Welcome to the Beauty Bible.

And we don’t just mean the best new makeup buys or trends to try (although there’ll be plenty of that on p8 and p23), we’re opening up conversations about what beauty means to different people - because there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, right?

That’s why you’ll find interviews with a number of our favourite women pioneering beauty movements in different forms, including Love Island’s Ekin-Su (p14), disability activist and model, Georgia Meacham (p36), and Dexter: Original Sin star, Raquel Justice (p24).

But that’s not all. In this issue you’ll also find an in-depth read into the benefits of somatic healing (p74), your guide to the best places to solo travel as a woman (p48), and of course, our picks of this summer’s fashion trends, straight from the runway (p58).

So, grab your favourite product, sit back, and remember: beauty isn’t a trend or a standard - it’s about you rewriting the rules.

FINDING CONFIDENCE AGAIN

Look Good Feel Better are at the forefront of improving the lives of those facing cancer treatment through their innovative beauty workshops

98% OF CANCER PATIENTS SAID THEY WOULD RECOMMEND LOOK GOOD FEEL BETTER’S SERVICES TO SOMEONE GOING THROUGH CANCER TREATMENT

Look Good Feel Better, a UK-wide specialist cancer support charity, is dedicated to helping people manage the cosmetic impact of their cancer treatment; supporting wellbeing, confidence, and empowerment.

This year, the charity is launching four new, innovative face-to-face workshops designed to address currently unmet needs within the cancer communityand help more people than ever before.

HERE’S A CLOSER LOOK AT WHAT’S COMING THIS YEAR…

Supporting Those Facing Cancer-Related Hair Loss

Look Good Feel Better recently announced its merger with HeadWrappers, an organisation specialising in support for individuals

experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment. This workshop is designed to provide practical guidance on scalp care, wig selection, and styling, with the goal of helping participants feel comfortable and confident throughout their treatment. This workshop is available to book now.

Styling For Confidence

In an exciting new partnership with John Lewis Partners, Look Good Feel Better has now launched the pilot phase of its brand new face-to-face Styling For Confidence workshops. These workshops are dedicated to helping individuals affected by cancer adjust to their changing bodies and rebuild self-confidence, as well as to help them rediscover a sense of normalcy. Currently the UK’s only cancer support service of its kind, this workshop focuses on supporting people in managing significant weight changes, intrusive surgeries, amputations, and stoma bags resulting from cancer, through practical styling advice and emotional support.

Livia Evans, Innovation Lead for John Lewis & Partners shares; “We are very happy to work with this amazing charity to develop the Styling for Confidence workshops. John Lewis’s purpose promise is ‘Working in Partnership for a Happier World’. We hope that these workshops will show the attendees support, and bring a little joy and light during challenging times.”

Men’s Support

Another brand new workshopcurrently in its pilot phase - is a Men’s Support workshop, designed to help men navigate changes in appearance and overall health during their cancer treatment. These workshops will offer a safe, inclusive space, with a focus on skincare, grooming, clothing, nutrition, and fitness. This new programme recognises that men often approach self-care differently, providing a tailored service that ensures they feel seen, heard, and supported throughout their treatment. By addressing unique needs, these workshops aim to provide vital support during one of life’s most challenging times.

Hand & Nail Care During Cancer

This year will also see the launch of a face-to-face Hand and Nail Care programme, providing expert advice and practical tips. Developed in response to the overwhelming demand for the charity’s online nail

care sessions, these workshops will focus on managing common side effects of cancer treatment, such as dry, split, or sensitive nails, as well as nail loss, ridges, and discolouration.

Why Your Support Matters

The launch of these new workshops represents a significant opportunity for Look Good Feel Better to support more individuals than ever before - though it requires substantial resources, training, and outreach. Expanding access also involves implementing innovative strategies to reach those who might otherwise be unable to benefit from these services, whether through online platforms or tailored community initiatives. By scaling these efforts, the aim is to empower even more people to face the challenges of cancer treatment with confidence and resilience.

Practical beauty solutions are having their moment, and transfer-proof lipsticks and liners have become a must-have in every makeup kit. Peel-off stains even mean you can opt for more dramatic lip colours without fear of someone pointing it out on your teeth a little later on. Simply apply the stain, wait for it to dry, peel off, and there you have it - a perfectly-tinted pout.

Where 2024 was the year of manicure minimalism, 2025 is making up for in celestial patterns and shimmering pops of colour. This trend has already taken over Pinterest, and now everyone is warming up to these intricate designs. Baby blue and gold are a winning combination.

PANTHENOL CREAM - 145% increase in searches

When we all have such different skin types and textures, it’s difficult to come across any one-size-fits-all product. That could be why panthenol, a Vitamin B5 derivative, has become increasingly popular, because of its ability to both soothe and hydrate, while tackling irritation. Skin trend predictions also suggest more people will pare back their lengthy skincare routines this year, and instead opt for products that are multipurpose and still get the job done. Watch this space.

Salon-quality shine and a blowout finish is not an easy task to achieve at home, but you may have noticed hair glosses are suddenly lining the shelves of beauty stores. That’s because these part-nourishing, part-styling products deliver where a standard shampoo and conditioner can’t. In-shower glosses coat each strand of hair delivering shine and softness with every wash, helping your locks look and feel healthier, and making your colour pop - even if it’s overdue a top-up.

Nodding to the quiet luxury trend, hairstyles packed with volume and edge are taking centre stage over more sleek looks this year - and a texture powder is going to be your best friend. EKIN-SU Cülcüloğlu is no longer just a name - she’s become a reality TV titan off the back of her appearance on Love Island in 2022 (which she subsequently won), and has since carved a personal brand that has taken her to new heights both on and off screen.

Born in London and raised by Turkish parents, she first got involved in beauty pageants as a teenager, before stepping into the acting world in 2020 - two years before she’d become a firm favourite on everyone’s go-to dating show.

She’s since secured a number of major brand deals (including becoming the face of BPerfect), and even debated on behalf of the influencer community at Oxford University. Could she finally be the reality star we’ve all been waiting for?

Fresh from her second stint in the villa on Love Island: All Stars, the 30-year-old spills all to BLUSH on her unforgettable rise to the top, while remaining unapologetically herself.

You’ve returned to Love Island again, three years after your original appearance - what has the response been like?

The response has been overwhelming. I’m really grateful for the support and excitement from fans,

and that people have understood that you can want a second chance at love. I’ve always believed that the journey doesn’t end with one chapter and sometimes, you need to return, learn, and grow to find what truly makes you happy.

“BEING IN THE GLARE OF THE CAMERAS CAN FEEL LIKE A LOT, AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A SOLID SAFETY NET IN PLACE FOR PEOPLE”

You’re no stranger to highs and lows in the show. What are the biggest lessons it taught you?

The biggest thing has been the self-growth I’ve been through. The villa is such a small space that you actually learn a lot about yourself, especially as you’re mingling with people from different backgrounds. That’s often why you see clashes and drama, but it’s also a place where you learn to become patient and accept people as they are. Everyone in there is so unique and brings something different to the table. I learnt to embrace a lot of things about myself that I didn’t before I entered the villa this time, and that includes becoming more positive about my own body, and accepting myself too. I was in a bikini for two months and for once, I felt comfortable enough to show my hip dips - they’re beautiful and I didn’t appreciate them enough before.

Hours and hours of footage gets condensed down into onehour episodes, which is what the public get to see. What’s something about filming Love Island that fans might not know?

That it doesn’t always look like it does on screen! The bits that make it into the show are all the glam and fun parts, but behind the scenes it’s different. There are moments where there’s lots of emotion and vulnerability, and we have a lot of heart-to-hearts - as well as just being carefree and making each other laugh all the time. The whole villa experience is a rollercoaster of emotions and you do genuinely bond with the people you’re in there with. I’ve made friends for life, and there’s so many conversations I’ve had that never made it into the final edit.

“GOING BACK ON LOVE ISLAND WAS ABOUT GIVING MYSELF A SECOND CHANCE TO REWRITE MY STORY AND TO FORM A CONNECTION WITH SOMEONE NEW”

You’ve mentioned previously that as your social media following grows, you feel more pressure. Why did you want to put yourself back in the spotlight of Love Island?

When the chance to return and appear on All Stars came up, it felt like the right time for me. Going back was about giving myself a second chance to rewrite my story and to form a connection with someone new. I felt a lot more prepared this time because I know who I am and I’m more confident in myself. I just wanted to show a different side of me, one that’s grown a lot since the last time I was in the villa.

You’ve done a number of reality shows – Dancing On Ice, Celebrity Big Brother, Love Island - which one have you enjoyed most? Or is there one you perhaps haven’t done yet that you’d be down for?

They’re all completely different, but Love Island still has a special place in my heart because that’s where my journey started. Stepping into the villa the first time really pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me so much.

There are a few shows I haven’t done yet that I think would be fun to try, maybe something a bit more daring. However, I am keen to try out more hosting and move into scripted TV. I think it would be a natural fit for me, and I’d really like to make that happen this year.

Having achieved so much over the last few years, do you ever wish that you lived a low-key life again?

Oh, for sure, there are moments when I miss the simple, low-key days. But then I remember how much I thrive on the energy and buzz of being in the spotlight. If I wasn’t doing this, you’d probably find me writing, or working on a creative project where I can express every little bit of who I am, that the camera doesn’t always capture.

Even when my life gets overwhelming or I have a really busy schedule, I’m just so grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way.

What excites me most is the chance to give back. I’m particularly excited about the work I’m doing with the British Red Cross and everything that’s planned for the year with them - I’m really proud to be part of it.

Conversations around welfare for reality TV contestants have been growing over the last few years. Do you think there’s enough support out there for people like yourself landing in the spotlight for the first time?

I think the focus on mental health and making sure everyone on Love Island - or any reality show - is getting the support they need is a shift that needs to happen.

“I WISH PEOPLE KNEW THAT THOSE CATCHY HEADLINES BARELY SCRATCH THE SURFACE OF WHO I AM”

Shining a light on it is a great step forward, but honestly, I still think we can do better.

