healthy fathers apart from Jesus bringing new life. Let us all remember how our heavenly Father loves us, and recommit ourselves to praying for a revival of fatherhood. And most importantly, let us love our own sons and daughters in the sacrificial way God first loved us.
E
very child asks two questions: “Who is God?” and “Who am I?” God’s plan is that fathers should be on the frontlines in answering those two questions—with their lives and with their lips. What happens then when fathers become a vanishing breed? Simply put, chaos erupts in homes, communities, and nations. In our nation’s capital the percentage of out-of-wedlock births now stands at nearly 57.6 percent. Nationwide, it is estimated that 34.5 percent of children are being raised without a father present in their lives.
10 Do’s & Don’ts for Dads p. 7
In the Church, how many fathers intentionally pass on to their children the legacy that is theirs in Christ? Too few. Fathers wait for the church, the parachurch, the school, or someone else to do it for them. This is an abdication of

20-somethings who were involved in church as teenagers no longer practice their faith (attend church, read the Bible, or pray). The most tragic evidence of the chaos being created in our nation by the lack of fathers or poor fathering is found in the prisons. More than 60 percent of prisoners grew up in households without a father. Some 70 percent of juveniles in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes. Far too many of the women I meet in prisons were victims of abuse at their father’s hands. When I go into prisons, it breaks my heart that this lack of fathering bubbles under the surface of all the dysfunction. It breaks my heart that fathers who were intended to lead their children to an awe-filled awareness
of God are instead dropping their children off at the gates of hell. In our ministry, Prison Fellowship, we teach men how to be fathers again. We help them reconnect and reconcile with their children. In short, we help them live as men were meant to

THE AMBASSADOR The Ambassador is a free, monthly publication promoting unity and revival among the local Yuba-Sutter area Bible-believing churches. The Ambassador has a circulation of 6,000 - 7,500 and is distributed in local churches and businesses in the community. The purpose of The Ambassador is to pursue the great commission of Christ by making disciples and to encourage, inform, challenge and connect the local body of Christ. We believe in the inspiration and authority of the Bible as the written word of God. We believe that God exists as One, in three distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that the atoning work of Christ (His death) on the cross and His resurrection is the ONLY means of salvation and the only way to Eternal Life in Heaven. We welcome editorial content from anyone wishing to promote the mission of The Ambassador. All articles and advertisement content is subject to the approval of the editor. The Miracle That Took A Decade By Patty Davis In 1997, our family moved to the central valley for my husband’s work. Within the first year or so of the move, I began feeling unwell. The only way I can think to describe what was happening is that it felt like death had entered my body. As well as extreme pain and fatigue, I had developed a severe allergic reaction to the sun. Having witnessed and experienced many miracles over the years, my immediate reaction was to pray simply, directly and in full faith, “God, heal me.” But the answer I heard in my heart was, “No, this is My gift to you. It will bring you your greatest joy and will bring Me My greatest glory.” Though many would argue that God would never say such a thing, I knew what I had heard. And I knew I could trust Him. Over the next 10 years I walked through an increasingly debilitating illness. A history of difficult-to-diagnose auto-immune disorders in my mother’s family gave me an idea of what lie ahead and so I chose to befriend the pain rather than fight it. There were victories throughout the journey. My faith strengthened and grew in a way that only a tested faith can. Five years in, I wrote in my journal that it had been a “…journey
Local Churches where an abiding glory is poured out on those who will only take the Savior’s hand and walk. Trusting that, ‘He knows the way that I take, when He has tested me I will come forth as gold.’ (Job 23:10) But there were also some very dark days. The greatest battle was not actually the physical pain, but the sense of overwhelming uselessness and isolation. Near the end of my journey I wrote: I was praying last night and saying, “Lord, HOW can I be of any use to You like this? Just how is anyone going to look at my life and say, ‘I want what she has?’ What a joke!” But He turned the question around and began to challenge me, “Yes, how are you going to bring Me glory in that body that I gave you? In these circumstances that I gifted you with? Are you going to make the most of this or squander it? You won’t always have this opportunity to glorify me in the midst of something difficult. You won’t always have the gift of these trials…what are you going to do with them while you have them?’” I hadn’t realized how short the time would be. For 10 years the answer to prayers for my healing had been, “no.” I genuinely had not anticipated healing this side of Heaven. But on January 13, 2008, a young lady came forward at our

