Ethan Allen interior designer Cheryl McNamara of Paramus (River Edge), New Jersey, met a couple who became clients when their oldest child was still a baby. When they wanted a fresh living room in a new home 15 years later—and the same baby had become a teenager— they returned to Cheryl to design something for the next phase in their lives.

These clients had a history with Ethan Allen, and they wanted to bring some legacy pieces, like the artwork over their sectional, to their new home. Cheryl always says, “If you have something you want to keep, just show me. These items are a great source of inspiration for a room that feels fresh, but still like you.”
At this point in their lives, however, these clients needed plenty of casual space for family entertaining (including the teenagers and pets!). Cheryl created two side-byside conversation zones utilizing our Astor sectional and our Brant chairs, employing a striking monochromatic palette and modern farmhouse elements.

IT’S OUR WAY OF CELEBRATING VETERANS DAY. AT OUR NORTH AMERICAN WORKSHOPS, WE CRAFT 75% OF OUR PRODUCTS, MANAGING THE PROCESS FROM FOREST TO FINISH.
Much of our wood furniture begins with logs we source from Appalachian forests. Our craftspeople select and mill most logs themselves, drying the wood in our own kilns. From there, they shape and assemble each piece, then sand, distress, and finish your furniture by hand.
In our upholstery workshops, your furniture is tailored by hand using fabrics and leathers that meet our stringent requirements for quality. Our artisans add the details you choose, from contrast welting to nailhead trim.
It takes time to craft something valuable—no fast furniture here—and for almost a century, the results have been worth the wait.
