IL FREDDO (THE COLD)

Appartenente alla cantina dal 1897, questo vigneto sorge nel punto di confluenza di alcune vallate alpine ricche di ghiacciai. Le fredde brezze determinano temperature più basse della media. La roccia qui è particolarissima: uno scisto blu che tende a sfaldarsi con grande facilità. La vegetazione spontanea in queste terrazze si compone inaspettatamente di piante mediterranee come il rosmarino e la lavanda. Un curioso contrasto rispetto alle basse temperature di questa zona. Ne deriva un vino sapido e floreale, con un caratteristico aroma di spezie mediterranee.

The winery has owned the vineyard since 1897. It is located at the confluence of glacier-rich Alpine valleys. Cold descending breezes result in lower-than-average temperatures. The unique rock has a blue schist exfoliating very easily. The spontaneous vegetation is characterized by Mediterranean plants, as well as rosemary and lavender - a curious contrast with the common low temperatures. The result is a sapid and floral wine with a characteristic aroma of Mediterranean spices.

In Italia e nel mondo è il simbolo della viticoltura di montagna, con 35 ettari di vigneto di proprietà e 125 gestiti in collaborazione e supervisione. Il legame consolidato con i viticoltori valtellinesi è un punto di forza per l’azienda. La cantina, custodita tra le mura dell’antico Castello Quadrio, nel cuore di Chiuro, offre ai visitatori l’opportunità di scoprire le affascinanti sale di affinamento collegate tra loro dai corridoi sotterranei che attraversano il borgo del paese.

Il progetto Vigne di Montagna nasce da una selezione di vigneti vocati a raccontare il terroir della Valtellina, nelle sue molteplici sfumature. Le tre Vigne, Vigna Cà Guicciardi, Vigna Sassorosso e Vigna Fracia sono il riflesso degli aspetti più caratteristici della montagna: i suoli con le rocce di colori diversi, originate dalla genesi delle Alpi; il microclima, che differenzia i vigneti a seconda della pendenza dei terrazzi e della loro esposizione; le temperature, che variano in base all’altitudine, ai venti e alla riflessione solare delle rocce.

Nino Negri plays a unique role in the production of mountain wines of outstanding quality on the international and Italian wine scene. The Winery owns 35 hectares of vineyards managing in total 125 hectares of vineyards including the properties of local vinegrowers. As a matter of fact, one of its strengths has been the bond with Valtellina wine farmers created over the years. The underground winery crosses the ancient Castello Quadrio and the medieval village of Chiuro. A visit to its aging rooms and underground tunnels is strongly recommended.

Vigne di Montagna (Mountain Vineyards) is a new Nino Negri project that includes a selection of three single vineyards that can perfectly describe the different terroirs of Valtellina. Vigna Cà Guicciardi, Vigna Sassorosso and Vigna Fracia are the expressions of the main aspects of these Mountains: the soils, the different colours of the rocks originated from the genesis of the Alps, the microclimate, which is based on the exposure to the sun, the temperatures, which vary according to the altitude, the mountain winds and the solar refraction of the rocks.