In Fifty Words By Paula McBride
Fourteen-year-old Efren was given a writing assignment: Write, in English, at least fifty words describing your relationship with Jesus. “My relationship with Jesus,” he wrote, “is one of love because Jesus is love. My relationship with Jesus is one of peace, because He is peace. My relationship with Jesus is one of hope, because He is hope. My relationship with Jesus is of His being my provider, for He is the provider for me and my family and friends.” You would have to know Efren to know the impact of those words when his teacher read them in our staff meeting. You see, Efren rarely speaks, rarely smiles. His face is impassive. Efren has spina bifida. Lengthy days in his wheel chair caused pressure sores which became deeply infected. Though they were cared for at the mission clinic, there are not the resources in his home to promote healing. Finally, surgery was performed before Easter. Since then, Efren has been flat on his stomach on a specially made gurney he can roll with his hands. The lift on our school bus allows him to continue his education and get the wound care he needs. But who would imagine the depth of faith in such a quiet, uncomplaining teenager who lives in a tiny village in Baja, Mexico? My comfortable, sanitary North American conscience was chastised. I can glibly sing, “I am a friend of God,” or
“Jesus is all the world to me,” but I know I would be impossibly cranky if I had to lie on my stomach day in and day out. My neck and shoulders ache just watching Efren hold his head up in order to see. I don’t do “sick” very well. What does this say about my relationship to Jesus? What if I were to tell the truth in fifty words? Oswald Chambers offered help with this question when I read, “Jesus taught that a disciple has to make his relationship to God the dominating concentration of his life, and to be carefully careless about everything else in comparison to that.” We don’t have to lie on a gurney to enter into relationship with Jesus, but we are invited to lie on an altar. Our manufactured conditions become
Efren ashes when we pray, “Not my will, but Yours, Lord.” The amazing thing is that

Suffering Evangelism By Steve Burchett www.CCWtoday.org If you had tuberculosis, what would you do? Doug Nichols is the Founder and International Director Emeritus of Action International Ministries. While serving as a missionary in India in 1967, he contracted tuberculosis. He was treated in a sanatorium in India, and while there he tried passing out copies of the gospel of John to the other patients. It was rejected by everybody. Nichols had a series of nights when he woke up coughing in the early morning hours. One night he saw an old, sickly man trying to get up out of his bed, but he couldn’t. Helpless, the man cried and relieved himself in his bed which infuriated the other patients because of the smell. The nurse who had to clean the mess even hit him. Nichols awakened the next night, still dreadfully sick. Again, he saw the old man attempting to get from his bed to the toilet (a hole in the floor). And again, the man failed and fell back in his bed sobbing. Nichols had to act. He got up, went over to the man who fearfully trembled (perhaps expecting another beating), picked him up, carried him to the restroom, and brought him back. As Nichols carefully laid him in his bed, the old man kissed him on the cheek.
Nichols was able to fall back asleep, but he was awakened at 4 a.m. by another patient who gave him a hot cup of tea and asked for a copy of the gospel of John. Throughout the day other patients asked for the booklet. God used Doug Nichols’ suffering, and his loving behavior, to bring the gospel to lost people in a hospital in India. Perhaps you have heard of “servant evangelism” or “relationship evangelism,” but have you ever heard of “suffering evangelism”? Paul told the Corinthians, “If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation” (2 Corinthians 1:6). On Paul’s second missionary journey, he and Silas were beaten and thrown into prison in Philippi. Instead of complaining, they prayed and sang hymns to the Lord (Acts 16:25). God sent an earthquake, opening the prison doors. The jailer was shocked and was going to kill himself, choosing suicide over the humiliation and public execution he would face for allowing prisoners to go free. Paul knew what the jailer was about to do, so he “cried out with a loud voice, ‘Do not harm yourself, for we are all here’” (v. 28). Within seconds, the jailer was asking the most important question of his life, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (v. 30). The missionaries then preached the gospel to the jailer and his