Being in the glare of the cameras can feel like a lot, and there needs to be a solid safety net in place for people to turn to. When you come out of the villa it can be overwhelming, and that’s a really strange feeling.

It’s hard not to read negative comments about yourself on the internet because we use social media all the time, and these comments are sometimes impossible to ignore!

I do think I’ve grown a thick skin since the first time I was on Love Island, and I’ve now been able to ignore the negativity and move past it. I make sure to prioritise my mental health and practice self-care to keep myself feeling positive. That can be as simple as doing things I love and spending time with the people that matter the most.

What do you wish you could tell the Ekin that was at the beginning of her journey on TV?

My confidence has skyrocketed! I’ve learned to embrace every bit of me—the good, the messy, and everything in between. If I could have a little chat with young Ekin, I’d say, “Girl, trust your gut, you’re always enough, and every little challenge is just a stepping stone to the fabulous person you’re becoming. Embrace the journey, babe, it’s all part of the magic.”

What’s one thing you wish people really knew about the headlines they read about you?

I just wish people knew that those catchy headlines barely scratch the surface of who I am.

There’s so much more to me than what goes in the media, and some headlines have caught me off-guard. I always hope that people who read them do take them with a pinch of salt and see the real me behind it. I’m just working hard on myself and to build my career.

Despite any backlash you’ve faced, you seem to remain confident and outgoing. How do you still manage to find that confidence in more challenging times?

My amazing circle of friends, family, and supporters are the ones who lift me up and remind me every day how fabulous I truly am.

I try not to let the haters get under my skin because their negativity often says more about them than it does about me. There will always be trolls - the secret is not to give them any attention or let them get to you. I focus on celebrating every win, learning from every setback, and simply enjoying my own journey - that’s what keeps me going!

“TRUE BEAUTY IS ALL ABOUT BEING UNAPOLOGETICALLY YOU. DON’T GET CAUGHT UP IN NARROW TRENDS AND STANDARDS”

Have you always had that kind of confidence?

I haven’t always been confident, but over time, I’ve learned to accept myself and that includes every part of me - flaws and all.

People often think I’m confident and that it’s all down to looks, but exercise and a healthy lifestyle make me feel strong and empowered as well.

One of the biggest things I’ve also learned is to avoid comparing myself to others. Everyone’s on their own path, and I’ve realised that my confidence comes from staying true to myself and focusing on my own journey. Confidence isn’t a destination; it’s something I nurture every day, and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come.

Is there anyone you idolise or look up to as a source of empowerment?

I’m constantly inspired by a whole tribe of fierce, amazing women who keep it real and own their power. It’s not just one person, it’s ladies who’ve overcome their own challenges and continue to shine. Their stories remind me to be fearless, to stand tall, and to never let anyone dim my sparkle. I want to bring that same energy to everything I do, whether it’s hosting, acting, or just being unapologetically me.

You went through a very public break-up. What have you learnt from being single?

I’ve never seen being single as a negative thing, and instead it’s been a journey of self-discovery. I’ve grown to truly enjoy enjoy my own company and to love myself fiercely. There’s always more to learn about balancing my career ambitions with personal growth, and I’m excited to keep exploring that.

In five years, I see myself continuing

to grow and hopefully finding a love that supports the amazing life I’m building. It’s all about growing and glowing from the inside out.

You’ve also transformedcompletely your image since the first time we saw you on TV. How do you think your perception of beauty has changed over time?

My perception of beauty has definitely evolved over time. When I first went on Love Island I was more focused on external beauty, and what I, and other people looked like. Yet now I’ve learned that true beauty is about feeling good inside and out, and that beauty isn’t just on the surface. I’ve realised that wellness practices are just as important as any beauty routine. A good amount of sleep, a solid workout, and a facial are now key parts of my routine that make me feel and look my best. Taking care of my body, both physically and mentally, has also really changed my perspective on beauty. It’s not just about looking good, it’s about feeling good, showing kindness, and owning every part of yourself that lets that innerconfidence truly shine through.

What does your beauty routine look like right now?

My beauty routine has evolved to be simpler, but still effective. Right now, I focus on three skincare secrets that keep my skin glowing. Firstly, I steam my face regularly, which helps open up my pores and gives my skin a refreshed, clean feeling. Secondly, I use cucumber juice, which is so hydrating and soothing for my skin, leaving it feeling cool and nourished. Lastly, I incorporate LED light therapy into my routine, which helps to boost collagen production and improve my skin’s overall texture.

What message would you love to pass on to other women going on their own journeys of self-love?

I’d say, “True beauty is all about being unapologetically you. Don’t get caught up in trends or narrow standards. Beauty is really about authenticity and kindness. Embrace your uniqueness, be totally confident in your own skin, and always remember that your inner-sparkle is what truly makes you special.”

However, the advice I would give to any young women looking to pursue their dreams and build their confidence is to put yourself first and know that your dreams are never too big or small. They can be achieved if you work hard and are smart, rather than focusing on what you look like or how you style yourself. Just stay grounded, humble, and focused, and you will get there. Confidence and self-love are the most beautiful qualities you can nurture, and they will radiate from the inside-out. I’d also tell them not to compare themselves to anyone, because no one is you.

Beautybuzzwords:

THERAPY LED LIGHT

It’s the clinical secret behind Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian’s supple skin - and now we can all do it at home

The

light therapy lowdown

LED light therapy (or red light therapy, as you might have heard it as), is a non-invasive skincare treatment that uses low-level wavelengths of infrared light to treat a variety of skin conditions.

it used to be reserved as a pricey in-clinic treatment used by professionals as every celebrity’s pre-red carpet secret weapon. But now, the rise of at-home masks has seen the internet go wild for its benefits. Ever seen someone on social media looking suspiciously like Michael Myers with a red, halo glow around their face? Yep, that’s a light therapy mask.

From acne, to hyperpigmentation, and even helping fight against wrinkles and boosting collagen, implementing light therapy into your daily routine (all it takes is a 10-minute session) can help you see results from the sofa - there’s no downtime either.

How do I know which mask is right for me?

LED light therapy masks vary in price greatly, and this can come down to a variety of factors. Things you should look out for are the number of LEDs in the mask (which generally ranges from 125-250), and the power of them (usually 400-800nm).

But, don’t be fooled, some masks are pricier purely because they’re from a luxury brand that’s trying to live up to its name - if you read the fine print, their technology can often be the same as less-expensive alternatives.

WHO IS LED LIGHT THERAPY NOT SUITABLE FOR?

LED light therapy is generally considered safe, but you should avoid it if you’re using any medications (including creams) that make you sensitive to sunlight - including lithium, or tretinoin. If you’ve recently had Botox or fillers, wait at least five days since your treatment to use your mask. Always do your own research if you’re not sure!

PSA

Start out small with 1-2 10-minute sessions each week to give your skin chance to get used to the treatment, before upping it to four times per week

You should start to feel the effects straight away, but will need to use it consistently to achieve your long-term glow

While you might have only just started hearing about it, it’s actually been around since the 90s, and was first used to treat wounds on NASA astronauts in space - impressive stuff.

As it emerged into the beauty world,

Devices often also come with multiple settings dependent on your desired result - red light helps fight fine lines and improve skin plumpness, blue can eliminate acne-causing bacteria, and green is perfect for hyperpigmentationor simply unwinding after a long day.

Of course, at-home masks are not yet as powerful as what the professionals use, so if you’re enjoying it - why not book in for a session as a treat?

Beauty Of Joseon

As pioneers of the ‘glass skin’ trend, there’s little wonder that demand for K-Beauty is increasing 10% year-on-year, with the industry forecasted to reach $18 billion by 2030. Beauty Of Joseon is quickly becoming a major player in the space. They’re offering up clean and effective skincare, combining a mixture of modern ingredients with traditional Korean hanbang - like ginseng and rice. 2025 is about to be a very good skin year.

Kosas

While Kosas has been around since 2015 in the US, it’s only been available in the UK for almost two years - and it was timed perfectly ready for the ‘clean girl’ trend to dominate social media. The brand specialises in makeup for people who actually care about their skin, and their products have been clinically-proven to improve skin over time.

Hue Skincare

A problem long-ignored by the beauty industry, Hue Skincare is disrupting how products are sold to Black and Brown women. Research suggests multi-ethnic consumers in the UK spend 25% more on health and beauty products - because put simply, their skin reacts differently to white skin. Hue launched with its SUPRA-FADE serum, containing active ingredients to target hyperpigmentation, and has gone on to have waitlists of over 6,000 people keen to get a slice of the action.

Rizos Curls

Rizos Curls is a much-loved Latina-owned haircare brand that celebrates the beauty of curls, coils, and waves, and we’re slowly seeing it start to pop up around the UK. It’s thought that 60-70% of the world’s population has texture to their hair, so it’s about time we showed it some love, right? Oh, and all of their products are silicone and paraben-free, so you’re optimising your hair health too.

Rhode Beauty

The Dexter: Original Sin star is carving the path for the next generation of Hollywood - and the future is bright

WHEN Raquel Justice sat in an audition techniques class as part of her degree as a theatre major, she never could’ve predicted that a casual chat about castings for a new Dexter spin-off would be just the start of propelling her into one of the biggest TV shows of the year - in just a matter of weeks.

The iconic drama-mystery that first captivated audiences in 2007 has now returned with its prequel, Original Sin. Enter 20-year-old Justice, who went from being a student to top TV talent almost overnight, landing the role of Sofia, the first love interest of Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson).

“I’m probably going to get booed for this — I didn’t know what Dexter was before that day,” she confesses, reflecting on how she landed the role - but fear not, she’s since gone back and rewatched the original show.

“When I mentioned the opportunity, my whole class was like, ‘What? That’s so crazy. No way. This is so cool.’ And I sat there like, ‘Wait, what is this? Everyone my age knows what this is!’”

She adds of the moment she began to get excited about its potential: “When I realised it had a star cast including Patrick Dempsey, Sarah Michelle Gellar - I was like, ‘I gotta get this!’”

