ARIES (March 21 to April 19) You might feel more encouraged about changes in your personal and/or professional life. However, it might be best not to rush things but rather work with them as they evolve. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) The Bovine’s business sense is especially keen this week. But remember that it’s always best to investigate before investing. Make sure there are no hidden factors that can rise up later on. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Working on a family project could create tension between and among those concerned. Your good sense and your patience can help reduce bad attitudes and raise positive feelings. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) You should be seeing more progress in the development of your plans and more supporters joining in. News from the past could help change someone’s long-held position. LEO (July 23 to August 22) With personal aspects strong this week, Leos and Leonas might want to spend more time with family and others who are especially close to them. Also expect news of a possible career change. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Taking a strong stand can be helpful this week. But be careful you don’t cross the line into obstinacy. Best to take a position on facts as they are, not as you want them to be. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) You have a strong sense of the needs of others. This week, turn some of that sensitivity into an honest self-appraisal, and let it find places where you can help yourself. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Creating an emotional comfort zone to handle a personal problem helps at first. But by midweek, you’ll realize you need to deal with it directly or it could linger for too long.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Turning the page on a mistake to start fresh might not be the thing to do. Better to go over each step that led up to the decision you made and see which one misled you. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Goats enjoy a varied diet, but eating crow isn’t on the menu -- at least not this week. An embarrassing situation might have gone wrong before you got into it. Check it out. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Your sense of honesty might impel you to speak up about a situation you disapprove of. That’s fine. But do so without sounding accusatory. You might not know all the facts behind it. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Being asked to create a reassuring attitude in the middle of chaos isn’t easy, but you can do it. Support for your efforts comes slowly, but it does come. Enjoy an arts-filled weekend. BORN THIS WEEK: Your honesty about people and issues is expressed in a positive, not painful, way.

Just Go With It

Hello, my name is Guppy, and I am a neutered male Border Collie cross. I am 5 years old. My master has recently passed away, so that is why I am here. I need to Ànd another master who will look after me like my Charlie did. I am a special needs dog because I have seizures so I will probably have to take medication for the rest of my life. The good thing about it is that it isn’t too expensive. I know all my commands and I know some tricks and I can dance.

My name is Jenny. I am a 10 month old black lab cross. I am spayed with all my vaccinations so I just need to Ànd my forever home now. Please come and see me and all my other friends, okay? My name is Sadie, and I am a female Shepherd cross. I was dropped off at a farm last summer. I am very energetic so I would need to be on a regular exercise program - and I do love walking! I appear to be very hyper when people come to see me and my friends here, but I just get so excited, I just want them to be my forever loving family, so please give me a chance to prove myself.

Expressed Opinions Jordan Baker Estevan Mercury Reporter

We could care a little more Africa and the Middle East have at least one thing going for them that we don’t: interest in politics. We have people here who follow the course our governments take, and even some people who are very impassioned when it comes to our politics. But in the last month — governments — read leaders, have been toppling across Northern Africa one by one. It’s been an interesting chain reaction to follow, as you wake up to the international headlines to see which country has been thrust into turmoil between the pro-government bands and the dictator-ousting populace. The removal of the leaders was perhaps smoothest in Egypt, but a number of