family, and they were all saved. God’s purpose for Paul’s and Silas’ suffering included the conversion of the jailer and his household. In a Chinese Prison The Voice of the Martyrs ministry (www.persecution.com) shared that Pastor Zhang Rhongilang was released from a Chinese prison in August of 2011, having spent over seven years incarcerated. Many Christians throughout the world were praying and working for his release, recognizing this as blatant persecution by the Communist government. While he was in prison (where no Christians may visit), he proclaimed the gospel to the prisoners, guards, and other officials. Upon his release, Rhongilang stated, “I am happy that you and others tried to arrange for my release, but in one way, I am happy that you failed. You almost made a big mistake. If you had been successful, there would be no church in that prison today.”
a level of suffering, but God is using it to introduce us to people who hopefully will hear the gospel and come to Christ. “Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”

A Rare Syndrome My third child was born with a rare syndrome. As painful as it is to experience the trials that parents go through because of this syndrome, God has already used it to bring the gospel to the lost. Just a few weeks ago, we were the dinner guests of an unbelieving family who have a child with the same condition. My wife and I never would have known them if God hadn’t removed genetic material from one of my daughter’s chromosomes. This syndrome has brought

10 Do’s and Don’ts for Dads By Steve Arterburn New Life Ministries
1. Connect before you correct. Part of every Dad’s role is to bring a healthy sense of structure and discipline to the family. Communicating with your child, which includes listening to their “side” of the issue, is a key first step in successful, loving discipline.
2. Be there.
One of the great myths is that a little “quality” time makes up for a substantial “quantity” of time. Going to school, sporting and other events is a big deal! It says – “I have your best interests at the center of my heart” to your child. “Don’t think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing.” ~ Philippians 2:4
6. Love your wife.
7. Be consistent.

from you. Confine the adult issues to the adults. The greatest Dad in the world will minimize the true impact he has on his children if he does not model Godly intimacy in front of his kids. That’s where the cornerstone of their future marriage is laid. Since God chose you to be the holy people whom He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you … And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. ~ Colossians 3:12-14
Kids (especially pre-teens and teens) act like they don’t want their parents to “make a fuss” over them. It’s just an act. Kids need hugs and kisses … affirm them at every opportunity.
4. Phony, macho men are only heroes in the movies.
8. Be careful, you’re in the spotlight.
Real Dads aren’t perfect. You can be a hero to your children if you open your heart to them and admit when you’ve made mistakes. They have an enormous capacity to forgive and their hearts’ desire is to love and be loved. People who cover over their sins will not prosper. But if they confess and forsake them, they will receive mercy. ~ Proverbs 28:13
5. Never make your child choose between parents.
If you have problems with your wife, don’t try to convince your child that you’re “right” or the “victim.” This causes an emotional split in your child and will ultimately drive him or her further away

When you are consistent in your actions, love and discipline, an environment of safety and security is created. Kids need to know that there are some things they can always count on. Discipline your child while there is hope. If you don’t, you will ruin their lives. ~ Proverbs 19:18

Your kids are watching every move you make. To some extent, their picture of you shapes their picture of their Heavenly Father. You have the opportunity to create a positive, loving image or a confusing and untrustworthy one. Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God’s likeness – righteous, holy and true. ~ Ephesians 4:23,24

RESOURCES DOJ Informs Employees to ‘Verbally Affirm’ Homosexuality By Todd Starnes CP Op-Ed Contributor
WWW.AMBASSADORNEWSPAPER.COM
Matt Barber told Fox News that the DOJ has created an extremely hostile work environment for Christians. “This is ‘1984’ just a few decades late,” Barber said. “This is so Orwellian. President Obama said he intended to fundamentally transform America. That’s exactly what they are doing and they are doing it within the Department of Justice.” Barber said some female DOJ workers have also expressed concerns about transgender workers using their bathroom facilities. “They (DOJ leaders) have said if you are uncomfortable with a man in a skirt using the facilities – then tough – you need to get over it,” Barber told Fox News.