The role that brought the San Diego native to our screens (aside from her Celebrity Wife Swap cameo with her dad, David Justice) was on Disney Channel’s Andi Mack in 2017. Since then, she’s gone on to star in projects like Quantum Leap and Finding Tony, before landing a role on the Paramount+ hit.

“Andi Mack is the one that I get recognised from the most still, six years later from when I wrapped it - hey, listen, it was the top-rated Disney show at the time”, Justice jokes.

“I think it’s so funny sometimes, because I was 13 years old back then and like - do I look the same? Do I need to be doing something differently to look more like a grown up?”

However, it was Original Sin that introduced her to some of Hollywood’s most-respected stars - both old and new.

“I worked with Patrick Gibson a lot, a lot of Molly Brown - I love her, she’s so awesome.”

“I actually never got to meet Patrick Dempsey, which kills me inside, because I’m such a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan”, she tells BLUSH

“I got to kind-of speak to him at the table read, because he was on a zoom call. It felt like a missed opportunity! Maybe if there’s a season two…”

However, despite getting up-close-andperson with them, there was one secret the 20-year-old was keeping while filming was underway.

She quips: “I didn’t tell anybody my age because I didn’t want to be treated differently, I didn’t want to be treated like a child. I eventually told people around week five and no one believed me.”

Despite her obvious passion for film and writing, it’s surprising that it doesn’t run in Justice’s family. In fact, sports fans will know her dad as former-Major League Baseball star, David Justice, and her brother is heavily-involved in American football.

“I played every sport under the sun growing up. I’m very athletic, I just didn’t have a passion for it, that wasn’t my thing”, she says when quizzed on whether she would’ve followed in their footsteps instead of acting.

“I was more into making little home horror movie videos and making my cousins lie on the ground with blood all over them.”

“I definitely don’t take acting advice from them because that would be like me trying to give my brother advice on football, but I do take a lot of advice on their work ethic”, she adds.

“Whether it was acting or writing, or whatever we wanted to do, we always felt very supported - so I take advice on how to show up in the world - how to be Raquel…not Raquel the actor.”

While Justice insists that she can’t see herself doing anything but acting and writing, she does divulge another dream scenario.

“If I wasn’t doing this I’d probably run off to Italy and open a bookstore with a speakeasy…I love reading, I’d write a lot of stories”, she tells us, recommending a whole host of books she’s loving right now, which include the Throne Of Glass series, and Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael

“I’m a very creative mind. I would never be able to sit down and do an office job - I’d drive myself crazy.”

“FILM

CAN LIVE FOREVER

BUT SO DOES YOUR FOOTPRINT HERE - THAT’S WHAT REALLY MATTERS”

But that might have to remain firmly on pause for now, because positive reviews are in full-force for Dexter: Original Sin, and Justice is already being tipped to have a bright future ahead.

“I’ve gotten so much appreciation for my acting, and I think hearing that you’re accepted from people that you wouldn’t normally think you would be, that helps you breathe through the other not-so-nice comments”, she says, hinting that she’s hopeful another season could be on the cards.

“This is the first time on a set where I’ve truly been advocating for myself. I had to make sure that my voice was always heard and not be afraid to ask for help, and not be afraid to get advice.

“I don’t have many actor friends, I don’t get treated any differently - my cousin still bullied the hell out of me! No one cares about what I do, they care that I’m passionate about what I do - that I succeed.”

On handling criticism in an industry where rejection is rife and the anonymity of the internet can encourage negativity,

she notes: “Something I used to struggle with was feeling like my self-worth was determined by if I was given a role, or if people thought I was good or not.

“I’ve learnt as I’ve grown that I shouldn’t take insults from people that I wouldn’t ask advice from. I never had a false reality of what this industry looks like though, and there’s nastiness that can come with it.”

It’s clear Justice is very much focused on staying grounded and influencing change in the industry that she’s still relatively new to. Between takes she can be found

learning how other jobs work on set, or building relationships with her co-stars. However, this is just the start.

“I actually have a whole list of actors that I wrote down of some of the people I take inspiration from”, she admits, before pulling out a long iPhone note containing the names of her dream co-stars, which include Robert Pattinson.

“I think he’s an incredible actor”, she says. “I just love people with range - like the Saoirse [Ronan]’s, the Florence Pughs, Lupita Nyong’o. I also love Emma Stone. I think there’s such rawness to her acting and such a genuine nature to it.

“Starring alongside James McAvoy in some type of thriller or horror movie would be my dream. I think any actor who is able to transform completely into different characters and be able to separate their work I look up to so much, because that’s what I want to do.”

What sets Raquel Justice apart from many other actors is not only her work, but her unwavering commitment to speaking out on the social issues that matter most to her—whether it’s the Black Lives Matter movement or abortion rights.

While others might shy away from controversial topics that could invite criticism, Justice is determined to make her impact beyond the screen, using her voice to spark essential conversations.

“I’ve never been raised to stay silent,” she shares. “I’ve always been an outspoken person, with strong opinions about what I believe is right and wrong. I’ll never back down when it comes to speaking up about things I’m passionate about.”

“I thought coming into this world everyone would take the golden rule as the law: Treat others how you want to be treated. But obviously as you grow up you slowly see the truth.

“As both a woman of colour and a woman in general, it’s hard for me to feel like I can be silent, because these things affect me - I’m not just doing it for goodI’m doing it for me too. I’m doing it so I can have opportunities in this world that I crave without any type of restraint or fear.”

She adds: “When you have even the slightest following, it’s so important to put the right information out there, especially in this day and age, when things get misconstrued so easily. I don’t expect everyone to say ‘oh yeah, she’s right’ - some people may disagree with me and that’s completely ok too.”

That sentiment echoes across the film industry too. We chat candidly about navigating success as a woman of colour - only 3.7% of leads and co-leads in the top grossing films from 2009 - 2019 were played by Black women - but Justice appears optimistic that change is coming.

“SZA and Keke Palmer’s movie (One Of Them Days) just came out and it’s been responded to really well - this is the first time I’ve really seen two black women as lead roles in their own movie that they created that’s funny, well put together, and it’s well-received and it’s celebrated”, she says.

“A change I would love to see in this industry is the way we tell the stories of women of colour. I think a lot of the time minorities get their stories out there, which is amazing, but it always shows a lot of pain or addresses a lot of stereotypes.

“We need to learn that sometimes it can just be a comedy movie, or a Black woman can just be the lead in a romance.”

She takes some time to reflect on her own future, which Justice hopes will involve starting her own film production company eventually, and spending more time on writing her own scripts (one of which she’s already made a start on).

“I’m an overthinker! I always sit in my bed like ‘when I died, what am I going to leave behind?’”, she laughs.

“I would love to have made an impact as well as a well-rounded body of work that I loved - opening doors and creating opportunities for the girls that come after me is super important.

“I just want to make a change in a way that’s more than through film, because film can live forever, but so does your footprint here - that’s what really matters.”

Laura’s story

38-year-old Laura Robilliard shares her experience after being diagnosed with cancer - and the road to rebuilding her confidence again

DIAGNOSED with stage 3 breast cancer on her 38th birthday while in the midst of balancing her career and raising her one-year-old daughter, Laura found confidence and connection through a Look Good Feel Better workshop - a small, yet transformative moment during one of the toughest chapters of her life.

She speaks to us candidly about her experience, in the hopes it will help others that might be faced with the same reality.

Laura’s cancer story…

“At the time, I had a one-year-old daughter, and my diagnosis was incredibly hard, not just for me, but for

my husband, sister, parents, extended family, friends, and colleagues. It felt like life had completely shifted overnight. A nurse mentioned the Look Good Feel Better workshops, and I decided to give one a try as a way to focus on something positive and rebuild some confidence during treatment.”

How did attending Look Good Feel Better’s confidencebuilding beauty workshop support your recovery?

“The workshop was a true gift during a really challenging time. It felt so supportive and uplifting, and I was able to take some time for myself. Learning practical tips for dealing with the visible side effects of treatment made a big difference - I started to feel more like ‘me’ again.

“But even more than that, being surrounded by others who truly understood what I was going through created a sense of community and connection that I hadn’t realised I needed. It gave me both confidence and comfort, which helped carry me through treatment. It’s a little moment of normality and positivity in what can feel like a really overwhelming time.”

Since receiving the news that there is “no evidence of disease”, how have you found the process of navigating “life after cancer”?

“Hearing those words was an incredible relief, but I’ve found that life after cancer brings its own challenges. There’s so much gratitude for this second chance, but also a lot to process emotionally. I’m learning to rebuild trust in my body and adjust to a new version of normal while trying to balance all of the other roles in my life - being a mum, wife, daughter,

sister, and friend. It’s a journey, but I’m incredibly thankful to be here.”

Laura’s words of encouragement for anyone else facing cancer…

“To anyone going through this, remember that you’re not alone and that it’s ok to ask for help - it doesn’t make you weak. It’s a hard journey, and it’s normal to feel scared or unsure, but you’re stronger than you think. Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you, and take things one step at a time. Whether you’re just starting treatment or figuring out life after cancer, give yourself grace, and celebrate every little win along the way. There’s hope ahead, and brighter days will come.”

PERFECT MATCH

Gen Z are saying goodbye to love triangles and hello to a new trend - dating with intention - you in?

GHOSTING, breadcrumbing, orbiting, benching - if it’s got an ‘ing’ at the end, it’s likely already had its moment as a dating trend, and

frankly, we’re exhausted.

There’s little wonder that ‘dating with intention’ is now a term we’re seeing used more frequently on social media by daters who just want to get their s*** togetherbut is it really a good thing?

There are over 11 million dating app users in the UK alone, and let’s face it, most people who have downloaded one usually have a really bad story to tell. Whether it’s a catfish, a boring texter, or just simply navigating someone who won’t communicate what they want (thousands of potential matches are just a swipe away, after all), it’s clear we’re all ready for radical change on the dating scene.