other countries are experiencing the same massive cries for governmental reform. Our situations are very different, in fact incomparable to those other countries, but it’s hard for me to see that enough Canadians would care enough to group together in the thousands to protest something our government did. I follow politics; I’m very opinionated when it comes to politics, but when it comes down to it, I have no interest in being part of a protest. I will complain and moan about what’s happening at federal or provincial levels, but I haven’t written a letter, sent an e-mail or made a call to my local representative. Not as an angry citizen anyways, just professionally. Part of that may be because I don’t associate myself with my MP or MPP, or MLA now that I’m in Saskatchewan. I have never voted in a winner during an election, so right off the bat I don’t think of my representative being very representative. The national mood is fairly apathetic when it comes to politics, just look at our voter turnout rates. Now whatever you say about the Conservatives, one thing is sure, they probably aren’t as bad as Libya’s Gadhafi, though they do share a desire to stay in power, whatever the cost, for as long as possible. So maybe Canada doesn’t need to march on Parliament. But seeing the intensity with which some of those people protest in Egypt, I wonder if we got involved, just a little more in what our elected officials do, we could finally hold our politicians up to the high standards that we deserve. It’s easy for politicians to take some flak from the constituents, but if that pressure isn’t constantly applied, those in power will just wipe their brow and be thankful they were able to sidestep another issue. The party line is good enough only when we accept it, but it’s going to take the same indignation we’ve seen in those African countries if we can really start to expect accountability in our governments.

than simply filling one’s tummy. So farmers are finding interest in growing crops that fall into the health-conscious diet mode of the affluent. Now there is nothing wrong with the concept of consumers being concerned about the foods they eat, but it does change the rationale of growing certain crops. THE TRADER EXPRESS, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2011

By Samantha Mazzotta Broken Bulb Blues Q: I was trying to unscrew a burnt-out light bulb yesterday, which unfortunately stuck and then broke as I tried to force it to turn. I wasn’t hurt, but now I have a jagged remnant stuck in the socket. I’m afraid to turn that light on, but it’s the ceiling light in my den, and I’d really like to be able to work there. Any suggestions? Also, what do you think of those new fluorescent light bulbs? -Derek N., Youngstown, Ohio A: First, turn off the circuit breaker to that room to make sure no electricity is getting to the socket. Second, put on a sturdy work glove and place a wastebasket nearby to discard the bulb. Third, take a raw potato or a piece of soap. Cut the potato in half and trim to slightly larger than the diameter of the socket. Press the trimmed part of the potato or soap against the jagged edges of the broken bulb. Then, slowly turn counterclockwise to unscrew. You may need to brace the socket with your free hand or with a pair of needle-nose pliers if it tries to twist with the bulb. If this doesn’t work, contact an electrician to remove the bulb and inspect the socket for damage. As to your second question regarding CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) bulbs, well, they’re the wave of the future -- like it or not. The last U.S.manufactured incandescent light bulb rolled off the production lines last year. The ones on store shelves now are produced overseas. CFLs do produce the same amount of light while using significantly less power, so you may see a slight difference in your power bill if all your home’s bulbs are CFLs. The cost of a CFL is higher than that of

an incandescent bulb, but that price is coming down. Additionally, CFLs last much longer than incandescents, so you won’t be purchasing them as often. By the way, if you break a glass-coil CFL bulb, the soap/ potato trick isn’t effective. Wear sturdy work gloves and grip the socket and the small extension from which the CFL’s glass coil protruded and carefully unscrew it. THE TRADER EXPRESS, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2011

Saskatchewan undefeated at Scotties PROVINCIAL REGINA - The Saskatchewan government says it will be forced to abandon plans for a new stadium in Regina unless Ottawa approves funding by the end of February. Ken Cheveldayoff (SHEHV’-ahl-DAY’-off), minister responsible for the proposed multi-purpose facility, set the deadline in a letter to federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. Cheveldayoff says a land agreement with CP Rail at the proposed site of the $430-million stadium is about to lapse. The facility would replace Mosaic Stadium where the Canadian Football League Saskatchewan Roughriders now play. *** CHARLOTTETOWN - Ontario and Saskatchewan are on a collision course at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Rachel Homan’s Ottawa rink got past B.C.’s Kelly Scott 6-5 in Draw 8 action Monday night, while Regina’s Amber Holland downed Quebec’s MarieFrance Larouche 7-6. Ontario and Saskatchewan both sit at 5-0 and will face each other in Draw 10

play Tuesday afternoon. NATIONAL With the busiest stretch of events on the NHL schedule now completed, league executives are reaching for a cold one. Molson Canadian is set to become the official beer of the NHL as part of a sponsorship agreement announced Tuesday that is believed to be the most lucrative in league history. Terms of the seven-year

