“We’ll get those little devils!”

MIRACULOUS PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I have asked for favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it dear Jesus and place it within your own broken heart where your father sees it, then in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favor will be granted. Never known to fail I.S.G.

you are walking into the door picking up your pizza and you are on your way and going back home. We have to find a way to help our advertisers stay connected to their customers who are buying their goods and services and there are so much to compete with now when it comes to getting the attention of shoppers or people who want to buy whatever it is your selling whether it's a good or service. So, to have your voice heard, you need to be as many places as they are and this gives them another opportunity to say 'here's my ad. Not only are you going to get my ad that we were running in the Seguin Daily News, the old print version, but now, you are going to be able to directly connect with those goods and services that I'm selling. It's a win win situation for the consumer. It's a win win situation I think for the advertiser that now, they have gained greater access to one another and I think that's a great thing for everybody in Seguin," said Dunn.

DIGITAL continued from Page 1 "I will be the first to say I know a handful of people who are going to be unhappy about this but I think the vast majority of people will be really pleased with the product that we've put together. We've spent a lot of time on this and I think we've been very thoughtful about how we roll this out and so, for those people who are a little bit uneasy about it, let me sit down and talk to you. Come see me. Talk about accessibility. Come see me. If I'm not in the building, they'll find me and let's sit down and talk. I'm going to give you my cell phone number in a minute but I'm serious about this. If you are uneasy about it and you want to talk about it, I can guarantee you I can show you how easy it can be for you. Then, you can play around with it and decide whether or not it's going to be something that will work for you. I think it will but if you are uneasy, let me help you out," said Dunn. Like Dunn, employees of KWED and the Seguin Daily News are also pretty excited about this new launch into the future. Linda Duncan, on-air-personality, says what is perhaps most exciting is the new level of engagement that readers will also now have with local businesses whose advertisements appear in the Seguin Daily News "Something that is really exciting for me and I know that will be exciting for those who advertise in the Seguin Daily News is this opens up this whole new platform to advertise because when you go to the site, when you see an ad that is next to a story that you read or maybe you are looking at the Community Calendar or the Religious section and you see an ad for let's say Marco's Pizza. 'Oh that sounds good! Oh, there's the number, but if you click on it, it's going to take you maybe to their website or maybe to a video inviting you to give you even more information so that's really exciting for our advertisers," said Duncan. Dunn says the ability to connect with advertisers is no doubt ahead of the technology curve especially when a product or special deal is locked in with just a simple click of the button.

Even local non-profits stand to benefit even more with this new all-digital format. Dunn says informing the community and connecting citizens will be among the many perks behind this major upgrade of the Seguin Daily News.

"I did a how to video, how to access the Seguin Daily News and I used Little Caesars' as an example of how that will work. You click on the ad. You go to the Little Caesars' page. It's their page, the Seguin location's page. It's there ready for you to place your order. You place your order and then 15 minutes later,

"People may not know, Linda Duncan is responsible for putting together the Community Calendar and the Religion pages and now, we will have the ability as long as they give Linda a clickable link that's a website or a Facebook page -- any of those things -- Our Lady of Guadalupe just had their big bazaar. We linked to their Facebook page in the digital version. Any of those clickable links will automatically be detected by this new piece of technology so it's important for non-profit groups, if you are listening/reading to this, when you send something out, you want to make sure that you have some way that people can digitally reach out to you whether that's an email, whether that's a website, whether it's social media give them somewhere to go and that link should be automatically detected and then become clickable on the new digital Seguin Daily News," said Dunn. Seguin Daily News now interactive with readers thanks to all digital format DIGITAL continued from Page 2 This is especially helpful for those non-profits or business owners who require people to sign-up, register or buy tickets of some kind. A click of the button can automatically take them to where they need to go. Dunn says this newest and latest format change of the Seguin Daily News hails an exciting time for the media company. He say it's especially exciting to share the online format on this very special day, Monday, Sept. 9, also the 71st birthday for KWED. It was in 1948 that KWED Radio first went on the air. "For me, I feel like there's some new energy in the building as we started talking about this. Everybody was like, 'wait, wait, we are going to do what?' Then as we started to look at it and explore and pull back all of the layers, I think it did bring some new energy to our operation," said Dunn. Duncan says only the physical format has changed. She says the number of stories, ads and other valuable information produced each day remains the same. "I think what I"m most excited about too is just each of us, all of us who work here, we have this love for our community and I hope that that comes through. We are all about Seguin all the time and we care about not just us as a whole. We care about our individuals in our community and we care about you getting the right, the true, the exact information and this is just another way for us to give that information to you. It's an exciting time to be a member of this community and I'm just glad to be a part of it," said Duncan.

Thousands of people see this Just like you are right now!