Ready to make the most of your dates in 2025? We’ve got Dating & Boundaries Media Expert, Michelle Elman on hand to get you prepared and help make your next date a good one.

‘Dating with intention’ is something we’re hearing more about - but what does it mean?

“Someone who’s dating with intention is likely looking to secure a long-term partnership (often marriage) out of dating, and not interested in pursuing anything casual. The idea is to date with a very clear set of traits and characteristics you’re looking for.

“A potential issue could be that this is often quite a closed mindset to have, and whilst it’s positive to get clear on what you want, it is often unhelpful to see anything other than securing ‘the one’ as a failure!”

What are the biggest dating shifts or trends you’re expecting to see in 2025?

“The biggest shift is that people are getting off dating apps and going to more in-person events. There is definitely dating app fatigue nowwe’ve become aware that algorithms suppress your reach. Looking further into the future, I think we’re going to see more personalised matchmaking, especially as we are all so pressed for time.

“Groups or clubs where you see each other weekly or monthly often takes the pressure off asking people out, and gives you a chance to get to know people slowly - like an exercise class or a book club.”

“BEING IN A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP CAN TEACH YOU A LOT ABOUT SELF-LOVE”

If you’re stepping into the world of dating - how do you figure out what you want?

“By dating! Unlike the idea of dating with intention, I believe if you enter

the dating world with curiosity and see every date as a success, every date ends up providing information about what you are looking for.

“Even the dates that don’t work out help you figure out exactly what you aren’t looking for too.

“Being in a healthy relationship can teach you a lot about self-love. “However, working on your self-esteem will increase your chance of being able to have healthy relationships.”

You read endless stories about dating app disasters - is this generation doomed to find love?

“Absolutely not! The stories we hear are no different to stories that were happening before of people meeting in clubs and bars.

“The only difference now is with social media, we aren’t just hearing the bad stories of our small, inner-circle, but we are hearing those of the whole world. Plus, negative stories get more clicks and engagement than the positive stories online.”

3.

Remove prompts about liking travel or hating pineapple on pizza and put something that would actually turn someone off. If it’s not specific enough to turn someone off, then it’s also not specific enough to turn someone on.

DATING PROFILE NO-GOS

“Don’t use photos where I can’t tell which one you are or I can’t see your face. Putting misleading, inaccurate, or outdated photos is also a big no.”

THIS IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU COULD BE MAKING

“Daters focus so much on changing their appearance and not enough on changing their negative patterns. Ask yourself if you would date you and that will illuminate what you need to work on!”

HOW TO HAVE THE AWKWARD CONVERSATION, WHEN YOU’RE JUST NOT FEELING IT

“Embrace the fear and let it be a messy conversation. Saying less is more. You don’t need to insult them, but you do need to communicate that it’s over. No ghosting!”

BEAUTY Rewriting

Meet the model who hid her deafness for 12 years, and is now on a mission to encourage other women to share their differences

GEORGIA Meacham has graced the runways of Fashion Week, appeared in Vogue, built a 100,000-strong social media community, and hit the red carpet for some of the biggest film premieres of the decade. But scrolling back through the snaps from these career-affirming moments, you’d have no inkling that she’d been hiding the deafness she’s experienced from 17 months old - with her hearing aids nowhere to be seen.

The 31-year-old model made the headlines just one year ago when she “came out” as deaf, and revealed she’d been relying on lip-reading throughout her 12-year career, in a bid to keep her disability a secret.

With 23% of women in the UK identifying as having a disability, but with little representation in the media growing up, the Hertfordshire native grew to be ashamed of being different - and is now on a mission to stop other young women going down the same path, by embracing her deafness.

“My mum was comparing me to my older brother and would notice simple things - they’d be calling my name and I just wouldn’t turn around or look at them”, she recalls.

Hearing loss isn’t genetic in her family, but after failing two hearing tests, it became clear that she had ‘moderate to severe’ deafness, and got fitted with hearing aids before reaching her second birthday.

“BEAUTY ISN’T ONEDIMENSIONAL. IN FACT, IT’S ENHANCED BY THE ADVERSITY THAT YOU’VE FACED, OR ANY UNIQUE TRAITS THAT YOU HAVE”

As the second-born child, Georgia says her parents soon noticed that something was wrong with her hearing as a baby.

“It’s all I’ve ever known”, she tells BLUSH. “I didn’t realise there was something slightly different about me until I went to school, and instead of going out to play with the other kids during lunchtimes, I’d be having sessions with my speech therapist, which is a huge part of growing up deaf.

Credit: Lateef Photography
Credit: Hettie Pearson Photography

“Having that speech therapy was essential in not having a communication barrier with the hearing world. I did have the choice whether to learn sign language or learn to speak, and of course, my parents wanted the best opportunity for me.”

Without hearing aids, she relies on lip reading, and even with them, like for many deaf people, sound is only amplified, and it isn’t a total fix.

“THERE’S BEEN SO MANY CAREER MOMENTS THAT I HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO FULLY ENJOY OVER THE YEARS, BECAUSE I’VE JUST HAD THIS WEIGHT ON MY SHOULDERS”

That being said, Georgia was still very much the only deaf-identifying person in her school, which came with its own challenges. “I think when you’re young it’s always easier, because kids are very accepting and they don’t realise that what you have isn’t the norm”, she says.

“I didn’t know anyone else who was deaf as a young adult and didn’t

have role models - I knew people’s grandparents had hearing aids, but it was always older people. You never saw people on TV or in films that had them either.”

“It’s when you become a teenager, that’s when you want to fit in, or become part of the cool crew - and the way to do that is by being similar to everyone else, so that’s when I struggled. I had to wear my hair up, so there was no way to hide my hearing aids either.

“Also, I’m six foot tall - so I stood out in all the other ways as well! When I was bullied, it wasn’t necessarily because of my hearing aids - I had all of these other traits that attract bullies too.”

But it wasn’t until she headed to university and her career began to skyrocket that she felt shame around her differences.

She was signed to a modelling agency at 18 years old, and soon enough, was getting booked for huge shoots with the likes of Stella McCartney and Ted Bakerexcept, she’d remove her hearing aids and shove them into her bag before heading onto set, relying on lip reading to get by.

“Even five years ago, the beauty standard was so specific”, she says of the experience. “There was no room for any sort of difference, especially in the modelling industry, which is the most visual, and most judgmental industry anyone could be in.

“I was thrown into that world, and the only way that I thought that I could succeed was to not show that side of myself. People just weren’t as openminded back then.”

Despite the success she’d dreamed of manifesting, getting to travel for work, seeing herself on billboards, and gaining a loyal following on social media, she secretly felt the pressure of hiding who she truly was for so long.

“I was on one of the biggest shoots of my career a couple of years ago, it was such a great team, everyone was laughing on set. But I just felt like I couldn’t get involved in conversations because I didn’t have my hearing aids in, and I just walked away and felt like I wasn’t myself”, she says.

“There’s been so many career moments that I haven’t really been able to fully enjoy over the years, because I’ve just had this weight on my shoulders.”

Still, at that time, models with visible disabilities featured in only 0.02% of fashion campaigns, so making the decision to “come out” to the world wasn’t an easy one.

Nonetheless, in May 2024, Georgia finally broke the mould and took to Instagram with a lengthy statement detailing how she’d spent her adult life “avoiding sitting at the front of rooms, not requesting subtitles, and never asking friends to sit in quieter areas of restaurants” - but no longer wanted to hide from it.

She’s since been signed to a modelling agency exclusively for people who identify as having a disability, and credits other disability advocates including Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri and blind content creator, Lucy Edwards, for helping her feel confident enough to take the step.

community, and I didn’t feel part of the hearing community. I was just in this middle zone. There should always be space for everybody.”

But above all, Georgia has no regrets, and although she’s been booked and busy giving panel talks and appearing on podcasts sharing her story, she’s already focused on her next big move.

“I’m just really looking forward to getting back on set as a model”, she concludes. “I want to be able to wear my hearing aids and hear everything - you know, the simple things. I want everyone to see them for once, I want to be the voice for the voiceless.”

She adds of what the last year has taught her: “Beauty isn’t onedimensional. In fact, it’s enhanced by the adversity that you’ve faced, or any unique traits that you have.

It’s not eroded by them. I think it’s really important to remember that. The more you show up as yourself and you shine in your own individual way, you’re encouraging the next person to do the same.”

“I never like to look back and regret because I feel like this beautiful, messy journey of growth that I’ve been on has probably led me to make more impact today”, she admits.

“I was exhausted with being judged, with being misunderstood, and I think I started to realise that there’s space for me, if I just show up as my true self.

“I had to rewire the way that my brain was thinking and remember that no matter what society thought of me, I wanted to contribute to making it a more inclusive place.”

The response was nothing like Georgia could’ve predicted. By speaking her truth she soon found herself on the Good Morning Britain sofa, doing interviews on news channels, and her social media flooded with hundreds of positive comments praising her for helping others feel like they can be both successful, and proud of challenges they’ve faced.

“I never expected anything to come of it, because more than anything I needed

“THE MORE YOU SHOW UP AS YOURSELF AND YOU SHINE IN YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL WAY, YOU’RE ENCOURAGING THE NEXT PERSON TO DO THE SAME”

to do this for myself”, Georgia tells us.

“The response has been overwhelmingly nice, and people have been extremely kind - honestly, it’s restored my faith in humanity.”

However, she says there’s still more to be done. “Especially in the TV and entertainment industry, we’re now seeing so many storylines where someone is disabled - whether it’s a physical, sensory, or developmental disability, but the storyline is always about their disability.

“We should be seeing disabled people on screen, but it should be about their love interests, or careers - that in itself will help normalise talking about them.”

She adds: “A deaf person doesn’t have a specific look or specific voice. For so long I didn’t feel part of the deaf

FROM BASKET TO BLANKET

PICNIC season is upon us, and whether you’re looking for an excuse to round up your friends and enjoy the clear, blue skies (wishful thinking?), or plan a romantic date as the sun sets, it’s a great way to spend a summer’s day - and you can make it as elevated as you want.

