EY 1 STUDENTS EXCURSION TO DOLL FACTORY AND CIBUGARY

On February 13th, EY1 students went to a doll factory in Cileungsi as part of our UOI exploration. Our current UOI is How We Organize Ourselves, EY1 students learned about different products used by societies. Visiting the factory related to our LOI “The transformation that products undergo” and “Ways products are changed to meet the need of society”. During the visit, EY1 students were able to see the detailed process of how dolls were made. Starting from the designing process, choosing the appropriate fabrics, cutting, sewing,

putting on the ornaments and painting the dolls, up to how they are packaged before being distributed.

CIBUGARY VISIT

A

nother fun day, another exploration. Around two weeks ago, EY1 students went to a doll factory in Cileungsi. Last week, they visited another place called Cibugary, short for Cibubur Garden Dairy, a farm located in Pondok Ranggon.

Not only did they see the process, they also had the opportunity to play at the factory's playhouse. It was doll heaven! A room full of their previous products. Students were allowed to play for half an hour in this room. They also visited the showroom, where the factory shows their current products.

The visit was another part of our UOI exploration. This time, the students experienced a day as a farmer. They started the day by enjoying a cup of milk. Once the milk was finished, the students were then divided into smaller groups and were led to do other activities. First, they fed the cows and the calves. Each student was given some leaves to be fed to the animals. The students then took turns in milking the cows. After that, they made their own chocolate milk. Each students experienced the way to pasteurize the fresh milk.

The final activity was another new exploration for the students. They were given the opportunity to make their own doll. It was such an exciting experience.

It was a day full of new explorations, the students went home taking new knowledge and some bottles of fresh milk with them.

The students really enjoyed the day at the doll factory.

ECE Dumpling Festival

Tiny Little Thing with a Yummy Taste Certain dishes are eaten during the Chinese New Year for their symbolic meaning which is believed to bring good luck for the coming year. Dumpling or “Jiaozi” is one of China's traditional foods. In the Chinese language, Jiaozi means midnight or the end and the beginning of time, symbolizing "bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new". The shape of Chinese dumplings can be made to look like Chinese silver ingots (which are not bars, but boat-shaped, oval, and turned up at the two ends). While making dumplings, they wrap coins, dates, peanuts and chestnuts in them. Jiaozi contains fillings, symbolizing a full life and a good harvest in the coming year. They believe that the more dumplings you eat during the New Year celebrations, the more money you can make in the coming year. To welcome the Lunar New year, ECE students were introduced to one of China's traditions, cooking dumplings. It was presented by Zhong Laoshi, helped by Olivia and Lilian Laoshi. During the activity, Laoshi explained the process of making the dumplings and gave example of how to do it. First we need to mix the dough, second make the dough into round "wrappers" with a rolling pin, third fill the wrappers with stuffing, fourth pinch the "wrapper" together into the desired shape, and fifth cook them. “ Yummy.. yummy.. yummy.. in my tummy…tummy… tummy…” The dumplings we made were so yummy! Almost everybody enjoyed making and of course eating the dumplings. Looking at the dumplings that we ate, the upcoming year will be full of luck, happiness and wealth, for sure! So…. How many dumplings did you eat this time? 4

A Visit from the Faculty of

O

ur school is envisioned as a community of learners. Not only keen to be life-long learners, who always improve ourselves through any opportunity of learning, we are also eager to contribute in improving the quality of education in the community. One of the contributions that we regularly do is to welcome visits from other schools or other institutions, where they can learn the best educational practices we consistently apply in Sekolah Victory Plus. One of the visits we recently had was from the faculty of IKIP Siliwangi Bandung.. After the first visit from their master degree students in November 2017, they sent their faculty to also learn from our

Early Childhood Education. The visiting team consists of 20 lectures and staff from the Early Childhood Education department of that teachers training institute. During this visit, they had the opportunity to have a school tour, class observations and listen to a presentation about ECE SVP. ECE team presented three aspects of school management in SVP Early Childhood Education. Ibu Elis and Ibu Dita from SVP Administration team presented the details of administration works, which are required to meet the requirements as an SPK school. Our PYP Coordinators, Ibu Early and Ibu Aini, presented the curriculum which applies in SVP ECE, particularly the strategies in integrating both national and IB PYP curriculum. Ibu Maria as the ECE

18 5

Principal presented the information about SVP ECE programme in general. Not only about learning, but also about the teaching and learning practices, the audience were also given information about the challenges the school faces and the strategies to overcome them. At the end of the visit, we were happy to hear very positive feedback from the audience about our school. They thought that this visit, especially the presentation we gave, brought a new perspective of early childhood education to them.