CALL 379-2234 for more information about this space

Although most folks will find it easy to access the new online version, KWED and the Seguin Daily News still want to ensure that you access the pages thoroughly and that you direct yourself to all of the great content that lies on each page. To help do that, Dunn has created an online how to video -- navigating folks through this now all digital gift to the Seguin community. "I really wanted to take my time and kind of walk through that whole process of how you get on. There are actually a number of ways you can access the new digital Seguin Daily News. You go to SeguinToday.com, you are going to find the Seguin Daily News there. There's a how to video there now. It's also on our Facebook page and Instagram. The second way to access the Seguin Daily News is via our social media pages. Every day, we post a new link for that day's Seguin Daily News. The third way, is there is an app for your phone. It's called issuu.com and issuu is the company that we are working with that allows us to have some of this technology. If you want to use the issuu app and that's for both via the App store and for Apple products and via Google Play for Android. You can download the app and there you can find all the copies of the Seguin Daily News there," said Dunn. Dunn says change can often be difficult for some especially those who don't consider themselves "very tech savvy." However as part of this new endeavor, Dunn says he's committed to doing his part to help with this transition. "The information is still there. The product, the Seguin Daily News, is still there and here's my

answer to people who say 'Well, I liked holding the printed copy and I want my Seguin Daily News and I want to be able to hold it in my hand.' What I say to those people is I hear ya. I understand that that was something that you became comfortable with and change is often a hard thing but as we grow and develop this company as we grow this organization and this community, the future is going to be digital and we are jumping in in a big way to increase our accessibility. So while you may be most comfortable wtih that, as the growth and change occurs, we are going to be connecting to more people who will be able to say 'thank goodness, I can now get a copy of the Seguin Daily News.' It's going to be wherever you are. I mean there are a few people that are not going to have devices. That's why we have a public library and some other spaces where you can have free access to those things but for everybody else, accessibility is not going to be an issue. Now, you may get there and say, I don't like it as much as holding it in my hand but I think it's just something you need to try. I think you will get used to it and I think you will really enjoy it," said Dunn. The last official printed version copy for the Seguin Daily News was Friday. This new digital format will continue to be heavily promoted on AM 1580 KWED, online at SeguinToday.com, in the SDN itself or via the KWED/Seguin Daily News Facebook, Twitter or Instagram social media pages. Those with questions are again encouraged to visit with Dunn by calling KWED at 830-3792234 or by contacting him on his cell phone at 830-305-0423.

Unicorns pull away in second half to hand Matadors 45-26 loss (Seguin) - Seguin landed on the short end of the Guadalupe River Bowl for the sixth consecutive season Friday night in a 45-26 loss to New Braunfels at Matador Stadium. The Matadors sliced an 11-point halftime deficit to 24-19 just three plays into the third quarter when Micah Rodriguez found Clark Ullrich streaking through the secondary for a 49-yard touchdown pass, but the Unicorns used scoring strikes from Peyton Driggers to Lucas Dorrow and Myles Miller to build a 38-19 lead, and Seguin came no closer than 12 points in the fourth quarter. The Seguin defense kept it close early. Linebacker John Michael Mata intercepted Driggers in the end zone to stop a first quarter drive, and after a Marques Washington fumble deep in Matador territory, Seguin held the Unicorns to a 38yard field goal by Chace Mercer. The Mats took their only lead, 7-3, when Dillion Gutierrez intercepted a Driggers pass on the right sideline and raced 35 yards for a touchdown with three minutes left in the opening period.

"Guys played hard," Seguin head coach Travis Bush said. "That wasn't a question. Guys played their tails off. The defense made some plays early. That kept us in the ballgame. We knew they were a good team, and they were going to make plays on both sides of the football, and we had to make some plays, but they did a good job and gave us an opportunity."

to Trevor Waz just two minutes into the period, and the Stiles PAT trimmed the New Braunfels lead to 38-26.

Ryker Purdy's three-yard run and Driggers' eightyard pass to Garrett Thompson put New Braunfels in front 17-7 with 3:44 left before halftime. Seguin's Marques Washington answered just 31 seconds later when he found a crease up the middle and sprinted away from the Unicorn defense for an 82-yard touchdown.

Rodriguez, starting in place of the injured Jhalen Mickles, went 14-29 for 198 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception according to the New Braunfels Hudl stat report. Seguin had yet to release its official stats at press time.

New Braunfels defender Clay Coronado blocked a Garrett Stiles punt with less than a minute to play in the half. Driggers rifled a 29-yard strike to Lucas Dorrow in the front of the end zone to give the Unicorns a 24-13 halftime cushion. After falling behind by 19, Seguin showes signs of life early in the fourth quarter. Rodriguez lofted a one-yard touchdown pass on a fade route

Driggers responded with his fifth touchdown pass of the night just one minute later, a 37-yard delivery to Thompson that established the final margin.

