Downtown Seguin's Cocoa Sip 'N Stroll is near! On December 6th from 5:30-8:30 pm downtown Seguin will be turned into a winter wonderland. From pictures with Santa to wagon rides, and holiday treats to late night shopping; downtown Seguin will be kicking off the holiday season. Sip 'N Stroll is a favorite Seguin community event and grows each year due to the varieties of delicious homemade hot cocoas. This year will feature 39 different hot cocoas from downtown merchants, local nonprofits and other businesses. The 39 “Chocolatiers” will be set up throughout downtown from inside stores, on the sidewalks and within Central Park. No matter where you go downtown you are guaranteed to get a taste of the chocolaty goodness in your 2019 Sip 'n Stroll mug. Guests are encouraged to buy the official 2019 Sip 'n Stroll mug featuring the historic firehouse or bring an old Sip 'n Stroll mug as their ticket to taste the homemade cocoas. No matter the mug there will be plenty of cocoa from local stores to enjoy while you enjoy the holiday air and spirit all around.

Band. The success of the food and toy drive, however, wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the growing list of sponsors for the event. Many of the in-kind donations include food and drinks for the dozens who brave sometimes the chilliest of weather collecting for others.
Prior to the North Pole Stroll there will be the Holiday Stroll Jingle Bell Run that will start at 8:30 am. Check out https://www.athleteguild.com/running/seg uin-tx/2019-holiday-stroll-jingle-bell-run for registration information. “I am beyond excited for our 9th annual Sip 'N Stroll celebration this year”, says Kyle Kramm, Director of Seguin Main Street & CVB, “I myself will be sporting my Official 2019 Sip 'N Stroll mug and I am excited to try everyone's hot chocolates with my family. This tradition has turned into a holiday favorite in our community and we are hoping for another great turn out! Please come out and be a part of this growing community holiday tradition.”
Hot cocoa won't be the only thing at Sip 'N Stroll either. There will be a performance from the Star Steppers and Wee Steppers, a variety of food vendors, late night shopping, pictures with Santa, snow machines and much more! So if this is not one of your holiday traditions already come out and help us celebrate the holidays.