Nursery Evening Class

D

uring the unpredictable weather, the nursery classes were ready for their next event of joy and fun. It was Friday on the second day of February, and all the cute nursery students were set up with their pajamas and happily arriving to school for their evening class activity. We welcomed the sunset by observing the school environment while playing in the playground. It did not take much hard work to encourage our students to watch what was there around them during the late afternoon as they easily explained their ideas and thoughts to the teachers.

written by Ibu Julia B. Anita, Nursery Teacher

Evening class wouldn't have been so fun without a BBQ. So, we provided our traditional food

called 'satay' to complete our BBQ session with the nursery students. We introduced them to the knowledge of dark and what brings the light. They were so curious about this late afternoon especially when they spent it with their buddies. When they were done with dinner time, we took these little adventurers for a stroll around the school to inquire into what night really is like. Fear of the dark was barely seen in each of their faces. Surprisingly they were all so happy with the activity especially when they knew we had prepared another magical moment for them. The night wouldn't be so magical without fireworks, would it? Therefore, we took our wanderers for a firework show at the roundabout of the school parking lot. Each of the

6

students got the chance to hold and fire this pressed blackpowder wire. At the beginning, they seemed to be hesitating to hold it but once they were under the 'spell' of the sparkles of the fireworks, it was hard for them to refuse playing. The evening did not end there. We then went on with our pajamas act where we took the little wanderers to a never-ending tale to send them to a bedtime play. Some were excited having the bedtime together with friends while some others had a hard time to be apart from their Mommies. Anyway, it still rocked to have spent this magical evening with them.

“BERGERAK DAN BERMAIN” Play Therapy for ChildREN written by Ibu Nadia, Ibu Julia, Ibu Ima & Ibu Merly

On Saturday, 3 February 2018 at E-Building, Harmony Plaza Jakarta, “Bergerak dan Bermain: Langkah Awal Menuju Cerdas” Seminar was held to help Early Childhood Educators and parents to widen their knowledge about play therapy. This seminar was presented by Rini Budi Setyowati, Amd. OT, Chitra Annisya, M.Psi., Psikolog, and Yudi Hartanto, Certified Play Therapist. What is Play Therapy? Play therapy helps children to safely communicate and express their views and feelings naturally and spontaneously through play. Children often cannot, or will not, talk about their emotional problems. Play therapy offers a different approach using tools such as: sand, drawing, art, music, play, games, toys and puppets to enable the child or adolescents to express their emotions and needs. The Objectives of the Seminar ?Educators understand the need of children's development with their cognitive, social, language, emotional and physical as well as the character in life. ?To create safe and comfortable environments by supervising and observing the way early childhood learners play ?To stimulate early childhood learners' critical thinking skills. ?To enable early childhood learners to communicate their process of learning through playing to their parents.

