SharePoint goes Mobile with its New iOS App from Microsoft

SharePoint has evolved as a great tool and is used by over 20,000 organizations to store, share, organize and access data. It is available for free download in Apple’s app store. Employees can now access all enterprise documents via this intranet portal on their iPhones and iPads.

This new mobile app gives employees complete visibility and quick access to enterprise resources, news and announcements, content and sites from their mobile device. It also helps them in having a view of what the other team members are working on. The app works with SharePoint Server 2013 or 2016 as well as SharePoint Online in Office 365. Employees need to sign in with their SharePoint credentials for using the app on their iPhone. It also lets employees switch accounts easily.

The application has three tabs: Sites, Links and People. The Sites tab navigates the users to a list of sites that the employees frequently visit and follow and lets users view recent files and activity and all the content of the sites stored in it. The Link tab allows the employees see all the sites and portals of the company, as curated by the SharePoint administrators in Office 365. It gives them a list of important links that they can click on, to access whatever is relevant to them. The People tab lets employees browse through a list of coworkers and view each other’s profiles. It also gives visibility by showing what the colleagues are working on.

This app also features a search tool that lets users find files, sites and people across the company’s sites, intranet and drive folders. This feature allows employees to locate resources by keywords and filter results. The Graph API from Microsoft lets employees see information that is most relevant to them based on how they work. This mobile app also links to other Office apps.

The company is planning to add other features to the iOS version of this app such as support for cross-company news and announcements. The app will also be launched on both Android and Windows before the year end.
