Self Help Africa

Self Help Africa is an international development agency working to eradicate hunger and poverty in Africa. The organisation works with small holder farmers, helping rural communities to produce more food, access markets, and earn a living from enterprise development. Self Help Africa has been working for more than 50 years countries across sub-Saharan Africa. The organisation was created when Self Help Development International (Ireland) merged with UK-based Harvest Help in 2008. In 2014 Self Help Africa merged with Gorta, Ireland's longest established INGO, in 2018 it merged with War on Want NI, and in 2021 with Cardiff-based United Purpose. Today, Self Help Africa works in 20 countries. It has its international HQ in Ireland, offices in the UK and USA, and has programmes in 15 African countries, as well as in Brazil and Bangladesh.