LUNAR NEW YEAR

CELEBRATION 8

Early Childhood Education

C

hinese New Year is here! This year on Thursday February 15th 2018, Sekolah Victory Plus had a special celebration at school. Chinese New Year, more commonly known as Lunar New Year is one of the big celebrations in Chinese culture and it's a celebration Victorians were waiting for, especially ECE students. It is the beginning of the Year of the Dog and ECE always has lots of great ideas for celebrating it with the kids. What's so special is that SVP arranged a show at Amarta Hall where the students got to see “Barongsai” performance (The Lion Dances). How exciting was that! SVP really brought festive Lunar New Year vibes for everybody. As you entered the foyer, we could stop and take a picture in a photo booth with a cute Lunar New Year decoration. Walking around the school, we found ECE students wearing red (oriental outfits) showing that we were all excited for the celebration. Apart from the Lion Dances, primary students also took part in the event by showing their talent in singing and dancing to mandarin songs. At the last performance, the “Barongsai” showed up dancing in the middle of the crowd. It was fascinating that it got everybody's attention! Children loved watching Lion dances. The loud drumming from the dance enlivened Amarta Hall. ECE students took a chance to put red envelopes filled with money (“angpao”) into the lion's mouth and they seemed very enthusiastic! After the show, ECE students went back to their own classrooms to enjoyed mandarin oranges and sweet glutinous rice cakes (“dodol/kue keranjang”) prepared by the teachers as a special dish during Lunar New Year. The fun didn't stop there. They also did art and craft activities, which was making a dog with origami paper as a symbol of the year. Not only that, students also received a goodie-bag with a "Fortune Bamboo" inside. All in all, ECE really brought Chinese traditions to school hoping they will bring good luck in the coming year. Everybody enjoyed the event and was so excited. Happy Year of the Dog! Hope it is a prosperous one for you and your family! Gong Xi Fa Cai! Written by Ibu Suci Winda Astuti, Toddler Teacher

To assess students understanding of the central idea of this unit, the students did their summative assessment and took action at the same time. They chose PAUD Teratai desa Cibening, Bekasi as their designated place and went there on February 13th . There, the students became volunteers who shared their 'expertise' and resources to support the communities and individuals to have more opportunities and access to health and education. The students were very enthusiastic. They divided themselves into three groups which were the health group, the education group and the basic needs group. The health group gave medical check ups and a workshop. The education group taught the PAUD students English, Mathematics and drawing. The basic needs taught the students aerobics. Not only that, but Grade 5 students also donated some education, health and daily need supplies. They bought those things using the money they got from fund raising they did by selling food at school. The villagers of desa Cibening, especially the parents of the PAUD TERATAI, were very happy to welcome the help offered by grade 5 students. They patiently waited for and watched their children doing the activities conducted by our grade 5 students. To wrap up this unit, Grade 5 conducted a Learning Celebration on 20th February. In this learning celebration, the students displayed booths showing the activities and the learning process they did in this unit. They also performed by singing and dancing to songs related to the unit. They also invited the teachers and the principal of PAUD Pertiwi desa cibening. T

his year's PYP Exhibition process has begun. Taking the theme of How we Organize Ourselves, students were divided into 13 groups based on their interest. This year, their topics varied from sport, food, environment, animals, space and bullying. Each group has been working very hard throughout the entire process, from the tuning in phase, finding out and sorting

out.

Most groups went on an excursion for their finding out process, but the Food groups (Spongeycorn Secret Recipe, Modern Food Creator and Gelato) decided to invite an expert to come to our school so they could get all the information needed for their group. The expert was Chef Dea Annisa Putri, who has been seen in many cooking show on some TV channels. She came to our school on February 2nd, 2018. The visit started with an interview session, which was held in our library. The groups took turns to ask a lot of meaningful questions that that had already prepared and Chef Dea was able to give them the answers to satisfy their queries.

After all the questions were answered, the fun session began. Chef Dea gave each group a recipe that was in line with each of their group's Central Ideas, and came up to the kitchen in the 2nd floor with the 3 groups. In the kitchen, the groups tried to cook the food from the recipe with a little help from the Chef. The Spongeycorn Secret Recipe group cooked Pasta Pesto, a simple yet healthier version of a pasta dish. The Modern Food Creator, cooked grilled chicken sandwiches, and Gelato cooked a very yummy but healthy dessert, choco avocado pudding. It was a fun activity and hopefully gave them ideas on what they can make for their summative assessment at the end of the PYP Exhibition journey. It went so well and all the groups managed to cook the food and of course had the chance to enjoy all the meals they cooked at the end.

ow do we find out information about space technology? Well, to answer all of the inquiries, Space X-plorers went to Pusat Teknologi Satelit, LAPAN in CIbungur, Bogor on Thursday, 2nd February 2018. We got a warm welcome from the board of management in LAPAN. They explained every single thing we wanted to enquire about. We got the opportunity to witness the rotating antenna to track the moving satellites. The best thing was the opportunity to go inside the Ground Assembling Room where satellites were assembled. We had to wear special coats to make ourselves clean from outside dust that might disturb the process of the satellites assembling. At the end of the session, one of the students was interviewed about the experience: "Pusat Teknologi Satelit LAPAN is the best place to visit if we want to know any information about satellites. This is like Indonesian NASA. We were happy to know that LAPAN has launched 3 satellites for different purposes and is building 2 other satellites. You guys (red:refer to the LAPAN officers) did a great job explaining to us all about satellites. We could understand everything. I hope LAPAN keeps on improving their knowledge about satellites so it will be useful for everyone in Indonesia" ~I.B.P. Premananda. 14

