The Secrets of Success

A quick Google search of “the secrets of success” provides 93 million results almost instantly. What is it about other people’s path to success that makes us so eager to learn more? Most of those Google results will tell you that while there are some traits that successful people have in common, the majority of them are based around attitude, not where you are born or what opportunities you’ve had access to along the way. This leads back to one of my favorite Henry Ford quotes:

“whether you think you can, or think you can’t – you’re right”.

01.

Build a solid, recurring customer base through perfect follow-up and customer service.

02.

Use the products.

03.

Be 4CC Active and show your groups how to do the same.

Working towards supporting each of these areas in your business OR failing to support just one of them, can be the difference between tremendous success and a minimal return on your valuable time and efforts. It’s true that there’s no silver bullet to success and that it will take hard work…but this is a proven plan.

One of the questions that I’m most frequently asked is “what are the secrets to success in our business?” I think this is a natural question – we see others achieving and want to understand what has led to their accomplishments so that we can emulate them. As I talk with leaders from all over the world, there are a few things that remain constant. The most prominent among them is attitude. But there are a few more things that those who are successful in our business share. I don’t know that I would call these “secrets” but they ARE important steps to success in our business.

04.

Sponsor every month.

05.

Work towards qualifying for every incentive. They are there to guide you as you build your business. All the pin positions, Eagle Manager, Global Rally, Chairman’s Bonus and all of your local incentives are there to challenge you and reward you for working hard.

Forever was built on the principle that anyone could achieve their goals if they are willing to work hard and our marketing plan is the roadmap. Aren’t we lucky that in Forever, success isn’t a secret?

Forever Yours,

Together We Rise

As you know, last year we started to ponder how we could do more to give back. We’d had our second successful Rally with Rise Against Hunger to pack meals for people who needed them all over the world and were energized, but not really sure what the next step would be.

Then in December, it came to me. We would set a significant goal – to pack one Million Meals in 2017 - and challenge you, our FBOs all over the world, to get involved. I’m pleased to tell you that in mid July, in fact by the time many of you read this, we will reach that goal. With meal packing events in the US, across Asia, Europe, Africa and at our Global Rally in Dubai, we have achieved what seemed nearly impossible at the start of the year – in just over half of the time.

One million meals in just over 6 months, isn’t that remarkable? Part of me wishes that we’d set a bigger goal! But I have been around business all my life and know that it’s important be happy with what you’ve achieved and “celebrate the wins”. Now, celebrating doesn’t mean we are slowing down. If you know anything about Rex, you’ll know that he eliminated “slowing down” from the Forever vocabulary years ago! The team tells me that there are at least a dozen events already scheduled for the next few months. This will add many thousands of meals to our already incredible total. Wow! What a significant difference all of you are making in the lives of so many! If you haven’t had a chance to be part of packing meals for Rise Against Hunger, reach out to your country office and make sure you can get involved. There’s something amazingly impactful about

knowing that the next person to touch the meal you’ve just packed will be the one who needs it most. Yet another reason to be #ForverProud. I want to challenge each of you to use our success with Rise Against Hunger to think hard about your goal setting. If you give yourself a goal, a purpose, a direction and consistently work towards it, you’ll be amazed at your results. Often times, even if you change just a little, with a clear focus, you can achieve a lot. I am incredibly proud to be part of a company, of a global family, that can directly affect so many by setting a goal and working together to achieve it. What do you think, can we be so bold as to increase our goal to 1.5 million in 2017? Keep Smiling

JOAQUIN’S MESSAGE

According to Elon Musk, the creator of the successful company Tesla, “Life is too short for long-term grudges”. We often get into quarrels that offer us little, waste precious time and keep us from focusing on our goals. Eric Worre says the most frustrating thing about this business is watching as someone doing work similar to yours succeeds while you don’t. It is normal to think some external factor is having an impact, something that is helping the other person and not you. You may even come to believe that something or someone is intentionally slowing your business in favour of someone else’s. This is probably the most frustrating point in any business venture. And dealing with this frustration can certainly lead you either to stardom or to become mired in disappointment. No one likes not accomplishing something when we had paved the way and made expectations for achieving it. Delaying the goal set and seeing how others do accomplish it creates a disillusion within that is hard to explain. It is easy to blame others, and even try to convince others that the blame is out there, somewhere far removed from ourselves. One becomes a “victim” of oneself, and we believe this is comforting but it does not move us forward as people or improve our business.

The hard thing is admitting that it is our own actions that lead to our results and, sometimes, it is what we don’t do that causes what is happening to us, but in both cases (doing or failing to do something), we must accept the reality of what is happening to us. Therefore, we are not talking about blame, but rather of becoming aware of what happens by taking responsibility. Certainly, many of the readers of this magazine have read “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle, an excellent book that helps introduce us to the power of action. But there is a margin for learning, for improvement, which helps to design the future, and that margin is in a magic word: STILL. In her excellent and recommendable TED talk, Carol Dweck talks precisely about this, about the margin of “still” (there is hope) against the tyranny of the

4

MAGAZINE #75

failure of “now” (it’s over). When we have the hope of achieving something, our commitment is renewed and grows, our brain strives to make different connections that lead to our goal. But this only happens if we accept what we don’t like, what is happening to us, and we observe, from a relaxed stance, what we can do to change it and what we have to stop doing so that we stop getting the results we do not like. Without acceptance, we look at everything from a position of denial (this can’t be happening to me), victimhood (this only happens to me!) or rage (that person is to blame for what is happening to me!). To summarise, if we learn how to handle hopelessness we will have mechanisms to help us carry on, to build bridges toward “you can achieve it...still”. As Belgian writer, Maurice Maeterlinck, said, “Lack of hope is founded upon what we know, which is nothing, and hope is based upon what we ignore, which is everything” Do you still believe you can do it? Best wishes. Joaquín García Operations Manager Forever Spain & Portugal