Choosing truffle crisps over salt and vinegar? We’re not judging here.

On Pinterest alone, searches for picnic date ideas have grown by 385%, and it would seem everyone is romanticising the idea of sandwiches and sharing pastries among the grass.

Already dusted off your picnic blanket? We’ve got Peak And The Pantry’s Kelly Peak on hand to give us her top tips on levelling-up your picnic game.

Shop Local for Flavour and Flair

“A perfect picnic starts with a balance of pantry essentials and fresh, local produce. Begin by visiting your favourite deli and butcher to pick up jars of olives, a selection of charcuterie, and some artisan cheeses. Pair these with crackers, chutneys, and relishes from your pantry for bold, exciting flavours.

“Add a freshly baked baguette or focaccia for a rustic touch.”

PERFECT PICNIC WINE PAIRINGS

Add layers of tortilla chips, before tossing the sauce through and adding prawns 5. Add hot sauce and guindilla chillies to taste. Enjoy! with Wine Expert,

“Skip single-use plastic and pack bamboo cutlery and reusable glasses to reduce waste while adding a sense of elegance.”

Finishing Touches

“Décor can make all the difference. Pack a soft picnic blanket, wildflowers in a jar, or even vintage crockery for a nostalgic vibe. If your picnic stretches into the evening, string lights or battery-powered candles create a cosy atmosphere.”

“A picnic is more than just food—think about the mood. Pack a simple game, or a speaker for your favourite playlist.

POSTCARDS FROM PARIS

REMINISCE about romantic weekends spent in Paris by taking design inspiration from the French capital. Postcards from Paris is inspired by chic, Parisian style, so you can achieve the sophisticated look of a pied-à-terre from across the Channel, whether you live in a townhouse or a cottage.

Eschew monochrome, which whilst often associated with classic French style, can look too stark. Instead, think about using warm, brown hues against soft stone or oat shades. Play with proportion – lofty ceilings paired with low-hanging pendants or oversized lamps placed on petite bedside tables emulate hotel style. But remember, less is more if you want to achieve the timeless elegance that French style is known for.

Whilst this scheme is neutral and serene, it’s also filled with shape and texture to add visual interest and tactility. Sofas and beds are layered with an abundance of accessories, from throws to cushions. A pleasing sense of symmetry lends balance, and is a stalwart of French elegance.

CANADA

We’d recommend exploring… Montreal

As the second-largest city in Canada, Montreal has the perfect blend of French and Canadian culture. Poutine? Got it. Stunning architecture? Absolutely. A vibrant fashion scene? You bet. Visit in summer to see the city in all its green glory, or wait until winter and get down to a sugar shack, where sap is collected from the nearby maple trees and boiled into maple syrup - then slathered onto everything.

FINLAND

We’d recommend exploring…

Helsinki

Wellness girlies, listen up, because you’re about to be immersed in a world of ice baths, saunas, and well, straight-up hygge. Finland has been named ‘happiest country in the world’ for seven consecutive years, and with taking care of yourself at the forefront of their lifestyle, it makes for a truly relaxing trip. Helsinki has a bustling city centre with history, architecture, and museums aplenty - but close your eyes when looking at the price of your glass of wine - it might just undo all of your anti-stress work..

Its safety credentials:

Besides, what other city can you visit that has a mountain in the middle of it? Look up to catch a glimpse of Mount Royal.

Its safety credentials:

Named safest of all countries in the Americas - and home to some of the world’s safest cities.

Ranked number one in the world for safety by the World Economic Forum in their Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report.

NEW ZEALAND

We’d recommend exploring…

Wellington

URUGUAY

We’d recommend exploring…

Colonia

If you’re a sucker for saving future home inspo pics - make some space in your folder. Colonia has been dubbed one of the ‘most beautiful cities in Uruguary’, and has no shortage of tiny stone houses with colourful fronts tucked away on cobbled streets. You’ll quickly notice there’s a lot of Spanish and Portuguese influence, and despite being a city, many flock there to its golden beaches with unparalleled views of the glistening ocean. Time to relax.

Its safety credentials:

Uruguay has some of the lowest crime rates in South America, making it the perfect option for anyone wanting to explore that part of the world.

One of the world’s most quaint capitals, Wellington is pretty much walkable (you can be at the beach, forest, or city in 15 minutes), and encompasses the laidback lifestyle New Zealand is famed for. Packed with cafes complete with harbour views, vintage stores to boot, and plenty of great nightlife, there’s no shortage of things to do. If you need to escape the hustle and bustle, catch the cable car to Wellington Botanic Gardens.

Its safety credentials:

Ranked fourth-safest country in the world for travel by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

SWITZERLAND

We’d recommend exploring…

Lucerne

While Switzerland is known for its photogenic qualities, there’s something incredibly special about Lucerne. It’s surrounded by snow-capped mountains, preserved medieval architecture, and of course, the iconic lake. If art’s your thing, head to the Sammlung Rosengart, home to around 40 of Picasso’s works, or catch the funicular up to Château Gütsch for the most incredible views over the scenery below.

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

We’d recommend exploring…

Dubai

While many people still see Dubai as the influencer capital of the world, it has so much more to offer beyond incredible scenery, restaurants, and shopping (although they are still great). The emirate has a thriving arts and culture scene which fuses together the heritages of its 88%-expat population, including Indian, Arabian, and European influences. It’s also home to world-leading excursions you can’t find elsewhere - whether it’s a sunrise hot air balloon over the desert, or dinner on a platform raised 50 metres in the air overlooking the skyline.

Its safety credentials:

98.5% of women aged 15 years and older in the UAE “feel safe walking alone at night in the city or area where [they] live”. The emirate of Dubai even has female-only taxis that are also driven by women, and it was ranked ‘safest city for solo female travellers’ based on a report by Insure My Trip.

Its safety credentials:

Switzerland is the seventh most peaceful country in the world, according to the Global Peace Index (GPI), and regularly tops reports as one of the safest places in Europe.

JAPAN

We’d recommend exploring…

Kyoto

Travellers go to Japan for three things: Hearty food (because who can resist dumplings?), culture, and the ever-incredible cherry blossom during the spring months. Kyoto, a city on the island of Honshu, is known for its vast landscapes of the pink flowers, surrounded by imperial palaces and traditional wooden houses. Despite being immersed in nature, you’ll also be able to live out some of the best experiences Japan has to offer - eating world-class sushi, trying sake, and taking part in a tea ceremony. Prepare to fall head-over-heels for East Asia.

Its safety credentials:

Japan ranks sixth among the most peaceful countries in the world, according to the Global Peace Index (GPI). It also has strong community policing, and respect and courtesy for all are just part of the culture.

IN 80 PAWS AROUND THE WORLD

Your

pooch

can now go globe-trotting with youthe only catch is they’ll be the one getting first-class treatment

IF you don’t go on holiday and spend the whole time either staring at photos of your dog, speaking about your dog, or FaceTiming them - are you even a dog owner?

Well, the introduction of one new airline means dog owners will now be able to bring their pooches around the world with them, as it’s exclusively catered to our furry friends.

While many of us wish that we were joined by lots of excitable pups on our otherwise-boring journeys, very few carriers allow dogs on their planes - especially in the cabin. That is until BARK Air took to the skies last year, an airline dedicated to chartering luxury planes for dogs and their owners, complete with top notch treatment.

BARK Air tells us. “It was a challenge, but also an incredible opportunity. Seeing dogs relax and enjoy the journey, rather than endure it, makes all the hard work worth it.”

And Meeker is truly committed to the cause, because to mark the launch of BARK Air, he himself travelled from Florida to New York in a cargo crate just to prove a point - even flying economy was nicer than flying as a dog until they emerged on the scene.

“BARK Air has taken the white glove

“BARK AIR HAS TAKEN THE WHITE GLOVE EXPERIENCE TYPICAL OF A HUMAN’S FIRSTCLASS EXPERIENCE AND REDIRECTED THAT PAMPERING TO POOCHES”

There’s no crates involved, and dogs are free to roam around as they please.

Co-founder and CEO Matt Meeker worked on the idea for a decade, after being inspired by his late Great Dane, Hugo, who often travelled with him, but could never fit in the cabin of a plane, meaning he had to travel the same way as cargo.

“We had to rethink everything: How do we minimize stress for dogs at the airport? What scents, sounds, and seating arrangements make them feel at ease? How do we ensure the experience is seamless for their humans, too?”,

experience typical of a human’s firstclass experience and redirected that pampering to pooches”, their manifesto explains.

“From booking, to arrival, to in-flight services and disembarkation, dogs will truly be the VIPs and treated to a positively luxurious, curated experience.”

Currently, the airline flies between New York City, Los Angeles, London, and Paris, and each flight carries up to 10 dogs and their humans, to ensure everyone has enough space.

BARK Air uses a New York-based charter company called Talon Air, which provides the pilots, flight crew and plane, a Gulfstream V - also known as a not-too-shabby private jet.

As ever, human friends will need to have an up-to-date passport, while dogs need to have up-to-date vaccination records and microchips, and the BARK Air team will quiz you on your dog’s size, allergies, and temperament to make sure you’re on the right flight.

Depending on where you’re flying

“MANAGING DOGS ON A PLANE IS ALL ABOUT PREPARATION, AND OUR TEAM PUTS IN THE WORK TO SET EVERY PUP UP FOR SUCCESS”

there might be other regulations too - but the airline guides passengers through it depending on requirements for individual countries.

So, you’re all packed up and you’ve breezed through security - now what? Well, dogs and humans will get a chance to eat before takeoff (can you think of anything worse than a mid-air dog fight?!), and once up in the air, fur babies will be able to indulge in spa treatments, or curl up in pheromonecovered blankets for a truly relaxing experience.

specialised Pup Intake Team connects with each customer to learn about their dog’s personality, preferences, and social comfort with humans”, the airline explains.

