Message from Parks and Recreation: Can you believe we are already in the summer of 2019? Where has the year gone? Staff is busy developing and implementing a number of new and innovative programs and activities for the department. Southside Summer events have already begun! Check out the Southside Summer advertisement for more events happening all summer. Do not forget to get out this summer and enjoy our community centers and recreate. Take a walk on some of our wonderful trail systems and explore the wonders of nature. Visit our parks and play catch or just take a stroll through our wonderful parks. In addition, if you are interested, check out our Parks website and consider Adopting a Park or Trail, through our Adopt-a-Park/Trail program. Recreation Division Requirements for Children in all Facilities

1. Children ages 10 or younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older, in the immediate vicinity. * No curbside drop-off for children ages 10 and under. 2. Children ages 11-17 may be in the facility unaccompanied; but may not be responsible for children under the age of 11. 3. In all pool facilities, children aged 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water. 4. Children under 16 are not allowed in the weight rooms. 5. Field trips and parties must have adult supervision as follows: • Children 3-5 years of age: one (1) adult per three (3) children • Children 6-10 years of age: one (1) adult per six (6) children • Children 11-17 years of age: one (1) adult per ten (10) children. City Golf Championship_____________________July 19th-20th Want to turn some heads? Then get ready to train and ‘drive’ yourself ‘bunkers’ for the 2019 Santa Fe City Golf Championship. This highly anticipated and favored tournament will feature some of the best, seasoned golfers in Santa Fe County and boasts a great opportunity to watch the very best amateur golfers break through within their respective flight category. Healthy Kids Celebration and Family Fitness Day_________July 27th CHRISTUS St. Vincent, in partnership with the Santa Fe Fire Department and the Genoveva Chavez Community Center, is hosting the 7th Annual Healthy Kids Celebration & Family Fitness Day. This exciting event will be full of activities and wellness for the whole family . Activities include free fitness classes, magician, face painting, sand art, free throw competition, silhouette drawings, healthy snacks, and health care providers. Fall Flag Football Registration Starts_______________August 8th 6 games with single elimination tournament, 16 team limit, 2 divisions (open and recreation ). The Chavez Center Annual Maintenance Closure_________TBD Each year the Chavez Center closes for approximately one week to ten days in order to perform specialized cleaning, repairs, and maintenance work on our elaborate operational mechanical systems. Bicentennial Pool Doggie Dip___________ ______September 7th Here’s a chance for your beloved dog to enjoy a dip in our pool. All proceeds from this event to benefit the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. The Recreation Division strives to provide a friendly, safe and enjoyable family atmosphere for all patrons. In order to maintain a pleasant environment, all patrons of the facility must refrain from the following list of infractions which should not be construed to be a complete list, but rather is representative of the types of behavior that are deemed to be unacceptable.

Actions interfering with or disrupting the ability of staff to provide a safe, family environment. 2. Failure to follow staff directions. 3. Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs resulting in even the slightest degree of impairment, or dealing or possession of illegal substances. 4. Use of foul, offensive or abusive language. 5. Harassment, intimidation or any other type of behavior that interferes with someone’s ability to use the center, including sexual harassment and creating a hostile environment for others. 6. Any physical or violent altercation with another person or staff. 7. Bringing any type of weapon into a Recreation Division facility, or onto the grounds of facility. 8. Disregarding posted rules and misuse and or abuse of facility equipment. 9. Causing physical damage to anyone’s personal property. 10. Theft of property belonging to other patrons or staff. 11. Disruption of public or private activities. Towards this goal, staff of the Recreation Division is committed to ensuring that all patrons follow the Code of Conduct so that nothing interferes with or disrupts our ability to provide a safe family environment. When patrons fail to abide by the Code of Conduct staff may ask a patron to leave the facility for a set period of time, up to and including permanent suspension. In the event that an individual fails to follow staff direction, the Santa Fe Police Department will be contacted for assistance. Please be aware of and comply with all posted rules in the facility.

