MIRACULOUS PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it dear Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your father sees it, then in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favor will be granted. Never known to fail I.S.G.

James Donegan, an Off-Broadway actor, will be taking over the stage at the Texas Theatre this Thursday to host "Songs You (Should) Know: A Benefit for the Texas Theater." Donegan, who just a few weeks ago wrapped up with the Off-Broadway musical, "I Spy A Spy," says thanks to a number of local supporters and some long distance planning, the show for this Thursday is a go. "The timing sort of worked out. I had not planned to visit home but I was working on some things up here. I was in an Off-Broadway musical this summer that unfortunately didn't run as long as expected. That always stinks but the good news is it meant that I could come home for a little while and visit my family. So, I posted on Facebook that I was coming home, that I was excited to have that visit and Jeff Koehler just commented 'why don't you do a concert at the Texas?' And, for some reason, I said yes and here we are. Now it's now. It all kind of came together very quickly in the last few weeks really and I said these are the dates that I'm going

to be there. I'd love to do it on Thursday, the 22nd. He checked with Steve Tschoepe at the Texas and said the space was available and that they would love to have me and I called Tom Engler. He was my first voice teacher that I ever had when I was in high school and asked if he would play the piano for me and accompany me and everyone said 'yes.' So, sometimes the universe says 'You know what? Let's do this," said Donegan. Over the past 20 years in New York, Donegan has continued his talent in both singing and acting. Among his most notable performances was the two year run of Forbidden Broadway. Forbidden Broadway is an OffBroadway revue parodying musicals particularly Broadway musicals. This week, Donegan says he invites all to come out and listen in as he reminisces his time here in Seguin

and in New York with songs from various classic shows many of which hold special meaning for him. "The first half of it, I'm really concentrating on shows that I did when I was in high school and in college there in Seguin. I sing some things from Oklahoma, from Annie, from Godspell which I did from when I was in junior high -- from Guys and Dolls. So, that's sort of the first part and then the second part, I focus a little bit more on my professional career. Since I've been in New York which has been 20 years now since I've moved and my work as a professional actor -- kind of telling a few stories and singing some songs. I'm very happy my niece, Ellie Follis, is also going to join me on stage. She will sing a couple of songs. She just this last year, was the lead of Kiss Me Kate at Seguin High School right before she gradated which I got to see and she was wonderful so I asked if she would want to come and

sing a couple of those songs and so I think it will be a well rounded night. It's pretty much all Broadway because that's the kind of music I sing and like I said, a few stories," said Donegan. A reception will follow in the Texas Theater's Chandelier Room. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at Gift & Gourmet, Keepers, the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce office or online at thetexas.org. Tickets may also be purchased over the phone by calling 830-372-6168.

Lowering of area lakes Navarro ISD officially begins discussion on today’s 2019-2020 school year GBRA agenda GBRA continued from Page 1 Charlie Hickman, GBRA's executive manager of engineering, reported earlier that they remain concerned about the safety of the dams on all the lakes. He stated that an engineering study shows the 90-year-old dams are at risk of failing. In a statement released by GBRA, officials noted that "over the last several years, GBRA has taken several steps to make the areas safer. The list of safety measures included adding

signage and buoys, establishing and extending restricted zones around the dams, and installing real-time monitoring cameras, as well as sirens and public address systems - to warn people of the hazards. They say despite those efforts, video monitoring systems continued to capture people within the restricted areas close to, and in some cases, on top of the dams." The GBRA Annex building is located at 905 Nolan St.

Seguin ISD students invited to kick off the school year with a good book STORY continued from Page 1 Gutierrez says he hopes by reading to the kids the night will not only encourage literacy but will also reinforce the district's pledge to be a family #MatadorFamily and a community #TeamSeguin. "Kids have a lot of anxiety whether it's good anxiety or bad anxiety about going back to school. So, it's my hope that I will have an opportunity to read to hundreds maybe thousands of kids to help ease that anxiety. I want them to know that everyone is welcome this

year. Just the issues we are seeing in our world, I want kids to know that we embrace all. Everyone is different and being different is something that we embrace in Seguin ISD. So, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to engage with all kids from across the district Wednesday night," said Gutierrez. Dr. Gutierrez's Back to School Read Aloud begins at 7 p.m. today. Again, the live read can be found on the superintendent's Facebook page. The story will be available on any electronic devices including cell phones.

NAVARRO continued from Page 1 Carter says the congestion around the district can be a bit chaotic the first few days and suggest that parents just give it some time for things to calm down.