Navarro chases state semifinal berth in Alamodome rematch with district rival Wimberley, Friday game to air on KWED pick us apart. He's a great quarterback, they've got great coaches, and they're going to find things. It's difficult to beat somebody twice. A lot has changed for both teams the last six weeks, so it will be a good battle going back in."
(San Antonio) - Overconfidence can sometimes be a concern in a playoff rematch with an opponent you defeated handily in the regular season, but Navarro head coach Rod Blount doesn't anticipate that being an issue for his players in Friday's 4A Division II Region IV title game at the Alamodome.
Navarro looks to utilize its dominant offensive line of Brett Butler, Cole Booker, Jon Gilbert, Malachi DeLaTorre, and Cooper Syzdek to physicall overpower the Wimberley defense and open holes for the talented backfield trio of Euler Deleon, Johnny Alegria, and Jean "MoMo" Sims.
"This week, it really hasn't been a problem, because it's Wimberley," Blount said. "They know how it goes with Wimberley. You've got to be up no matter what." The Panthers (13-0) overcame an early 14-0 deficit to blast the Texans (10-3) 42-14 in the District 13-4A-Division II meeting between the teams at Erwin-Lee Field on Oct. 25. Wimberley went on to lose its regular season finale to Cuero 34-28 on Nov. 8, but has strung together three straight playoff wins since. The Texans outscored Poteet 49-35 in the bi-district round, routed Raymondville 63-35 in the area bracket, and stopped a late two-point conversion try by Rockport-Fulton to survive the regional semifinals 42-41. The Navarro and Wimberley defenses each went through effective dress rehearsals for Friday in the third round last week. The Panthers staved off Sinton's mix of a readoption spread attack and downfield passing game in a 31-22 win, while the Texans overcame 336 rushning yards by Rockport-Fulton's run heavy Slot-T scheme. The senior fullback Deleon owns Navarro's single-season school rushing record with 2,003 yards and 27 touchdowns. The speedy senior tailback Alegria enters Friday with 1,016 yards and nine scores. Sims, the junior halfback, is only 22 yards away from becoming the team's third player to top 1,000 this season. The Panthers churned out 330 rushing yards and averaged 9.4 per carry in the October win over Wimberley. The Texans haven't exactly leaned on a dominant defense to advance to the regional finals. Wimberley has allowed at least 34 points in four straight games. Friday's kickoff at the Alamodome is slated for 3:30 p.m. The game will air live on KWED 1580-AM and Seguintoday.com. Rodolfo “Rudy” Villarreal Rodolfo “Rudy” Villarreal (Popo), 79, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. He was surrounded by family and surrendered peacefully into the arms of Jesus. Rudy was born March 8, 1940, in New Braunfels, Texas to Emiliano and Maria Villarreal. He was the youngest of 4 siblings. Rudy retired from Hexcel Corp in Seguin in 2000 after 37 years of service. He quickly found that he ran out of things to do around the house and went on to work for Canyon Regional Water Authority for a number of years. Retiring again in 2008, he began his campaign as a “local celebrity” Rudy found his groove as a door greater at the local HEB. There was not a stranger that walked through the doors. He often times chatted up guests and seldomly went unrecognized when out and about around town. Rudy was a culinary master. His passion for Texas Style BBQ including fall apart brisket with just the right amount of burnt ends, baby back ribs with his famous dry rub and his favorite, Granzin’s Garlic sausage were regularly found on one of his numerous smokers in his backyard. Rudy’s menudo was second to none. He made his famous “menudo pendejo” during the Comal County Fair and both friends and strangers gathered to enjoy the delicacy. Rudy was a selfless servant. Those who knew Rudy would tell you that he was passionate in all that he did, from working to provide for his family, to cooking ice chests full of menudo for Holy Family Church bazaars, to having a chat about the weather, he was always thinking about others. Lasting memories of Popo will surely include his love for music. His music collection rivaled any record shop. From records to cassettes and CD’s, he had them well organized and ready to play on one of his many radios throughout the house. Rudy was blessed with a loving family. His 7 children were privileged to have a man of great wisdom and knowledge. His anecdotal tales and light-hearted stories will truly be missed. Rudy is preceded in death by his parents,
Emiliano and Maria Villarreal and his brother, Tomas Villarreal. Survivors include: wife Deanna C. Villarreal, sister Emily Herro (Vernon) and brother Pedro Villarreal Sr. daughters, Rita Saathoff (Robert), Ruth Ann Montalvo, Ruby Martinez, Pamela Cantu (Jesse), Princess Little (Kevin) and sons, Ricardo Villarreal (Alice) and Rudy Villarreal Jr. (Sasha). Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hope Hospice New Braunfels. Memorials may be sent in Rudy’s name to Hope Hospice New Braunfels. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 4:00-9:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral procession will depart the Sunset Chapel on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 9:30 AM for the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Comal Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.com

Parkinson's Treatment Impairs Patients' Ability To Swim
Hearing Loss Leads To School Behavioral Issues
(Undated) -- A deep brain stimulation device which is implanted to control Parkinson's symptoms makes some patients lose their ability to swim, while improving their symptoms. So far, the effect has been felt by nine patients who were good swimmers after they were diagnosed, but prior to the new treatment. One patient, a 69-year-old man who'd been a good swimmer, found out he could no longer swim when he jumped into a lake. He said he would have drowned if not rescued by a family member. While three of the patients regained their swimming ability after turning off their devices, they ended up they turning them back on, due to their Parkinson's symptoms worsening.
(Undated) -- A new study links slight hearing loss in children with performance problems school and an increased likelhood of behavior problems. According to JAMA OtolaryngologyHead and Neck Surgery, among nearly 5,000 Dutch elementary school children, slight or mild hearing impairment was linked with higher behavioral problem scores on questionnaires filled out by parents and with lower scores on standardized tests. Lead author Dr. Carlijn le Clercq, of Erasmus University Medical Center had her team study 4,779 children born between 2002 and 2006, with kids afflicted with moderate or severe hearing loss were excluded from the study.