“We’ve found that some dogs are afraid to climb steps, so we create a treat trail to get them on the plane. Removing stress for our customers with these types of personal touches is what we are most focused on.”

As the concept is relatively new and it’s about the most luxurious way for a dog to travel without chartering your own superyacht, it also has the price tag to match, but BARK Air claims as it becomes more mainstream, they hope prices will come down.

“Our goal is to bring dog-centric air travel to more families at more affordable prices and we are currently exploring ways to make that a reality. This February, we conducted trial flights between New York and Florida on larger aircrafts with double the capacity”, they tell us.

They estimate that soon, prices could drop to below $1,000 (£800) as they scale.

But right now, you can typically expect to pay $8,000 (£6,400) per dog and human duo from London to New York - any extra humans coming along will require an additional pass.

Traditional airlines charge up to £6,000 alone to transport pets on the same journey - so it’s definitely a go big or go home situation, if you ask us. And we’re not the only ones that think so either, because a quick scroll on their available flight list shows that many of their journeys are sold out for the months ahead.

They add: “Since launch, the response has been incredible– far beyond what we expected. We knew dog parents wanted a better way to fly with their pups, but it’s been rewarding to see such enthusiasm.”

“Managing dogs on a plane is all about preparation, and our team puts in the work to set every pup up for success.

“The moment a flight is booked, our

Some would argue you can’t put a price on going on adventures with your best friend.

TRAVELLING UNPLUGGED

Inside the rise of ‘digital detox’ staycations where phones are strictly off-limits

WE’RE online 24/7. Whether that’s connecting with family and friends in other countries, working, or just mindless scrolling online - it’s inescapable. 80% of us check our phones within 15 minutes of waking up, and there’s no denying it can contribute to lack of focus, lower productivity, and even anxiety. That could be the motivating factor behind 3 in 5 Gen Z-ers now taking regular ‘detoxes’ from their screens, and the rise of off-grid travelling - not an Instagram photo in sight.

Pioneering the movement is Unplugged, a travel brand started in 2020 by two tech workers who were regularly prone to burnout, which now boasts over 30 uniquely-designed log cabins across the UK, perfect for city dwellers looking to escape to nature, or those just wanting a weekend away from their TV screens.

That means that when you’ll arrive, you’ll be asked to shut your phone into a lockbox, there’ll be no WiFi, and you’ll be armed with only a map, a compass, and some books and board games to keep you entertained.

If you’re worried about missing out on the photos, they’ll even throw in an instant camera so you can print off Polaroids as you go.

“We recommend doing three nights, based on ‘The Three Day Effect’ that says the minimum time to reap the benefits of going offline and spending time in nature is 72 hours”, Unplugged’s website reads.

“The first day can feel quite strange being without your phone, but the real benefits come on day two and three. You will feel more relaxed, sleep better, and have a new sense of clarity. Plus, a renewed relationship with your phone.”

But what about emergencies?

Well, they’ve got that covered off too. Remember the Nokia brick phones? You’ll be going back to one of those for the week - and it even comes with Snake on it.

All of the cabins are within one-to-two hours of major UK cities and reachable by train or car, so we’re currently running out of excuses not to spend a summer’s evening enjoying everything nature has to offer.

Once you’re there, while locations are remote, you’ll only ever be a walk or short drive away from a town or village you’ve probably never explored - so be sure to add a hearty pub lunch or a mooch around the shops to your to-do list.

What’s more, in your cabin you’ll be greeted by windows offering panoramic views across some of the UK’s most sensational landscapes, all of the kitchenware to rustle up the recipe you’ve been putting off for months, and an outdoor dining area, complete with fire pit.

A life without social media doesn’t sound too shabby now, does it? Consider us sold.

Stays at Unplugged cabins start from £420 for three nights

YOU’RE SO CHARMING

Bag charms have become the maximalist accessory of the season - and we want them all

ACCORDING to Lyst for bag charms and bags with embellishments has risen 352% month-on-month, and it seems we’re all getting behind it. Current trends dictate that less is considered more in our wardrobes, and these tiny trinkets offer a glimpse into our personalities - and make for some very chic collectables. Think of your bag as your new, personal art gallery.

Inspired by Jane Birkin (the muse for the evercoveted Hermès Birkin), the actor was always seen with beads and charms aplenty hanging from her handbag. Fast forward to today, and the trend has been adopted by the Olsen twins, Dua Lipa, and Gigi Hadid, to name just a handful.

“I just love that you can transform one bag into so many different variations of itself”, Hattie, a fashion trend forecaster says.

“Whether it’s a nostalgic item, showing off something you’re really passionate about (which for me is my cat!), or just want to give your style a refresh, I don’t think we’ll see any signs of this trend slowing down soon. Best of all, people won’t ever remember seeing you with the same bag previously.”

So, in summary, the louder you jangle as you walk down the street, the better.

THIS OLD THING? IT’S VINTAGE!

Chappell Roan exploded onto the scene (and red carpets) in 2024, and with her powerful voice brought a whole load of style inspiration. Known for her kooky, drag-inspired looks, the singer often shops vintage to bring her stage character to life. And she’s not the only one. In the US alone, the secondhand market is projected to more than double by 2027, reaching $350 billion in value, as we all turn to retro fashion in the name of sustainability and individuality.

KELLY RUTHERFORD UPPER-EAST SIDER

Kelly Rutherford’s mirror selfies have become somewhat a phenomenon, and the Gossip Girl star is bringing quintessential Van der Woodsen style into the real world. Sleek and simple, her strong, structured silhouettes mixed with plenty of neutral colours makes for a wardrobe that wouldn’t look out of place, whether at Fashion Week, or in the boardroom. Rutherford credits small, European brands for some of her favourite pieces, including Dépêche-toi, and Balzac.

The hashtag #MobWives has 186 million searches on TikTok alone, confirming that laidback dressing is officially out.At the heart of the movement and our style icon? Why, JLo, of course! The singer is known for her bold glamour, love of a big hoop earring, and a bold print - which is exactly what this trend is about. Think 90s supermodel (big, oversized fur coat and leather trousers), with the drama of the early noughties. It’s about having the biggest diamonds, and even bigger sunglasses.

ZENDAYA ON-THE-GO GLAM

There was one word on everyone’s lips in 2024: Brat. An homage to being the messiest, most fun version of yourself with confidence, Charli XCX’s aesthetic also inspired a whole load of Brat dressing. Tank tops were out in full force, half-frame sunglasses became the ‘it’ accessory, and being well-put-together no longer mattered. Black and green colour palettes preferred. Is it about to become a Brat spring?

One thing about Zendaya is that she’s always going to look red carpet-ready - even if she’s just popping out for lunch. She’s even become one of the only people on the planet that can confidently strut around in the ankle-breaking Christian Louboutin So Kates. Her approach to method dressing has meant we’ve seen her in every possible era (from tennis chic for Challengers, to fashion from the future for Dune), but one thing remains consistent - she nails it every single time. Everybody say “thank you” to her stylist, Law Roach.

DIAMONDS

ARE FOREVERSO CHOOSE ONE WISELY

The biggest jewellery trends of 2025 have been revealed, and it’s set be a dazzling affair

Agood pair of earrings or a perfectly-curated ring stack can be enough to elevate your whole wardrobe without having to change a single item of clothing - but knowing where to start is the trickiest part.

Do we wear gold? Do we wear silver? Or what about both? Most of us get our inspiration from people we see walking down the street, and social media, when actually, jewellery is the perfect chance to own something unique, and be the trend-setter yourself.

So, we spoke to Nilesh Rakholia, jewellery expert and founder of Abelini, to get his predictions for the months ahead, so you can get ahead of the curve, and claim you were doing it first.

Lab-grown stones will continue to rise in popularity

There’s a huge curiosity in labgrown diamonds - over the past year, Google searches for “Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?” were up by 129% and searches for “What is a lab-grown diamond?” were up by 89%. Just a few years ago, it was thought that the labgrown era would merely be a phase, but data suggests the sale of real diamonds has slowed. Is this a new era for our bling?

marquis or oval-shaped stones. Hailey Bieber and Kourtney Kardashian both have oval engagement rings, but Selena Gomez could have sparked a new favourite cut, as she most recently got an 8-carat marquise diamond in the form of an engagement ring from Benny Blanco.

Nilesh says: “This year we can expect to see a rise in the popularity of marquise and oval-shaped stones.

Nilesh says: “Lab-grown diamonds are set to be a major trend in 2025 because they offer a more sustainable, ethical, and affordable alternative to mined diamonds. They have minimal environmental impact, avoid the ethical issues of conflict diamonds, and possess the same beauty and quality as natural diamonds.

“Lab-grown diamonds display the same chemical, optical, and physical characteristics as natural diamonds. Both natural and lab-grown diamonds exhibit the same fire, scintillation, and sparkle. It’s also almost impossible to differentiate labgrown from natural diamonds, even when a jewellery loupe is used for scrutiny.”

We’re going to see a rise in marquise oval-shapedand stones

Over the past few months, our favourite celebrities have been at the forefront of this trend, with many seen sporting

Layering jewellery will become more popular

Whether you’re mixing metals or just finding a way to make all of your favourite pieces work together, it won’t take you long to walk past someone in public sporting layered jewellery - whether a ring stack, bracelets, or necklaces.

Nilesh says: “This year, we’re seeing an increased desire for jewellery to be more personalised, with layering different pieces together becoming a popular trend. Layering allows everyone to get creative with what they already own, mixing and matching to reflect their unique style.

“By combining various necklaces, bracelets, or rings, you can create a completely unique and personal look without needing to buy new items. This not only breathes new life into existing pieces, but also ensures that each cherished item gets more wear, adding a sense of individuality and sentimental value to every outfit.”

“These elegant and slightly different cuts offer a fresh take on traditional round and princess shapes, with their elongated forms creating a sense of sophistication

“Marquise and oval stones also have a unique ability to make fingers appear longer and more slender, adding to their appeal. As we all continue to seek distinctive and eyecatching designs, these shapes are poised to become the centrepiece in many popular pieces.”

