Habit 1: Be Proactive-- You are the force. Take responsibility for your life. Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind--Control your own destiny or someone else will. Define your mission and goals in life. Habit 3: Put first things first--Harness will and wonʼt power. Prioritize, and do the most important things first Habit 4: Think win-win-- Life is an all-you-can-eat buffet, thereʼs enough good stuff for everyone! Have an everyone-can-win attitude. Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood--You have two ears and one mouth. Listen to people sincerely. Habit 6: Synergize--Celebrate differences. Work together to achieve more. Habit 7: Sharpen the saw--Itʼs “me” time. Renew yourself regularly


We have learned that by working cooperatively we can get more work done with less effort. With this thought in mind I have designed this unit so that each one of you need only master the information in one chapter of Highly Effective Teens, but by sharing what you learn with each other, you will be able to grasp the concepts from the entire book. For this to work, each one of you will have to do your part, but your part will be considerably smaller than it would have been if you had to read the entire book yourself. 1. Brainstorm: Read the title of your chapter with your partner and make some predictions. What do you think you are going to learn in your chapter? 2. Research and Plan: Read through your chapter carefully and take notes. • Create a list of important vocabulary words • Outline the important information and ideas that make up your chapter. What do you need the class to understand when you are finished with your presentation?* *Students need to a) understand the habit, b) see why it is important and c) see how it could be incorporated into their lives. 3. Create: Your presentation, student worksheets and evaluation plan. Student Learning Plan How will you encourage your students to absorb the material? 1. Create a guided note taking sheet for your presentation. Your own notes from the chapter reading can be cut and pasted into the guided note maker. Then simply highlight the passages you want taken out for students to fill in during your presentation. 2. Keynote Presentation Your presentation should include a minimum of 10 slides. Please remember the guidelines for creating an effective slideshow 1. 2. 3. 4.

Keep text to a minimum; think in phrases, not paragraphs; emphasize key points. Use a font size, style and color your audience can read. Choose your visual elements to help people understand and remember ideas. Choose animations and special effects that enhance your message.

Student Evaluation Plan How will you know your students have learned the material? Ideas include, but are not limited to... 1. Create role play situations where students can act out the key concepts presented in your chapter. 2. Create a writing prompt exploring the habit you presented. 3. You explain why this law is important and present information to convince your audience to care about this habit.

Action (5 pts)

You explain how this habit can be incorporated in a person始s life. Someone reading this information should have an ideas about how to actually put this habit to use in his/her life.