PYP Exhibition Visit to Global Jaya School PYP Exhibition is a culminating project which occurs in the last year of the PYP. It is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the learner profiles that have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. As Grade 5 students are going to have their PYP exhibition next year, by January and February 2018 they had a chance to visit some PYP exhibitions in IB schools around Jabodetabek. Among others : Global Jaya School, Sekolah Cikal and Sekolah Tunas Muda. The aim of these visits was to observe booths which other students exhibited their works so grade 5

students of SVP will have visualization on how a PYP Exhibition should be held. The students were devided into several groups and they are scheduled to visit a PYP Exibition. The first group went to Global Jaya School in Bintaro on 30th of January 2018 . There were 9 students accompanied by two homeroom teachers; Ibu Ayu and Ibu Elma. We left the school at 7.15 and arrived at 10 o'clock. The theme of Global Jaya School's PYP Exibition was How We Express Ourselves. We joined the opening ceremony and then visited the booths . Students displayed their exibitions into four

16

sections of subthemes. We were guided by two fourth graders in visiting the booths. In each booths , great and enlighting ideas were presented . There was also a chance for SVP students to interview exhibitors. Most of the displays were presented in the form of metafors instead of explicit meanings. This learning experience was very beneficial for our Grade 5 students in preparing their PYP Exhibition next year. We hope that students can apply what they have learned from other schools in their own PYP Exhibition next year.

PYP MORNING TEA :

Why Grit ? written by Ibu Maria Bhekti Utari, ECE Principal

Is our job to prepare our children for success in school or for success in life? This was the question that started our Morning Tea with Parents entitled “Why Grit?” on st Wednesday, 31 January 2018. This session was presented by Ibu Esterlita (Primary School Principal) and Ibu Maria (ECE Principal). Looking at the high number of parents attending this session, we knew the importance of the topic that drew the attention of the parents of our students in both Primary and ECE. Grit has been a topic that is currently being discussed a lot lately, especially in answering the challenge to prepare our children for their future life. A focus on success in life means that, beyond teaching the three Rs (Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic), we must also teach character, emotional intelligence, responsibility, and an appreciation for the complexity of human diversity. We must also teach the virtues of grit—tenacity, perseverance, and the ability to never give up. Ibu Esterlita and Ibu Maria collaboratively shared some perspectives in nurturing grit for children. They started with the understanding of what grit is, why grit is important, the possible

20

causes for lack of grit as well a s t h e things that lead to t h e development of grit. One of the discussions led to exploring the need of grit in our 'No-Pain Culture” and the tendency of “snowplow parents”. This is the term that describe the parents who feel their job is to remove the barriers that their children might encounter. Parents should be their children's foremost advocates, but they aren't helping their kids by serving as a buffer between them and failure. This sharing session was appreciated by the audience who shared their positive feedback and found this session beneficial. Together we learned that we do our children no favors if we fail to prepare them for the real world because they do not know how to respond to frustration and failure. We learned that learning how to respond positively to setbacks is essential. Regardless o f their academic performance, responding appropriately when things go wrong is key to success in life. (Fostering GritHoerr).

This is due to the fact that as one of SPK's (satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama or formerly 'national plus school') we are considered an advanced school in terms of education practices, systems and methodologies and are therefore able to disseminate information and help to elevate the quality of education in surrounding areas. This is in line with SVP Secondary School's commitment to share knowledge and skills with fellow local teachers, particularly in respect of the latest education research and the application of these findings.

5 teachers from SMAN 8 Bekasi came st to school on January 31 to this sharing session. The event was opened with a short discussion on st the topic, 'The implementation of 21 century teaching and learning'. They were then invited to visit several lessons, including Business Management, English, Bahasa Indonesia and Science, and to observe the application of this concept in the classroom context. The teachers enjoyed this session very much and said they learnt a lot. Even though they admitted, several things would be challenging to be applied at their school, they were enthused to try it anyway. It was a great experience to be able to share what we know and to know that what we share will benefit many people.