Sapphires, rubies, and garnets are coming diamonds’for place

While diamonds are forever, coloured stones are set to have their moment this year, with Google searches for “marquise sapphire engagement ring” up by 400% over the past year.

Nilesh says: “This year, we anticipate a surge in the popularity of diamond alternatives like sapphires, rubies, and garnets. These gemstones offer vibrant colour options, unique appeal, and often more affordability, catering to consumers seeking distinctive and meaningful choices beyond traditional diamonds.

“Moreover, these alternatives are often more affordable than diamonds, making them an attractive option for those looking for quality, statement gems without the higher price tag of traditional diamonds. As people seek more meaningful and distinctive options, we expect these beautiful gemstones to become increasingly popular.”

4 KEY TRENDS TO LOOK OUT FOR THIS SUMMER

1

Sheer & Lightweight

Layers

Breezy, semi-transparent fabrics are everywhere this season. Think chiffon kaftans, mesh dresses, and airy, linen sets, perfect for layering without overheating.

2 Bold, Sculptural Swimwear

Bikinis and swimsuits are becoming more structured, with statement cut-outs, underwire details, and asymmetric straps. A one-piece with an architectural silhouette can double up as a chic top when styled with a sarong or wide-leg trousers.

3

Oversized Sun Hats & Visors

Accessories are going bigliterally. Wide-brimmed hats and dramatic, woven visors not only offer stylish sun protection, but also elevate any beachside look instantly.

4

Vibrant, Playful Prints

This summer is all about mood-boosting colours and bold patterns, whether it’s retro florals, tropical prints, or colourful crochet. It’s an easy way to inject energy into your wardrobe while keeping things effortless.

Oriona’s top tip for dressing to stay cool in the heat compromising(without on style)

The key is breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, and silk. Avoid synthetics as they trap heat, and instead opt for loose, flowy silhouettes over anything tight-fitting. Natural fibres wick away moisture, keeping you feeling fresh even in the hottest climates.

How to take your poolside look from dayto-night

The secret to transitioning seamlessly from day to evening is through layering and accessorising. A chic swimsuit can work as a bodysuit, when paired with a high-waisted skirt or relaxed, linen trousers. Swap flip-flops for heeled sandals, add statement jewellery, and throw on a lightweight blazer or kimono to instantly elevate your look.

LEARN, GROW, HEAL

Somatic healing is the
Megan Rose Lane is the unlock their potential - and personal hurdles and helping women overcome alternative therapy
coach driving its popularity

SOMATIC therapy isn’t a new thing, but it’s certainly a buzzword of the moment for those seeking alternatives to the traditional therapy methods when it comes to healing from their experiences - or even just unlocking a new level of confidence.

The word “somatic” comes from the Greek word “soma”, meaning “body”, and somatic healing is an approach to emotional and physical healing that focuses on the connection between the mind and body. Consider yourself a fan of yoga? Well, you’re already getting started without realising.

Somatic healing has roots in ancient wisdom and also modern therapeutic practices, and has even been supported by a lot of evidence in ongoing trauma studies (take a look at the work of Gabor Maté and Peter Levine for a deeper dive).

It’s no secret that when we experience something traumatic (no matter how big or small), our bodies can hold onto the energy of those experiences, which can then manifest as anxiety, emotional stress, or chronic pain.

We then get stuck in the same patterns of limiting beliefs about our abilities - and how the heck are we supposed to become our best selves while carrying that weight?

Someone who firmly believes in its potential is Megan Rose Lane, a life coach that’s amassed almost 400,000 followers spreading messages of empowerment and teaching women to not hold themselves back anymore.

“Unlike talking therapy, which addresses your mindset, thoughts, and beliefs, somatic healing goes deeper - and this is why I believe it’s actually more powerful”, she tells BLUSH.

“It allows us access to the areas of our bodies where we’ve stored emotions, memories, and trauma. Talking doesn’t let us go that deep, which is why we can end up in talking therapy for years.”

She adds: “At a deeper level it’s really powerful for anyone, even with physical symptoms that don’t have a clear medical explanation.”

She speaks of how she discovered the power of somatic healing: “I tried to heal from an eating disorder and chronic panic attacks through mindset alone, but it only got me so far. Once I tried somatic healing through EFT (emotional freedom techniques), which include visualisation, sound, and breath - everything changed.”

Like with anything, it’s important to seek out a specialist that is trained, particularly if you’re someone looking to delve into sensitive topics - but it’s become clear that there’s an appetite for these alternative methods of finding our inner-joy. Gwyneth Paltrow would be proud.

“People are waking up to the fact that our life experiences aren’t just a mental experience… they are also physical”, says Megan.

“Even practices like mindfulness, yoga, and breathwork have normalised the idea of tuning into the body, making somatic healing more accessible.”

How does somatic healing work?

“I prioritise feeling, moving, and expressing what’s trapped in the body, through dance, breathwork, sound, and emotional release”, Megan says, explaining that it’s more physical than a typical therapy session.

While some people may feel shifts after one session (which typically lasts 60-90 minutes), Megan advises it’s all part of a longer journey.

“You’ll be encouraged to notice tension, numbness, or any other sensations in your body”, she says.

“Suppressed emotions can and will come up - grief, anger, deep sadness, and even joy and outbursts of laughter - that’s the beautiful part of the healing process. Letting ourselves fully feel after (often) years of internalising it all.”

“UNLIKE TALKING THERAPY, WHICH ADDRESSES YOUR MINDSET, THOUGHTS, AND BELIEFS, SOMATIC HEALING GOES DEEPER”

A NEWBIE’S GUIDE TO SOMATIC HEALING OBSERVE

“Observe the experience you’re feeling in your body without judgement. Become aware of physical sensations tied to emotions - like a tight chest when you’re anxious. Label the feeling, the texture of the energy, its colour, shape, and the memories associated with it.”

HAVE COMPASSION

“Meet your fear from a place of deep compassion and grace. Offer love to the parts of yourself that feel afraid, rejected and abandoned as a result.”

EXPRESSION

“Use movement, breath, touch, dance, and sound to move and release stuck energy.”

REPATTERN YOUR THINKING

“Create new beliefs, and in turn, new possibilities for yourself, whilst communicating safety in the body.”

INTEGRATION

“Somatic work can be incredibly powerful, and create immediate healing effects - many people feel completely changed in the space of one session. Integration is the practice of deeply embodying the work you’ve done, instead of just intellectually understanding it. Journaling, meditation, or rituals that honour the lessons and shifts you’ve experienced are super helpful. This will solidify your healing and anchor it into your life for lasting change.”

Megan’s top tip for getting started with somatic healing:

“Come at somatic healing with curiosity and patience. It requires courage and a willingness to feel and engage with the parts of yourself that you may have avoided for a really long time. Trust the process and remember that small shifts in body awareness can lead to huge transformations over time. Make sure you work with a practitioner you feel safe and comfortable with, who can meet you at the level of healing you need.”

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT HEALTHY

As we become more health-conscious consumers, these are the wellness advancements everyone’s getting excited about

IT’S no secret that Gen-Z and Millennials are more into wellness than older generations, and this huge shift in the way we prioritise our health has sparked a new wave of accessibility to pioneering treatments and products that help us on our way to supercharging our liveswhether physically, or mentally.

While 2024 was the year of collagen and cold plunges, there’s even more excitement to come in the health space in 2025, with the wellness industry’s value reaching $1.8 trillion and our everhungry desire to invest in ourselves only

growing. Because that’s the ultimate luxury, right?

Here are just some of the new wellness wonders we’re expecting to see everywhere this year…

GENETIC TESTING

Biohacking has been the buzzword of the last few years, with more health-conscious consumers constantly looking for ways to evolve their performance based on their own

body’s needs.

Genetic testing has been around in various forms for a while (particularly in the ancestry space), but in 2025, it’s getting a whole new upgrade that could be considered every wannabe biohacker’s dream.

That’s because the first precision genetics test has just been launched in the UK by 10X Health Systems, and it claims to give you a full insight into your healthand its future - using just your saliva.

Your genes are passed down from each of your parents, who also each have their own genes, which is what makes us truly unique.

“YOUR GENES ARE PASSED DOWN FROM EACH OF YOUR PARENTS, WHO ALSO EACH HAVE THEIR OWN GENES, WHICH IS WHAT MAKES US TRULY UNIQUE”

After your sample has undergone detailed analysis at the 10X lab in Austria, you’ll receive back an almost400-page book detailing how your genetic makeup processes nutrition, including a look at the food and drink most-suited to your body, and a precision supplement plan, all based on your DNA.

The company recognises that there’s no blanket approach to diet or exercise that works for everybody, and given that there are 700 trillion different outcomes (no, really) relating to your body’s genetic makeup, this could be the closest we’ve ever come to getting a detailed look into our health.

LION’S MANE

No, we don’t mean animal fur. Lion’s mane supplements began popping up on every health store’s shelf in 2024, but this ingredient has actually been a staple in Chinese medicine for centuries.

In fact, it’s now one of the most highly-protected varieties of mushrooms, and while it’s not illegal to buy, it is against the law to pick it in the wild - because it’s really that special.

Plus, traditional remedies in general are making a comeback. With NHS waiting lists stretched, search trends indicate that people are now seeking more holistic remedies for certain problems.

As it’s not yet undergone enough studies to scientifically prove its benefits, lion’s mane is still considered a herbal supplement, but there are plenty of claims to suggest it promotes cognitive health, can help reduce inflammation, and protect your gutso it really is a great all-rounder.

CHRONONUTRITION

We’ve spent years mastering the art of what we eat to manage our health, but now we’re turning to the importance of when we’re eating too.

Your circadian rhythm is the physical, mental, and behavioural cycles you experience over a 24-hour period, and some health experts are suggesting we should now be timing our meals in relation to its optimum peaks - known as chrononutrition.

Your body has different energy needs and metabolism speeds throughout the day, so eating at the

right times can boost energy, help digestion, and even improve sleep and assist with weight management.