privileges. Imagine how humiliating that would be.” Workers were also told to use “inclusive” words like partner or significant other – rather than traditional terms like husband or wife. They were also told to use a transgender person’s chosen name and the pronoun that is consistent with the person’s self-identified gender. DOJ employees were told to stop using phrases like “gay lifestyle” or “sexual preference” – because those words are “considered by many as offensive.” Barber said it was a form of sexual harassment. “If you feel sexually harassed and complain about it – then you are the one who could get in trouble – because you’ve violated the transgender person’s rights,” he said. Todd Starnes is the host of Fox News & Commentary – heard daily on 250+ radio stations. He’s also the author of Dispatches From Bitter America. To check out all of his work you can visit his website or follow him on Twitter @toddstarnes. In his spare time, Todd is active in his church, plays golf, follows SEC football, and eats barbecue. The Department of Justice has been accused of religious intolerance and viewpoint discrimination after workers were sent an email directing them to verbally affirm homosexuality, according to a religious liberty law firm representing a DOJ whistleblower. Liberty Counsel said DOJ employees were emailed a brochure called “LGBT Inclusion at Work: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Managers.” The brochure was created as a resource from DOJ Pride, an association of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees of the DOJ. A Department of Justice spokesperson did not return calls seeking comment. Fox News also reached out to DOJ Pride for comment – but emails were not answered. Among the directives is an order for workers to vocally affirm homosexuality. “Don’t judge or remain silent,” the brochure read. “Silence will be interpreted as disapproval.” They were also told to post “DOJ Pride” stickers in their office to indicate, “that it is a safe place.” One gay DOJ employee is quoted in the directive; “Silence seems like disapproval. There’s still an atmosphere of LGBT issues not being appropriate for the workplace (particularly for transgen-
der people), or that people who bring it up are trying to rock the boat.” Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, said every American should be outraged by the DOJ orders. “This administration is pushing the most radical, immoral agenda on the American people,” Staver said. “Christians are not merely required to ‘shut up,’ but now they are being coerced to embrace immorality that goes against their sincerely held religious beliefs.” Liberty Counsel is representing an unidentified female DOJ worker in Washington, D.C. who received the brochure. Staver said the woman is terrified she might lose her job unless she publicly affirms homosexuality – and she’s not the only one. “Christians are frightened and terrified of losing their jobs,” Staver told Fox News. “You just can’t keep you head down and do your job. Now you have to become an advocate for the LGBT agenda – and if you don’t – the DOJ will consider that to be intolerant.” Staver said the idea that Christians who might oppose homosexuality have to put up a pro-gay symbol in their office smacks of thought police. “Under this directive, one cannot be a Christian and a manager at the Department of Justice,” he said. “How does one who believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible display ‘gay pride’ stickers?” Liberty Counsel vice president

10. Develop Godly character.
Nothing will influence your children more than watching you grow in your relationship with God. You can preach the Gospel by your actions much more effectively than you can by your words. And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him. Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done. ~ Colossians 2:6,7