Parents Info Session:

University

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. - Malcolm X-

written by Ibu Rini Pebti, Secondary School Counselor

On 1 February 2018, Sekolah Victory Plus held an information session for parents entitled: 'Serba-serbi Penerimaan Mahasiswa Baru di Perguruan Tinggi Negeri'. The Secondary School has had a series of University sessions on Wednesday afternoons in Sadewa Room, with the focus on helping our students with their decisions on tertiary education, particularly at reputable universities in Indonesia. This session was conducted by Pak Hendri, Ibu Nuri, Ibu Rini and Pak Delvi, and all parents of Grade 12 students were invited. Ibu Rini introduced the session with a welcome and ice breaking exercise. After that, she explained the application process to public Indonesian universities. She explained that there are three different paths: SNMPTN/Talent Scouting (jalur undangan/by invitation), SBMPTN and jalur mandiri (SIMAK UI). One important thing she highlighted was that parents and students must be aware that SNMPTN/Talent Scouting will be registered by the administration team and counselor. For SNMPTN/Talent Scouting, students just need to verify the data then submit the form, while for SBMPTN and jalur mandiri the paperwork must be done independently by the student. She also reminded parents to be aware of the different deadlines for each of the paths and universities. Ibu Stephanie highlighted that for the SNMPTN track, once the student is accepted, he/she must avail themselves of the offer. Furthermore, if the student declines the offer, the school will be banned from receiving an invitation for the following school year. The information session continued with a question and answer session. Parents were very excited to ask many questions of Pak Hendri, Ibu Rini and Pak Delvi. The session ended with sharing and general discussion with parents. We were extremely encouraged by the enthusiasm and positivity of our parents, and their continued willingness to provide opportunities to their children that give them every opportunity to fulfil their potential. We are grateful to all parents who attended this event. Let us work hard for our beloved children. See you again at the next Parent Info session. 22

ANPS TEACHERS CONFERENCE 2018 at Beacon Academy, Kelapa Gading written by Ibu Fenty Julianti, EY2 Mars Homeroom Teacher

On Saturday 3rd February 2018, several SVP teachers attended a national workshop held by ANPS at Beacon Academy in Kelapa Gading. The theme for this conference was Moving Minds, Moving Bodies, and the keynote speech was delivered interactively by Sarah Blackmore. She talked about cultural neuron-science and its relation between culture and learning not to fade away, but to become even more pronounced as children move from early into middle childhood and adolescence. Moreover, there were many experts with a wide range of educational backgrounds who shared their knowledge and experience through the delivery of workshops. The ANPS teachers' conference mostly helped the teachers to gain more in depth educational information about teaching and learning. Through this seminar, the teachers learned how to be more effective and wellorganized teachers to support students' learning.

meet SVP alumni

MATTHEW ARIEL prepared by Marcomm

Matthew Ariel, from the 3rd batch (Terzion) of Sekolah Victory Plus graduates shares his experiences of studying at both SVP and Trisakti University, Jakarta. Matthew joined SVP in Grade 1 and he graduated from Grade 12 in 2014. He was accepted into the Earth and Energy faculty of Trisakti University, Jakarta, majoring in the Petroleum engineering. He is currently conducting research for his bachelor degree in PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, ONWJ, Offshore North West Java. Petroleum engineering initially interested him because of its diverse applications, ranging from reservoirs to drilling and production. As part of his growth in this field, he is a laboratory assistant in a simulation reservoir, as well as a laboratory which is responsible for logging and interpretation.

Matthew says that a significant moment in his tertiary studies occured when he performed poorly in a class and had to retake the same class the next semester. He says that this was a pivotal moment in motivating him to study more seriously, work harder, and so achieve better grades. Matthew says that there are a number of skills which he developed during his studies at SVP that helped support his learning at university. These include: 1. Presentation skills which are used in teaching and learning, both individually and in groups. 2. Thinking skills - which are very helpful, especially when learning new concepts and being introduced to new subjects.