For example, a group of researchers kept track of a 20-week-long weightloss plan that 420 people undertook. They found that those who ate their main meal earlier in the day lost more weight than those who would eat later in the evening - even though they were eating pretty much the same.

That could be because our body is better at breaking down fats in the morning, or digestion not being as easy in the evening - something most of us don’t even think about when we’re eating day-to-day.

It’s all about timing your food to match your body’s natural cycles.

AI-POWERED FITNESS

Artificial intelligence is revolutionising the world (for better or worse) in many ways, and we’re going to see it cropping up in fitness more and more.

The global AI fitness market is set to exceed $35.6 billion by 2030 - so we simply can’t ignore its potential.

There are already plenty of AI fitness tools out there to help you get started. In fact, Strava have recently added an ‘Athlete Intelligence’ feature for runners, offering them deeper insights into what their performance could mean for their progress, and offers personalised feedback on how to improve on their next run.

The Magic Mirror is another major advancement in this space, quickly becoming one of the most-talked about products - not least because it costs $58,000 to own one. The mirror fixes to your wall at home, and while you workout, you’ll be met with an AIpowered trainer looking back at you, offering feedback on your form, and counting your reps.

As a more cost-effective option, even our fitness gadgets are tapping into AI. WHOOP users now have access to WHOOP Coach, powered by Open AI, to ask questions about your fitness journey, and receive personalised wellness advice based on machine learning and your own biometric data.

STAYING WELL-FED

Are we in a weight-loss drug crisis? Huel CoFounder, James Collier explains how to make informed decisions, eat well, and feel your best-self for the year ahead

What does a ‘good’ diet look like in 2025?

When it comes to our health, what could be described as a ‘good’ diet covers a range of ways of eating. However, in 2025 we should acknowledge that we’re bigger than ourselves: not only will what we choose to eat affect our own health, but it affects others and the environment, too. This is the crux of my dietary philosophy. But we should prioritise our own physical and mental health - because a diet isn’t sustainable if it can’t sustain an individual.

However you choose to eat, a ‘good’ diet has a few key features. Prioritise fibre and protein-rich foods to help keep you feeling full, and foods rich in an array of vitamins, minerals, and essential fats like Omega-3. A good diet doesn’t need to be plant-based, but it should be plant-rich, including plenty of foods like wholegrains, legumes, nuts and seeds, and fruit and vegetables.

On behalf of all busy people looking for a quick, costeffective bite to eat - Is there still a place for ultraprocessed foods in today’s world?

I’m betting five or six years ago, most people hadn’t heard the term ‘ultra-processed food’. Now, it’s an everyday term! Yet, the term ‘ultraprocessed food’, or ‘UPF’, lacks a suitable definition. Many highly processed foods can be highly nutritious, like so-called UPF wholewheat breads, plant-based meat alternatives, baked beans and high-fibre breakfast cereals. There’s a fibre-crisis and only 9% of UK adults are consuming adequate amounts. Certain UPFs can provide fibre, vitamins, and minerals that people are otherwise missing out on.

“A GOOD DIET DOESN’T NEED TO BE PLANT-BASED, BUT IT SHOULD BE PLANT-RICH, INCLUDING PLENTY OF FOODS LIKE WHOLEGRAINS, LEGUMES, NUTS AND SEEDS, AND FRUIT AND VEGETABLES”

And just how important are supplements on top of that?

It depends. Most of us who are consuming a varied diet, shouldn’t need to supplement. Certain supplements can have a role in certain conditions. For example, Vitamin B12 in vegans (as most plant foods are devoid of this essential vitamin), Vitamin D3 in cooler climates during the winter months, or Omega-3 in nonfish eaters. But remember that supplements do exactly that - you can’t out-supplement a poor diet!

What if I’m trying to be healthy, but I’m done with the yoyo-ing and considering a weight-loss drug?

It’s the junk food UPFs – those high in fat, sugar and salt, and low in fibre and micronutrients –that we should be reducing our intake of. These are hyper-palatable, convenient, cheap, high in calories, and low in nutrition. Most of us are consuming too many of these foods. For sure, these can be included as part of a healthy diet, but their intake should be limited. This is why I prefer the term ‘junk food’ to ‘ultra-processed food’: the term ‘junk’ implies that they aren’t that nutritious, rather they’re extras you can enjoy as long as you’ve otherwise eaten sufficient high quality foods.

Semaglutide and tirzepatide shouldn’t be used if you just want to trim a little unwanted podge. Someone who’s otherwise in good health and with a BMI of, say 28, should be asking themselves if they really do need these medications.

Weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy are brand names for semaglutide, a type of GLP-1 agonist. This class of drugs act like the appetitesuppressing hormone GLP-1. Another example, tirzepatide – commonly known by the brand names Mounjaro and Zepbound – is even more effective than semaglutide because, as well as mimicking GLP-1, it also mimics another hormone, GIP, which compliments GLP-1’s effects.

The drugs are not risk-free: there’s a lot we don’t know about them. They are not for people who just want to slim down a couple of dress sizes or to, say, lose a bit before holiday. They are for those who have continuously tried throughout their adult life to lose weight and their health might be at risk as they age. The BMI criteria for them to be prescribed is typically over 30, but could be lower with at least one weight-related condition.

These drugs help turn down food noise. People with a lot of food noise constantly think about food. Their subconscious brain constantly reminds them to seek out food. Hundreds of genes have been identified to be associated with a greater degree of food noise. This was useful when food was scarce, but now we live in a food environment where food is easy to acquire and delicious, meaning that food noise can be a constant struggle. While eating a meal, people with high food noise might already be thinking about their next one. GLP-1 drugs help to muffle this food noise and it’s why they’re so effective.

However, you’ll likely require these drugs long-term unless you change your lifestyle. So this means choosing nutrientdense foods to ensure you’re getting the nutrients you need.

Crucially, seek advice from your doctor and do not buy these drugs from online pharmacies or, worse, the black market. You might not be getting semaglutide at the correct dose or even the correct compound at all. Yet, the vast majority of GLP-1 prescriptions are currently coming through online pharmacies. One reason for this might be that people struggle to access their GP: getting an appointment can be a nightmare! These drugs should be prescribed by a health professional who knows the drugs and your medical history, and together, you can weigh up the risks.

Are there any situations where

they might be a good option?

While they’re useful to control diabetes and weight loss, GLP-1s are not a cure. Choosing good foods and being physically active will be crucial to success. Importantly, they are drugs for life. Stopping the injections will result in your appetite and cravings coming back, unless you take measures to mitigate this and adopt changes to your lifestyle. However, trying to make multiple changes in one go is likely setting yourself up for failure.

Change your behaviours one at a time. For example, start by exercising just 15 minutes at the same time every day and making no other changes. When you’re used to this, try limiting chocolate to just one small bar a week. A month later, add an additional 5 minutes to the exercise session. Don’t ‘go on a diet’: slowly and surely make changes that will result in health improvements. Be patient!

What’s more important for good health - diet or exercise?

Having a good diet and being physically active are both important. However, the evidence points to being active being more important as a predictor of living well as you get older. Exercise helps to reduce stress, strengthens muscles and bones, and helps us feel good. It also helps to boost our mental health and focus.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for someone looking to stay on top of their health in 2025?

There’s a reason that I named my dietary approach ‘contemplative nutrition’. I want to urge people to pause and consider – just a little – why they’re choosing the foods they do. Learn to recognise feelings of hunger and satiety. As well as this, try to be physically active, as this will massively help to reduce risk of illness and boost you mentally.

overlooked. Eating is not just about what we eat: it’s about how we eat. There are huge benefits from enjoying food in the company of others. Research has shown that mealtimes help us make healthier food choices, make us more connected to other people, reduce stress, and boost brian chemicals associated with happiness. Whenever possible – even if it’s just once or twice a week – try to sit down for a family meal or share food with a friend.

FEEL THE BARRE BURN

What you need to know about the balletinspired workout that’s responsible for some serious toning

What is Barre?

Barre is a hybrid dance-strength workout which incorporates traditional moves found in ballet with pilates. Like ballet, it’s typically done using a barre, and you’ll need to brush up on your first, second, and third position - because you’ll be doing a lot of that (however, you won’t need your ballet shoes).

Statistics indicate that Barre has grown in popularity over 141% in the last 10 years, and it’s thought a third of gyms are now incorporating it into their timetables.

In each of your balletinspired poses, you’ll do small, low-impact movements (like lifts and

squeezes) that will test the strength and endurance of your body - and help you feel the muscle shake that lets you know it’s working.

The class is an adaptation of the Lotte Berk Method (AKA a dancer’s workout), and for maximum impact you’ll need to adopt a dancer’s posture too. Keep that core engaged, shoulders down, spine tall, and you’ll soon see the results for yourself. If you’re a fan of yoga, pilates, or ballet, this workout is guaranteed to be a load of fun.

Why is barre so popular?

Put simply, it’s suitable for everyone! You don’t have to be super fit and you definitely don’t need ballet experience. While you’re only doing tiny movements, they’re also very intricate and controlled, so you’ll start seeing definition in your body and feeling yourself grow stronger.

You can change the intensity of each move based on your confidence level, so you can keep building on your progress.

Plus, playing ballerina is far more fun than standing in a mirror with your dumbbells, right?

What is barre good for?

Barre has so many benefits - whether you’re trying to build your strength, tone up, or shed a few pounds.

Because of all the stretching and lowimpact movements, it’s also perfect for improving posture and balance - in fact, a 2021 study found that the ability to balance better had a direct correlation with a longer life expectancy. It even has some mental benefits too.

“It’s no secret that most forms of exercise help reduce stress and boost endorphins, but the mind-body connection found in a barre class is unmatched”, Peloton writes on their website.

“When you are focusing on tiny muscle movements and keeping your form intact, your mind is much less likely to wander.”

It also helps classes fly by if you’re someone who struggles to focus for a full hour, and when you feel that ache the day after, you feel nothing short of accomplished. We can’t promise you won’t become totally obsessed, though.
