Introduction Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (APAD)(Association of Artists of Various Resources) established in 1962, is an association of Singaporean Malay/Muslim Artists contributing towards the development and appreciation of visual arts through grassroots activities. This annual exhibition reflects the diversity in art practices and approaches of our multi-generation membership inspired by APAD’s long history. We pay tribute to the recently departed Abdul Ghani Hamid (13th April 1933 – 13th April 2014), with a showcase of selected works over his expansive artistic practice and contribution as APAD’s Founder, First President (1962 – 1983) and Advisor. This year’s exhibition comprises 37 artists, two of which are guest artists, Chen Sai Hua Kuan and Don Low. APAD is proud to welcome its new members and with the many different genre of artworks on show, it also creates an opportunity for the artists to interact and inspire one another.

Tribute To The Late Abdul Ghani Hamid Abdul Ghani Bin Abdul Hamid was Singapore’s most outstanding Malay poet-artist. He has produced many paintings of international standard and poems of high quality since 1948. He was one of the earliest proponents of Pablo Picasso in this region He was well known for his creation of controversial art piece in 1957 entitled ‘Mata dan Hati’ which means eyes and heart. The painting drew much polemical debates which lasted for a few years. He was the founder of Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya or Apad (Association of Artists of Various Resources) and was its first elected President at the age of 29 years from 1962 to 1983. Abdul Ghani received the ‘Tun Seri Lanang’ Award in 1997 and the Cultural Medallion in 1999.

To My Beloved Ones I watch you grow

When you gain success

to face challenges

observe the padi plant’s trait

confidently,

(it bends lower when it holds more rice)

my heart blooms hopefully.

but if you become disappointed

For all this while

do not beg.

I have been praying that

Be confident and honest

you will be competent

and pray for God’s blessings.

and steadfast.

You are self-reliant