5 Big Businesses
Where Faith Plays a Major Role By Leonardo Blair CP Reporter Results of a recent study indicate that American entrepreneurs pray and meditate more frequently than nonentrepreneurs. This new research could perhaps explain the interesting number of God-fearing men and women who have founded and built wildly successful companies in America and even with the changing social tides and increasing wealth, continue to cling to their faith. The Christian Post highlights five big companies below where faith in God plays a major role in the lives of the people who lead them.
Hobby Lobby Hobby Lobby Stores Inc., headquartered in Oklahoma City, Okla., is not just one of America’s largest privately owned businesses. Last fall, the arts and crafts giant’s founder and CEO, David Green, was billed the “largest evangelical benefactor in the world” by Forbes and he told the publication that everything in his $3 billion empire belongs to God. “If you have anything or if I have anything, it’s because it’s been given to us by our Creator,” Green told Forbes. “So I have learned to say, ‘Look, this is yours, God. It’s all yours. I’m going to give it to you.’” According to Forbes, Hobby Lobby is 100 percent family-owned and on their list of America’s 400 richest people, Green sits at No. 79 with an estimated net worth of $4.5 billion. The company also employs 22,000 workers in 525 stores nationwide.
Forever 21 Vehicles pass the Forever 21 flagship store in New York’s Times Square during its grand opening June 25, 2010. The 91,257 square feet megastore makes Forever 21’s Times Square location the largest single brand apparel store in Manhattan. With recorded revenues of $3.4 billion as of November 2012, Forever 21 is ranked #121 on Forbes’ list of America’s largest private companies. The company’s owners, Korean immigrants Do Won and Jin Sook Chang, are bornagain Christians who credit their success to direction from God. In a Business Week Magazine report, Mrs. Chang explains that when they were starting out, she went to the top of a mountain in Los Angeles to pray. She said God told her she should open a store and that she would be successful. The couple hope to devote themselves to missionary work when they retire. If the business venture hadn’t worked out, explained Mr. Chang, he would have become a missionary.
RESOURCES The Bible, he explains in the report, is his “favorite book.” “My faith influences how I think, what I do, what I say. There are a lot of great biblical principles that are fundamental to operating a good business. Being fair and telling the truth are biblical principles,” he says.
Chick-fil-A Chick-fil-A is America’s second largest fried chicken chain and no stranger to Christians across the country. The company’s founder and CEO, S. Truett Cathy, is a devout Baptist who has been very vocal in his opposition to samesex marriage. He has a net worth of $4.2 billion, according to Forbes. The company has more than 1,600 stores in 40 states. All Chick-fil-A stores are closed on Sundays so employees can attend church.
Marriott International, Inc With more than 127,000 employees and $11.81 billion in sales, according to Forbes, Marriott International, Inc. is a force to be reckoned with in the hospitality industry. The company’s founder, John Willard Marriott, was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-
day Saints when he was building the business. Even though Willard has passed away, his values live on in the company, which recently stopped offering pay-perview pornography in the hotel rooms of its various properties. (Editor’s Note: The Ambassador does not endorse Mormonism but we appreciate the family values that they hold)
Patty Davis (cont. from p.4) church and said, “I believe God wants to heal somebody today.” In that moment, it was as if God touched my shoulder and said, “I believe God wants to heal somebody today.” In that moment, it was as if God touched my shoulder and said, “It’s time.” That morning, I was instantly and miraculously healed. It has been over 5 years now and I can truly say that those 10 years did bring me joy and Him glory in ways too numerous to count. But that’s a whole other testimony in itself. If you’re going through difficult times today, my encouragement to you is, DON’T WASTE IT!! Let Him transform it into something amazing. Patti Davis is a the owner / operator of Forget Me Not Gravesite Floral Services in Yuba City.
Tyson Foods Tyson Foods, Inc., headquartered in Springdale, Ark., is one of the largest meat protein and food production companies in the world with $33.35 billion in sales. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Donnie Smith is not just the company CEO but also a Sunday School teacher.

COMMUNITY Faith Night
at the Ball Park
The 6th Annual “Faith Night at the Ballpark” event with the Gold Sox is set for Friday evening June 7th, 2013 at Appeal-Democrat Park in Marysville, CA, home of The Gold Sox. The gates open early at 5:30pm for this co-sponsored outreach of the Christian Business Alliance (CBA) and North Side Fitness. Pre-game festivities include an original commemorative program given away at the front gates to the first 2,500 fans and a special Christian concert featuring the band “Forgiven.” Free Bibles will also be available upon request and as you exit the stadium. Be in your seats early to enjoy a powerful on-field testimony at 6:45pm by former Houston Astros Pitcher J.R. Richard. First pitch follows at 7:35pm pairing our own Gold Sox with the Menlo Park Legends. From beginning to end you will also have the opportunity to browse the concourse and meet with many community service/local ministry groups that provide assistance and a variety of resources to anyone in need.
Six years have passed since our inaugural “Faith Night” event in 2008. Nearly 4,000 people came to the ballpark that evening and now 5 years later over 15,000 lives have been impacted for Jesus. This year fans will witness another inspiring Godly message of restoration as former Houston Astros pitcher J.R.
Richard tells of the massive on-field stroke he suffered, while at the top of his game, which forever derailed him from the Major Leagues and nearly took his life at the young age of 30. His 10 year Big League career included dominant pitching performances and 100 mph fastballs that had J.R. among the league

Fifty Words (cont. from p.5) the gurney and the altar do not limit the potential of dominating concentration on God. Efren may get a taste of how his words blessed his teachers. May the Lord get greater satisfaction in knowing our hearts are concentrating on Him. My fifty words would start something like this: “My relationship to Jesus grows from day to day. I desire it to be one of purposeful concentration because He is all I want and all I need.” I pray this is your desire as well. P.S. The day after the writing of this article, Efren began sitting for short periods of time in his wheelchair. Please pray for his continued healing. He wants to work in the wheelchair shop someday.

