CoutureHospitalityConcept we are, of course, delighted and honoured to work closely with renowned architects, interior designers and yes, fashion designers too. And fashion design hotels seem to be in great demand all around the world. Whilst Karl Lagerfeld entered the fashion-becomebranded-hotel-fushion segment already many moons ago - see for example Schlosshotel Berlin, Grunewald. Salvatore Ferragamo’s family started to really professionalise and commercialise it in 1995, but as opposed to others adopted a soft-branding approach via their Lungarno group, lead by our HoteliersGuild member Valeriano Antonioli. Other big names followed and some failed and/or opted out again - see Moschino and Missoni. It now seems that the concept is again gathering some motion: Tommy Hilfiger has announced his new hotel in Miami. Fendi just opened their property in Rome. Versace is opening up a Villa. Bulgari is expanding with LVMH right on their heels. And now rumour has it that even Dolce&Gabbana will jump into this already crowded pond…for the better of the worse which remains to be seen! This LookBook is, however, dedicated to some of the true Grand Hȏtels and to their dedicated hosts, members of our private society, of course. By definition, a Grand Hȏtel is always unique. One of a kind! So, what do these featured properties have in common? Well, first and foremost, at their helms one finds true leaders of our industry - individual and caring ‘hosts’ as opposed to streamlined ‘general managers’ focussed just on bottom line results, Then of course is the rich history and the ‘story’ behind each of those landmark properties. And: all of them feature exclusive Designer Suites! But what really sets them apart is that they live up to the many ‘Shoulds’ that define truly outstanding luxury hotels. Obviously, the hardware should not only be uo-to-date, but state of the art. But most importantly, guest services should be highly personalised with each member of the staff playing their role of an involved and caring host to perfection. And this is, in fact, definitely the case at the Gritti Palace, the Beau Rivage Palace, the Montreux Palace and the CastaDiva Resort & Spa!

Splendour and opulence. The CastaDiva Resort & SPA is both, a small but truly ‘Grand’ lakeshore retreat located on the east side of Lago di Como, in the lovely village of Blevio. As the only eco-friendly resort of the area, it opened after almost 10-year careful and distinctively respectful reconstruction only a few years ago. Its nine villas for a total of 77 rooms are surrounded by a luxuriant botanic park that boasts century-old trees of different species. And its history is amazing: In the early 19th century, Villa Roccabruna - the core of CastaDiva Resort - was known as "Casino Ribiere" from the name of its owner, Madame Ribier, an eccentric french dressmaker from Paris who, while in Milan under the French rule, made a fortune dressing the ladies of the high society and possibly “undressing their husbands”. According to a legend, she was indeed very libertine by nature. Later, And Gene rea Luri Giuditta Pasta bought the villa in 1827 with the first money she earned as a singer. It ral Ma nage actually comprised three houses, the main villa designed by painter Francesco Hayez r and built by sculptor Alessandro Puttinati,. Today, the nine perfectly appointed villas are named after the protagonists of marvellous operas by Mozart, Verdi, Wagner and Bellini. And CastaDiva has since become the preferred hideaway for some of the world’s most renowned celebrities (of course - with George Clooney living in the neighbourhood…) who value the utmost comfort and the highly personalised services extended to them by their host, Andrea Luri and his team.