25

3

. Writing skills - which are needed to prepare written reports and papers.

What did he enjoy most about his time at SVP? The learning experiences and supportive atmosphere towards learning. It was wonderful for him to have teachers and friends that supported his pursuit of goals, especially in Secondary school. Matthew hopes that there will be more qualified SVP graduates and more graduates interested in the field of energy; just like him. Happy 20th Anniversary to Sekolah Victory Plus!

meet an svp teacher

HARVIARINI Ibu Harviarini (Rini) has joined SVP since 2002 as the Early Childhood Education teacher. She graduated with a Master's degree in Education in 2017. She loves working at the Preschool and Kindergarten level. She feels that it is the place for her to learn to be creative and patient. She enjoys preparing the class activities so they will be ready to be explored by her students. During this school year, she teaches the Toddler class, which has 2 year old students in it. It is indeed challenging ! However she is happy to nurture her students to achieve their learning goals. Here is our interview result with Ibu Rini:

What is the occasion / name of the event that you have joined ( for national and regional training)? I attended many conferences and regional training at many places. One memorable event was Konferensi Guru Nusantara.

Where and when did you join that event? It was held in Atma Jaya University, 2011 (Pendidikan Karakter Siswa Abad 21)

Who were the attendees? Educators from all around Indonesia

Could you tell us your inspiring experience at the event? The most inspiring moment at that event was a quote from one of the speakers, Prof. Dr. Komaruddin Hidayat. He said “Bila guru berhenti belajar, berhentilah mengajar (If a teacher stop learning, he/she should stop teaching). Those words make me realize that a teacher should become a lifelong learner.

What do you feel teaching at IB school? What are the challenges and the fun parts? I feel so grateful to teach at an IB school, especially here at SVP. As an IB school, SVP supports both the students and the teachers' with opportunities for us to learn something new. Teachers are supported to undertake training or continuing professional development. The challenging part is to provide fun, yet engaging activities for the young students especially for the Toddlers. However, it is always fun to teach the Toddlers, especially when I see the joy in their faces, when they show their curiosity about new things .

The PSG - Parents' Sharing Session

“Kids Zaman Now”, How to Deal With Them?

K

ids today have a very different character compared to ours as parents when we were at their age. To know why is it different and how to deal with them, is one of the reasons for th our 7 Parents' Sharing Session titled “Kids Zaman Now”. It was held on th Monday, January 29 2018 in Pandawa Hall. It was not only a special topic, but also became a special session because the four of our SVP Counselors were the speakers in this session. They were Ibu Arlita MPsi (PYP Counselor), Bapak Delvi Pardian MPsi (Seconadry Counselor), Ibu Mayang Gita Mardian MPSi (PYP Counselor) and Ibu Rini Pebti Wati Napitupulu SPsi (Secondary Counselor). The collaboration of our SVP Counselors gave a very useful information and knowledge about how to know, dealing with, and prepare our Kids 'zaman now'. They presented about the characteristic of every generation, the kids 'zaman now' characteristics, today's environment, the values that need to be adapted, the way of communication with them, and what to prepare to face the challenges in their future era.

Mostly our Kids 'zaman now' are the Z and Alpha generations, who are a transition generation by evolving technology, with the mindset tends to be instantaneous, rely on technology, social media popularity. Especially the Alpha generation, they were born when the technology is growing rapidly, proficient use of devices, smart phones and other technologies. Born from the Y generation parents who also familiar with the early days of technology development, and open minded and innovative generation that will influence the Alpha generation. Anyway, the family plays an important role in social value applications in social norms, such as for being polite and respectful, friendly and assertive. Although the environmental situation is changing, the actual development task of each generation is the same, which includes cognitive areas, language, motor and social emotional. Our Counselors presented and explained about the future challenges and what to prepare, start from the primary level until the secondary level. For primary level, the challenges are: the use of 28

technology is a major part of life; “Student-oriented assignments' in the form of individual projects; Possibility loss of practical work (replaced by machine) and the emergence of new types of work; A lot of information that can be accessed. They have to be prepared of high learning spirit, independence, assertiveness, ability to focus, self-management, initiative, ability to acquire and apply new knowledge, and flexibility of thinking. For secondary level, the challenges are: technological developments, affect the types of competencies requires and the types of jobs available; global economic developments that affect the types of work and competition among individuals in the world of work (such as ASEAN Free Trade Area / AFTA, shift in work interest towards entrepreneurship);

