SETON HALL SCORECARD Player 1st Lizzie Win 76 Sammie Staudt 81 Macky Fouse 86 Maddie Sager 109* Cassie Pantelas DQ WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – Junior Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) fired an even-par, Gianna Tomeo (Ind.) 76 72, on Monday to lift the Seton Hall women’s golf team to the team champion- Jamie Greene (Ind.) 81 ship of the William & Mary Invitational.

The Pirates started the day in second place, four strokes behind Richmond. The Hall fired the top round of the day, a 10-over-par, 298, while the Spiders shot a 314 and the Pirates cruised to a five-stroke victory. Finishing second was BIG EAST rival Georgetown. For the tournament, Seton Hall shot a 37-over-par, 308-295-298-901.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Freshman Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) and junior Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) each shot a 4-over-par, 76, in Saturday’s final round as the Seton Hall women’s golf team finished the 2016 Rutgers Invitational tied for sixth. Staudt shaved four strokes off her second round score and moved up the leader board to finish tied for 18th place among 70 individual golfers. For the tournament, she was 21-over-par with an 81-80-76-237.

The title is the 10th tournament victory for Seton Hall since the program began in the fall of 2010. The Pirates’ 901 is the second-lowest three-round par-72 tournament score in program history.

Collectively, Seton Hall shot a 22-over-par, 310, in the final round to finish tied with Fairleigh Dickinson for sixth place with a 92-over-par, 352-294-310-856. Delaware won the team title at 55-over-par. The Pirates’ lone BIG EAST competition, St. John’s, finished third, 19 strokes ahead of The Hall.

Pantelas notched her third career top-5 finish, ending the tournament in second place, just one stroke behind William & Mary’s Katie Edelblut for the individual title. She finished the three-round event with a 7-over-par, 78-73-72-223.

It’s important to note however, the Pirates’ bulbous first round score was due to a pair of scorecard errors. In reality, The Hall shot a 309, but the errors resulted in a 352 being counted. Had the errors not occurred, and the 309 counted, Seton Hall would have won the tournament by six strokes. It’s an encouraging sign for Seton Hall considering they also won their fall season-opening tournament at William & Mary.

Freshman Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) finished only one stroke behind Pantelas to tie for third place among the 63 golfers. Win’s first collegiate tournament ended at 8-over-par with a 77-73-74-224.

For the first time in her collegiate career, Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) was the top Pirate performer for the tournament. The freshman shot a 6-over-par, 78, in Saturday’s final round, and tied for fourth overall. She finished with an 11-over-par, 76-73-78-227. Win becomes the first Pirate in program history to record top-5 finishes in her first two collegiate tournaments.

A third Pirate also notched a top-10 finish, another newcomer Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.). The freshman was consistent throughout and placed 10th with a 10-over-par, 77-74-75-226.

Junior Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) finished her tournament with an 8-over-par, 80, on Saturday. For the three-round event, she finished 20-over-par with an 86-72-80-238.

Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) and Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) tied for 26th place at 18-over-par. Fouse shot an 80-75-79-234, while Staudt had a 76-8177-234.

Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) shot a 9-over-par, 81, in her final round. Minus a scorecard issue, the freshman took another significant step forward during the tournament, shooting a pair of rounds in the 70s. Unfortunately, only one counted. Seton Hall sent a pair of individual golfers to Rutgers as well. Sophomore Gianna Tomeo (Bradenton, Fla.) finished at 26-over-par with a 76-85-81-242, while classmate Jamie Greene (Troy, Mich.) had a 31-over-par, 81-83-83-247.

I’m really looking forward to playing in NCAA Regionals.” Tibbets shot a two-under-par 70 in the final round. The sophomore carded a 71 in the second round after a 77 in the first round. Georgetown junior Lauren Gros and Seton Hall junior Cassie Pantelas tied for second place with a six-over-par 222, four strokes behind Tibbets. The club features three nine-hole courses. The competition will play the first nine holes on the Dogwood Course and the second nine on the Magnolia Course. Designing Callawassie Island’s award-winning championship 27-hole course, Tom Fazio took advantage of the island’s natural beauty to create a juxtaposition of visual drama and superb playability. Magnificent live oaks and magnolias, as well as freshwater ponds and the surrounding saltwater marsh, come into play on most holes. Inspiring vistas and abundant wildlife make nature part of the golf experience.

Pirates Place Fifth

CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – Junior Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) shot a 5-over-par, 77, in Sunday’s final round to tie for second at the 2017 BIG EAST Championship. The Pirates finished in fifth place as a team. Pantelas, the BIG EAST individual leader after the first and second rounds, had a front-nine that proved difficult from which to recover. The Pirate captain was 1-under-par through three holes, but double-bogeyed the fourth and ninth holes. Pantelas was fantastic on the back-nine, shooting even-par, including birdies on No. 11 and No. 17. For the tournament, she tied Georgetown’s Lauren Gros at 6-over-par, four strokes behind the individual champion, Butler’s Lauren Tibbets. Pantelas shot a 71-74-77-222. Although no Pirate has won an individual BIG EAST title, Pantelas becomes the third Pirate to finish second, joining Erin McClure (2014 & 2015) and Megan Tenhundfeld (2014). As a result, she was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second straight year. For a second straight day, the Pirates improved as a team, albeit marginally. The Hall shot a 22-over-par, 310 on Sunday to finish fifth overall. The Pirates’ final three-round score was a 72-over-par with a 315-311-310-936. Georgetown won their first-ever team championship at 32-over-par, after finishing second to the Pirates the last three years. Butler placed second at 41-over-par, while St. John’s placed third at 60-over-par, and Xavier was fourth at 69-over-par. The top Pirate performer on Sunday was freshman Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio), who turned in an eye-popping 1-over-par, 73. Win was spectacular, finishing her round with 10 straight pars. She had 15 pars in all, bogeys on holes No. 4 and No. 8, and a birdie on No. 6. In her first-ever BIG EAST Championship, Win finished seventh overall with an 11-over-par, 79-75-73-227. Freshman Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.), despite a sore wrist, shaved six strokes off her second round score, to finish with an impressive 6-over-par, 78, on Sunday. Staudt was consistent throughout, shooting 3-over-par on both the front and back nines. For the tournament, she tied for 22nd with a 28-over-par, 82-84-78-244.