leaders in strikeouts and earned him a 1980 National League All-Star game starting honor! Shortly thereafter J.R.’s stroke had set in motion a series of events and consequences that spanned some 15+ years and included emergency surgery to remove a life-threatening blood clot in his neck, bad investment scams, failed marriages and homelessness. J.R. lived under a Houston freeway overpass in 1994 only miles from the famed Houston Astrodome where he once enjoyed the fruits of being “King Richard,” and one of the best Astros pitchers of all time. Former teammates and a church outreach group ministered to J.R. and he was restored and re-directed with a new focus on The Lord. Now J.R. is himself an Associate Pastor and ministers to those in need, while being a community leader reaching out to the Houston area’s youth and teaching them about life and baseball. Once again, this year’s Faith Night celebration will be professionally filmed and commemorative DVDs will again be made available thru The Gold Sox and CBA. Be a part of the excitement with all this special evening has to offer. We are expecting another large crowd with special thanks to the many local businesses that stepped up to the plate to support the function. A list of sponsors is highlighted on the special “Faith Night” posters promoting the event at select businesses and churches thru-out our greater YubaSutter area. Free tickets are also available at some of these same locations or you can contact Brad Indelicato at #530-6712413. You can also purchase tickets at the Gold Sox Team Center at 429 10th Street

Major Concert Event in West Linda on June 15th to Benefit
Teen Challenge
Here’s something that promises to be fun. On June 15th, a benefit concert for Teen Challenge will be held with Michael Weaver of Big Daddy Weave fame at the Riverside Restoration Center, 5828 Riverside Drive in Linda. Teen Challenge is a faith-based drug counseling and rehabilitation program. According to Rev. Joan Smith, the Central Valley Area Teen Challenge Director, they have been in serious need of funding to meet their goals. When the idea for a benefit concert came up recently with the Robert Matson/Bill Stark Production team, her pointed efforts to make a fund-raiser happen began bearing fruit. At this point, several local businesses have offered to help, and that has made a real difference. “Their generosity speaks for the caliber of people we have for neighbors in the Yuba/Sutter area.” Volunteer help and the partnership of local businesses have made it possible to slate top-notch performers, while keeping the ticket price at a minimum. It amounts to an opportunity for families to gather for some affordable quality time. General admission is $10. So far, Marysville Music and Matson Vintage Guitars have donated instruments that will be given away during
the concert (ticket numbers will be used in a drawing). Several local businesses and organizations have stepped up to provide support financially as well as in providing necessary event preparation work. Also appearing with Michael Weaver will be Buddy Hyatt, who grew up in this area and is now based in Nashville. I Am They, Paid In Full, and local area performers and bands such as Mike Beaman, God’s Country, and Forgiven will be there. “Reconcile at Riverside” (referring to the Riverside Restoration Center) offers the opportunity to recognize and support community service volunteers, and especially Teen Challenge. I am dedicating my space this month to acknowledge several VIPs who make a huge impact on the Christian Business Alliance and on my life, personally. The first person I want to mention is Debbie Gilstrap. Debbie has been a dedicated CBA board member for many years serving faithfully as our treasurer. She (and her wonderful husband Tad) had also opened their home throughout the year to host regular board meetings (including a tremendous dinner as well). She and Tad recently moved to Texas. They both will be sincerely missed! Next I would like to recognize the balance of the Board of Directors. Each of them are equally important to the organization as well as being very good friends. Due to limited space, I won’t go into specific detail on each individual. The CBA would not be an effective ministry without the following brothers and sisters in Christ: Robert Stark, Roger Shadd, David Hobbs, Kathleen Caldwell, Marty Brown and last but certainly not the least, my good friend, Seth Halpern. I am truly grateful that God put them in my life. I am also excited to announce that the board unanimously voted in our newest board member; Kathy Baum. Kathy will be a great addition and will fill a huge void left by Debbie Gilstrap. One final thought. Is there anyone that you need to recognize as being important in your life? If so, take the time now to call, write, text or email them to let them know what they mean to you.