deteriorating environmental conditions and limited natural resources. They have to be prepared of communication skills, social skills and cooperation, critical thinking, open minded, creativity/ innovation, problem-solving skills, rick-taking, high learning spirit, skills to choose and use information gained from the abundance of available media. To deal with our Kids 'zaman now', we are expected to find the gap (understand the child, ourselves and realize the differences), communicate with emphatically, assertiveness and open mind (listen to the child's

point of view, want to dig, make sure the child feels understood, find a win-win solution), be a good role model (a significant person for the child is the parents, so the child's behavior reflects the value that the parent instilled), and give trust (cultivate self-reliance and responsibility by staying supervised). More than 2 hours, the session was attended by 87 enthusiastic participants and presented by our SVP Counselors. Thank you for all parents who participated in this session, thank you also to all our lovely Counselors, Ibu Arlita, Bapak Delvi, Ibu Mayang

and Ibu R i n i . Hopefully t h i s session will give good knowledge and benefit to all of us for better understanding about Kids 'zaman now'. Thank you to PSG especially the Education team. Thank you to SVP team also who always supported our program. See you in our next session. by Lucia Rita for Education Commission

Flawless vs. Glamour Make up

A Beauty Class with PAC Martha Tilaar Another girly event on Valentine's day at SVP. This year, the PSG Parents' Activity (PA) Commission held a "Flawless vs. Glamour" beauty class with PAC Martha Tilaar cosmetics. As Ibu Yustina mentioned in her opening s p e e ch, that as women, we need to take care of ourselves also by knowing how to u s e make-

up properly. Ibu Shasa from PAC, as moderator in this class, told us that a 'No Make-up' makeup is the latest trend. So they taught us how to create that look for our daily life. Started with a contour, the newest formula of liquid foundation from PAC, continue with two ways cake and shading. Contour applying can be different to one and another depends on our face's shape. Team from PAC helped us out one by one. But the

29

most tricky yet important to all woman is how to create eyebrows! Eyebrows are essential for us women and could take longer time just to create those. And Ibu Shelli, the make-up artist had showed us how. We can also saw Ibu Esti from SVP on stage for being our model that day. The result was so lovely. Thank you, Ibu Esti. Done with flawless make up, we were taught how to put the false eyelashes and using a brighter lipstick to

change our look to be more glamorous. All mommies are so pretty that day but we can only choosing two winners of best make up on each make up look. So the team from PAC chose Ibu Angela for Flawless look and Ibu Gretha for the Glamour look. Congrats Moms! At the end of the event, PSG has three beautiful door prizes added with another three from SVP to be given and a cute sweet heart shaped chocolate to all attendees because we feel like to share the love to all SVP mommies. Thank you to PSG especially for PA team, SVP team and off course all gorgeous Moms for joining our beauty class event and see you next year! Happy Valentine's Day..! BASIC INFORMATION OF IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (DP)

prepared by Bapak Felix Foe Hakim DP Coordinator

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is offered to students aged 16 - 19 years old. The DP was established to provide students with a balanced education, facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding. It was created by teachers at the International School of Geneva, with assistance from several other international schools, in 1968. Since then, innovative and committed teachers and examiners from around the world have played a significant role in the development of the programme.

What is the difference between IB Diploma Programme and Cambridge CIE?

Why IB Diploma Programme? The DP offers a rigorous academic study with ranges of subjects (Languages, Individual and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and Arts) to accommodate and

32

prepare the students for their university. In DP, there is no Science or Social major such as in National Curriculum or Cambridge A Level, means that students must take one or two of the Sciences subjects or Social subjects depending on their interest. Sekolah Victory Plus believe that the IB Diploma Programme will enhanced student's achievement in their university and also for their future employment after they graduated from university. Much feedback from our Alumni mentioned that even the IB MYP has help them a lot in preparing for their future path (communication, time management, critical thinking, international mindedness, etc). All of these necessary skills are a must-to-have for our current students to pursue their career in the future.
