Cover Feature
We would like to introduce you to the cover child for our premier issue of Exceptional Kids Magazine, Miss Victoria Chicoine a lovely 18 year old with special needs and our youngest child. She is part of the inspiration for this magazine. I asked Victoria what she would like for people to know about her and she said her favorite color is pink, favorite thing to do is play video games and read Anime, her favorite food is pizza and hamburgers, she likes math and graphic design. One thing she did not mention is her love for drawing. Throughout this magazine you will see a self portrait she drew when she was very young.
Drawing always calms Victoria and over the years her drawings told us that despite everything going on that day she loved her family, dog and herself. Communication has always been one of the major challenges Victoria has faced. She was diagnosed at a very young age with ADHD and just recently Autism. Over the years I researched for answers to our many questions to help Victoria deal with all of the daily challenges.
Some of those resources were The Saddle Light Center for horseback riding therapy. She spent a couple of summers at the Brighton Center and she will tell you “they liked me there”. Dr Stephen Pliszka, MD with the University of Texas Health Science Center has been wonderful over the years treating Victoria. In middle school we took Victoria to Learning RX in Stone Oak Gina and Kathy were just awesome and Victoria loved her trainer Miss Larisa who was very patient and kind. With the training Victoria improved her grades, attitude and social skills. It has been such a delight to meet with her teachers at school and hear them praise Victoria for her many accomplishments. Victoria has worked very hard implementing the skills she has been taught in school and from many outside resources. Victoria is doing very well in school and has blossomed before our eyes. We are very proud of the way Victoria is learning to work through the daily challenges and we know that with all the supports that we have in place she is going to be okay.
Thank you for picking up a copy of Exceptional Kids Magazine. As a magazine publisher for over 25 years, it amazed me that there was not a source to help me begin the process of finding help for our child. There are so many wonderful people and resources out there that are dedicated to helping families with special needs children.

SERVICES FOR KIDS Medical Equipment Re-Use:
We provide donated, refurbished medical equipment for children ages 0-18. Eligibility requirements must be met, and a medical professional’s prescription for the medical equipment being requested must be provided.
Assistive Technology:
We assist children ages 0-18 with financial assistance to purchase medically required Assistive Technology devices (such as, cranial helmets, tomato chairs, standers, etc.). Eligibility requirements must be met, and a medical professional’s prescription for the Assistive Technology device being requested must be provided.
