Coat, heater, bike, toys to S o u n d s o f C h r i s t m a s be distribution by CCSCT By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- Thanks to generous donations, coats, heaters and even children's bikes will be distributed to local families this weekend. The distribution drive is part of the annual effort to make sure families have the basics to keep safe and warm this winter. It is hosted each year by the Community Council of South Central Texas and by the Seguin Print Shop which will help distribute toys to families in need. An Austin area business operated by Seguin native Joey Lopez will be contributing the bikes. Leal says the CCSCT has many great partners who not only want to prepare local families for the holidays but ensure they have the basics for the winter months that lie ahead. "We do want as many people that can come to our event and get a warm winter coat and toys and all this good stuff but of course, if there's a lot of people, we can only give out so many coats and so many heaters and bikes but we will make it work and hopefully, no kid goes home without a coat, without

a bike but we'll see what happens. We have lots of coats and we've bought heaters. Hopefully, there's enough for everyone this year," said Leal. Leal says if the parents bring the required documents, then they don't have to bring the children. Again, he says the CCSCT just wants to assist as many families as possible. "I encourage them to show up. We can tell on the award letter, the food stamps or Medicaid or Medicare of how many kids in the family. So, if they can't come, we'll just go with how many kids in the household. We can't give bikes to everyone in the household especially if there is five kids but we'll see what we can do," said Leal. Those seeking assistance with any of the following items are asked to bring a photo ID and TANF, SNAP or SS or SSI award letter for this current year. Families are encouraged to arrive early as items will be distributed while supplies last. The coats, heaters and toys will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the CCSCT offices located at 1201 W. Court St.

The Dwyer Family was among those who rang the bell during this year's Salvation Army Kettle Campaign. Cecily Dwyer and children Caylee (pictured) and Caleb Dwyer volunteered as representatives of First Presbyterian Church in Seguin. The last day for the Kettle Campaign is Christmas Eve.