"Offensively, Micah's first start at quarterback and a little rusty early, and we just didn't take advantage of those opportunities in the first half like we wanted to," Bush noted. Washington topped the century mark rushing for the second straight game, totaling 125 yards and a score on 14 carries. Ullrich led the receivers with four catches for 74 yards and a touchdowns. Tanner Schuele

recorded a team-high 10 tackles. Driggers led New Braunfels with 18 completions in 27 attempts for 253 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. Dorrow hauled in nine catches for 137 yards and two scores. Seguin is 0-2 with losses to Antonian Prep and New Braunfels for the second straight season, but Bush says tough non-district competition provides building blocks for a sturdy future. "That's going to make you better," Bush said. "We scrimmage tough teams, we're going to play tough teams. They're good football teams, but at the same time, they're teams that we can compete with. You play teams that are tough like that, and you can't missed opportunities. That's the lesson we're learning now, so when we hit those things in Week 6, Week 7 in district, we're able to capitalize on some of those things." Seguin concludes non-district play this Friday when Central Catholic visits Matador Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The game will air live on KWED 1580-AM and Seguintoday.com, with pre-game coverage slated for 6:30. Study: Vegetarians May Have Higher Risk Of Stroke (Oxford, England) -- A new study says vegetarians may be at a higher risk of stroke than people who eat meat. The study found that vegans and vegetarians have a lower chance of coronary heart disease than meat eaters, but they have a 20-percent higher risk of stroke. The lead researcher at Oxford University says it's the first study to look at the risk of stroke in vegetarians, and that the reasons for the higher risk are not clear. She said it's possible, though, that it's due to "very low" cholesterol levels or very low levels of some nutrients. Other researchers are skeptical of the findings, and say more research is needed.

Michigan Becomes First In Nation To Ban Flavored E-Cigarettes (Lansing, MI) -- Michigan is the first state in the country to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarettes.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an emergency order this week that bans the sale of all flavors that have fruit or sweet flavor and includes mint and menthol cartridges as well. The State Attorney General praised the move, calling the governor's actions "exactly the bold measures we must take to protect Michigan's children from the dangerous effects of vaping."

NYC Councilman Warns Kids About E-Cigarettes (New York, NY) -- New York City Councilman Mark Levine was outside city schools Thursday morning as students went back to class, warning them of the dangers of e-cigarettes. Levine says there is now a public health crisis in the city as more children become addicted to flavored e-cigarettes. Levine says flavors such as Candy Crush, and Blue Razz Lemonade are the tobacco industry's way of getting kids to smoke. The councilman is now calling for a ban of all e-cigarette flavors, except flavorless and tobacco-flavored.

Vital Statistics Deaths Joe Raymond Tocquigny Proprietor of Green Gate Garden Center in Seguin. Joe Raymond Tocquigny, 90, passed away on September 5, 2019 at his home. A memorial service will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin, Texas on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 5 p.m. with dear friends Harry and Linda Dietz officiating. The son of Alexander and Balbina Tocquigny, Joe was born and raised in Carrizo Springs, Texas, where he and his four older siblings, Rosalie, George, Alex and Bobby, worked on the family farm. He met his future wife, Beverly Stone, while a student at Carrizo Springs High School, but they were acquaintances as early as first grade. Joe worked his way through the Texas College of Arts & Industries (now Texas A&M Kingsville), where he earned a BA degree in Education and taught High School Agriculture. Beverly received her Master's in Education from Texas A&M. Joe and Beverly were married for 62 years until her death in 2015. They had three daughters.

In his early career, Joe held a number of jobs in agriculture and education in various Texas communities including Weslaco, College Station, where he was a swine specialist for Texas A&M. After living in Canton and Beaumont, the family moved to Seguin in 1968. Joe taught Agriculture, and became the Vocational Administrator at Seguin High School. He enjoyed training many of the community's farmers and tradespeople. Joe had an intense appreciation for natural beauty, a love of nature and a passion for gardening that lasted a lifetime. This was a source of inspiration for many people and provided the foundation for much of the meaning in his life. Joe loved a good barbeque, a cold beer, and being with his family. He appreciated an occasional joke. And, as a born teacher, he had a gift for storytelling. Throughout all the moves Joe made with his family, he always had a home garden with a bed of fresh vegetables, and often a small pond. Soon after moving to Seguin, Joe's back yard garden grew into a small business. Founding the Green Gate Garden Center in 1974, Joe found his calling as a commercial nursery operator. Joe, Beverly and daughter Elise worked hard and developed the business into a thriving wholesale and retail facility that served customers throughout Central Texas. Joe had a talent for growing