deal weren’t disclosed, but a source with knowledge of negotiations said it came in at slightly more than US$375 million. *** WHITEHORSE - Veteran sled-dog racer Hans Gatt won’t let a serious case of frostbite ruin his dream of winning the most important race of his career. But the Whitehorse resident admits more than 20 years of long distance mushing is enough and he’ll hang

up his racing sled after next month’s Iditarod in Alaska. Gatt is a four-time champion of the 1,600-kilometre Yukon Quest race between Whitehorse and Alaska, but was forced to quit the gruelling contest last week after plunging into chest deep water and suffering seconddegree frostbite to his hands. INTERNATIONAL WASHINGTON - After negotiating through the long holiday weekend, NFL and

the players’ union kept going Tuesday, undeterred by a blanket of snow and ice that slowed down the usual bustle of the nation’s capital. After months of infrequent — and sometimes contentious — bargaining, the league and union have been communicating faceto-face since Friday. The sessions are taking place in the office of George Cohen at a U.S. government agency about five blocks from the White House. *** NAGPUR, India - England’s batsmen kept their nerve to take their team to

a six-wicket win over the Netherlands on Tuesday and narrowly avoid a major humiliation at the World Cup. Ryan ten Doeschate had hit a career-high 119 to lead the unfavoured Dutch to 292-6 but opener Andrew Strauss gave his team a platform with 88 from 83 balls, equalling the highest score by an England captain at a World Cup. Jonathan Trott hit 62 at almost a run a ball but England still cut it fine, with Ravi Bopara hitting the winning runs with just eight balls remaining to take England to 296-4.

Canadians flee oil rig in Libya NATIONAL TORONTO - Chinese media are reporting that a low-ranking official accused of embezzling nearly 100 million yuan (C$14 million) has fled to Canada. The reports say Li Huabo, director of the economy and construction unit of Poyang Finance Bureau, arrived in Canada with his wife and two daughters late last month. The newspaper Global Times reported Monday that Huabo was under investigation and police are now trying to trace his location in Canada. The report says that the money Huabo is alleged to have embezzled was to be used for agricultural infrastructure, such as farmland renovation and reservoirs construction. *** HALIFAX - Three Canadians are apparently safe after fleeing with other oil workers into the Libyan desert when the drill rig they were working on was attacked by armed rebels. Gary Sutherland of Coldbrook, N.S., said Suncor (TSX:SU) told

the family late Monday that their son Glen and the other workers arrived safely at another of the oil company’s drill rigs in the Sahara Desert. He said Suncor told them it was looking to transport their son out of the desert and hopefully home. Sutherland said he and his wife are relieved the ordeal is over. ***

LEMON SESAME FISH STICKS No deep-fat frying is necessary for these crispy, lemony “fish sticks.” 1/2 Sunkist lemon, peel/zest and juice 1 1/2 pounds halibut, swordfish or shark steaks (3/4 to 1-inch thick), cut into 1-inch-wide strips 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seed 1/2 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon onion salt 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 1. Preheat oven to 500 F. Place a 13-by-9-by-2-inch baking dish in the oven to heat. Meanwhile, sprinkle the lemon peel/zest and juice over the fish. 2. In a shallow dish, combine cornmeal, flour, sesame seed, paprika and onion salt. Lightly coat fish with cornmeal mixture. Let stand for a few minutes for coating to set. 3. Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven; coat bottom of dish with oil. Dip fish in the oil, turning to coat all sides. 4. Bake, uncovered, 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly browned and fish flakes easily with a fork. (It is not necessary to turn the fish.) 5. Garnish with lemon wedges and parsley sprigs, if desired. Makes 4 servings. (Tips and recipe courtesy of Sunkist.com) *** Angela Shelf Medearis is known as The Kitchen Diva!