"I would ask also that parents try not to come to pick up children at the elementary school prior to dismissal time. Sometimes, they want to avoid the waiting line and park their car and come into school at 2:45 or 3 o'clock to get their children. We are still having school and we don't expect to be releasing children so that parents can avoid the wait. So, we do need for everyone to be patient. Of course, if children have doctor's appointments and that sort of thing, that's a different story but we would ask that parents not just come and park in the line on Link Road very early in the afternoon because that just adds to the congestion. Once we actually have dismissal, the traffic line moves fairly efficiently and so it is really better to try to come just prior to dismissal time or just a few minutes afterward when the first rush is through. So we ask for your patience," said Carter. Parents of bus riders are also reminded to have a little patience as the district works out the kinks in its bus schedule these next couple of weeks. She says the district is still in need of

a few bus drivers. She says until they can be hired and trained, the bus routes, at least a couple of them, will be operating a bit differently than normal. "We raised our starting bus driver hourly rate to $15.25. We hope to fill all of our driving spots within the next couple of weeks. But it may be that for the first couple of weeks, we have to double up a route which will probably be the one in Geronimo Haven. So, we will probably be picking up the younger children first, dropping them off at elementary and intermediate and then doubling back to pick up junior high and high school students and get them to school. We don't anticipate anyone being late. We certainly want to get everyone to school in order to have breakfast as well. So buses may run in the Geronimo Haven area a little bit differently than they normally do. The transportation department has been working to contact parents in that regard," said Carter. The bell schedule will remain the same for each of the Navarro ISD campuses. Again, parents of bus riders are reminded to allow for some wiggle room with bus schedules at least for these next couple of weeks. Those needing to contact the Navarro ISD bus barn may do so by calling 803-401-5575.

Longoria, Bell named Preseason All-Americans by D3football.com (Seguin) - Texas Lutheran senior defensive end Manny Longoria and junior safety James Bell were named Friday to the 2019 D3football.com Preseason All-American Team. Longoria and Bell were two of the seven American Southwest Conference players to be recognized by D3football.com on the preseason All-American team. Hardin-Simmons senior tackle Johnathan Castaneda and Mary Hardin-Baylor senior defensive tackle Joey Longoria and junior safety Jefferson Fritz were named to the First Team. HSU senior safety Dedrick Strambler and sophomore return specialist Rae Millsap were placed on the Second Team. Longoria and Bell were named to the Third Team. “To me, the first emotion I feel is an immense amount of pride because those two young men deserve any recognition that they receive,” said Carl Gustafson, TLU’s third-year head football coach. “They are great teammates. They are all about the team first. They are tremendous athletes. They are great leaders, and they are tremendous role models on the field and off the field.” “These are the guys you root for because they are team-first guys. They love their teammates and their teammates love them. When those guys excel, they are program-type men. They set a culture in a program. These two men have modeled what we want all the other guys to do. If the team follows the example set by

these two men, we will be in great shape.” Longoria comes off an outstanding junior season in which he earned a Second Team All-South Region selection and claimed First Team AllASC honors. Longoria was among the national leader in sacks (19th) and tackles for loss (11th). He also ranked 32nd in forced fumbles. Longoria led the ASC in sacks per game and tackles for loss, and he tied for the conference lead in fumbles forced per game.

New Study Links Fluoride Exposure To Lower IQ Scores in Children (Toronto, Ontario) -- One of the great achievements in public health is under fire after a new study found it may be affecting intelligence in children. The fluoridation of water, which reduced cavities as well as socioeconomic disparities in dental disease, may be linked to lower IQs in children. The study found fluoride exposure during pregnancy was associated with lower scores in children ages three to four. However, the potential neurotoxicity associated with exposure to fluoride remains unclear. Intelligent quotient, or IQ, measures a person's mental age score versus their chronological age, with the median raw score defined as 100.

Planned Parenthood Withdraws from Title X Federal Funding (Washington, DC) -- Planned Parenthood is leaving the federal family planning program instead

of complying with new abortion restrictions. In a statement, the non-profit organization says the Trump Administration forced grantees out of Title Ten through "an unethical and dangerous gag rule" on health care providers. Title Ten is a decades-old bipartisan program for affordable birth control and reproductive health care. Acting President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson says they will use "emergency funds" to provide services to patients, but the impacts of leaving the program will vary state by state.

FDA Approves New Heart Surgery (Silver Spring, MD) -- A breakthrough heart surgery is now available. The FDA just approved the procedure for patients in need of aortic valve replacement. It's the same surgery musician Mick Jagger had earlier this year. The procedure takes an hour to insert a transcatheter heart valve and is less invasive than open-heart surgery. Doctors also say it has a shorter recovery time with most patients going home the next day.
