Student named winner of this year's KWED Christmas Angel contest By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- "I think this wonderful girl that radiates light in an often dark world deserves a little light given back this Christmas season." Those are the written words of area resident Ora Cevallos as she describes her little cousin Angel Nicole Longoria, the winner of this year's KWED Christmas Angel Contest. Longoria, a junior at Seguin High School, says she was surprised to learn that she had been chosen to win the $500 cash prize from the Christmas Angel. In years past, it was the student who wrote a letter about their own families explaining why they were needing or deserving of the prize.
Ora Cevallos's letter about her little cousin Angel Nicole Longoria, 18, was chosen as the winner of this year's KWED Christmas Angel contest earning Longoria and her family with $500 cash.
This year, however, the contest encouraged the adults in the community to do the writing and write in about a student who they felt deserved this year's recognition. As part of the contest rules, the
letter by the adult would have to be read live on the air at Seguin Radio KWED. This would also be the first time that Longoria would hear the words spelled out by her cousin. Sitting across from Longoria in the studio, Cevallos reads, "Dear Christmas Angel, I've never written one of these, however, I know of someone that is very deserving of your grace. A (junior) at Seguin High School, a girl that has overcome tremendous strife and coincidentally her name is Angel Nicole Longoria. As a baby, Angel fought to stay in this world and thanks to one woman and her bone marrow transplant halfway across the country, Angel was given the opportunity to thrive. I have seen firsthand how this spunky, loving and caring girl has made those around her world so much brighter." Cevallos went on to share that while although she has come this far, the teenager faces yet another new set of challenges. See ANGEL, page 3