EDITORIAL EVOLVING IS EVOLVING By Jon Skillman I don’t know about you, but it seems to me there’s been a whole lot of evolving going on. An evolution revolution if you will. Ever since President Barack Obama miraculously evolved from a gay marriage opponent, to a gay marriage advocate, politicians have been evolving quicker than flu viruses. Republican Senator Rob Portman shocked his social conservative cohorts and constituents by “evolving” into a social liberal regarding same sex marriage. Democratic Senator Bob Casey has also announced he has “evolved” from a longstanding opponent of gay marriage to a firm supporter. And Republican Senator Mark Kirk has “evolved” from con to pro on this issue while Senator Lisa Murkowski says her position is “evolving.” What the heck is going on here? What could possibly be causing such widespread Ideological and moral mutation? Could it be the rarified air of our nation’s capital? Radiation from the Japanese tsunami perhaps…or yet another unforeseen consequence of Obama Care? Well if you ask me, “evolving” is becoming the politically correct term for caving. President Obama caved into public opinion in order to secure a solid voting block. Senator Portman caved in to family pressure when he learned his son was gay and he just wants his son to be happy. I wonder what the Senator’s response would have been if his son was a pedophile? Senator Casey caved in to over 10,000 calls in a two-week period generated by members of Equality Pennsylvania, a GLB&T political advocacy group. This all indicates a lack of moral integrity. It also demonstrates the assumption that moral standards are somehow set by the whim of society or a cultural shift. This is where we, dear Christians, clash with our secular brethren… and unfortunately, with churches that

continue to “conform to this world.” As a Christian, I believe morality, is set by God, and therefore, by God, it does not evolve. These two diametrically opposed views of who sets moral values are at the center of the current uproar over same sex marriage. Here is where name-calling and hate breed. If I, as a Christian, state my opposition to gay marriage…I’m instantly labeled a hater and a bigot. And this is where I, as Christian, must be careful not to prove it true. I must separate the person from the sin and realize every person is a creation of God, and is, therefore, not beyond His Grace. In other words, love the sinner…hate the sin. Granted this is not easy to do when people are in my face. I must be able to respect the person yet respectfully reject the lifestyle based on my belief in God’s moral values. Wouldn’t it be refreshing if those who call me a hater and a bigot could respect me as a person…a person who happens to abide in God’s moral truth? Could we not have a civil debate without all the name-calling and hate? But then I realize those lacking absolute truth have nothing with which to debate, they have no other option than to name-call and hate…unless of course…”they happen to be “evolving.”
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Rom 12:2 (NLT)

AS WE SEE IT Raley’s Reality Check A few weeks ago I had an interesting experience when I least expected it. I was checking out from Raley’s with a few items when the cashier pointed at me and said “I recognize you”. I coyly responded, “Of course you do. I’m in here three times a week” But she continued ,“No, from your picture” making the shape of a square with her hands, “in that Christian paper”. “The Ambassador?” I replied. “I guess so. I saw you in there”. Then she gave me the total, I paid and walked out. I didn’t ask her anything about what she read or what she thought about. I was pretty well frozen. You see, I didn’t expect her to recognize me. Sure, when I’m in some church-type activity, I expect people to know who I am. (I’m not thinking that I’m some big “celebrity” but when your picture is out there every month, some people will see it). But I didn’t expect this cashier to see it. Frankly, I was bothered by it. I was bothered that I had remembered how I was somewhat grumpy in her line, in the past. I either had a long day or allergies or who knows what. The point is: I wasn’t “on”. I often feel that I can “let my hair down” so to speak in some contexts and not
Seth Halpern - Editor consider what people will think of me or more importantly what they will think of Jesus, whom I am supposed to reflect. This was quite the wake up call when I wasn’t expecting it. The Holy Spirit, somehow simultaneously both gently and sternly, convicted me of my attitude with others. People are watching, not in a creepy, stalking sense, but they are noticing how we act and how we reflect our Savior. It was a very long walk for me back to my car where I shared the story with my wife. I’m considering my witness more now since that experience. Let me encourage you to do the same. You may not have your picture in a monthly publication, but your neighbors, your co-workers, your children’s friends families recognize you too. Remember to reflect the grace of Christ when you’re with others because people are watching.