Lightning Watch Any time the immediate area is under a lightning watch, the pools, sauna and shower areas will be closed. All city pools must close in order to ensure the safety of the patrons. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Swim Class Descriptions (Ft. Marcy) Parent/Tot This class is designed for parents with children age 1 - 3. The class is designed to teach babies enjoyment of the water, development of basic water awareness, socialization in groups, and teach parents basic water safety skills. An adult must accompany the child in the water. Rubber or plastic pants are required.

Pre-school

Pre-school classes are designed to make the pre-school child feel more comfortable in the water. The parent is required to be in the water with the child. This is a fun-filled, splash around, water class for children 3-5 years of age.

Level 1 - Water Exploration

A class designed to help the student feel comfortable in the water. Students will work on breath-holding, front/back floating, entering the water independently, introduction to flutter kicking, and front crawl arms.

A class designed to give students fundamental stroke and selfpropulsion skills. The students will learn unsupported front/back glide, front crawl coordination with breathing, begin back crawl arm action, and an orientation to deep water.

Level 3 - Stroke Readiness

This class will build upon the skills learned in Level II. The student will learn to coordinate front and back crawl and be introduced to elementary backstroke, treading, retrieving objects, and diving.

Level 4 - Stroke Development

The student will learn to develop confidence and endurance in the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and existing skills. Skills learned will include standing dive, deep water skills, breaststroke introduction, sidestroke, and treading water (scissor kick, rotary kick). FIELD TRIPS Youth Group Field Trips • Groups must schedule their facility visit at least two weeks in advance to ensure space and proper staffing. Youth Program Mission

School Closure Day Camps

Genoveva Chavez Community Center’s Youth Programs provide an opportunity for kids to experience a wide range of activities supervised by a caring and supportive staff. Programs are FESTIVE because we ensure that activities are Fun, Educational & Safe. Programs are designed with a mixture of leisure and recreation for children ages 6-12. Activities include sports, swimming, ice skating, board games, social games, and arts. For more information, Contact Melissa Bustos, 955-4005 or mabustos@santafenm.gov

Day camps are offered throughout the school year on select weekdays when elementary schools are closed. Camps are designed to provide fun, educational, and safe programing for youths ages 6-12. Activities include sports, swimming, ice skating, games, arts & crafts, and special activities. Cost is $45 per child per day, and parents must provide daily lunch and snack. Schedule 7:30am - 8:30am Early Drop-Off, 8:30am - 5pm Camp, 5pm - 5:30pm Pick Up.

Youth Program Transfer Policy & GCCC Refund Policy Transfer requests must be made no later than 8:00pm on the Monday one week prior to the first day of the session. •

You may withdraw from a session and transfer the total amount as payment for a different session, or

Withdraw from a session and carry the total amount as a credit account in your name for use at a future time.

Refunds will be given for medical reasons only. A Doctor’s excuse is required. Refunds may take up to four weeks to process. To request a refund submit a copy of the Doctor’s note and a Refund Request Form.

After-School Youth Programs After-school care for elementary school children age 6-12. Cost is $50 per week Monday - Thursday 3pm - 6pm Friday 12:30pm - 6pm Please see chavezcenter.com for more information and registration forms. Program is not offered when the facility is closed. The GCCC Natatorium has something for everyone! • • • •

50 meter Olympic size pool A Leisure pool with water slides zero-depth entry, and vortex A Therapy pool Hot tub and Sauna

Our 50 meter pool operates at a temperature of 82 degrees. We offer a schedule of long-course & short-course lap swimming. Three diving boards as well as water basketball hoops are available during short course . Water aerobics classes are offered three mornings per week. Kayak on Wedesday evening. Call for form informaiton 955-4052 Leisure pool with its warm 90 degrees and fun features: a frog slide, a triple loop water slide, a lazy river and a vortex. The Leisure pool also has a zero-depth entry great for the smallest swimmers. Capacity is 150 swimmers. All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult in the water with them at all times. We define an adult as at least 18 years old. Swim diapers or diapers covered by rubber/plastic pants are required for babies and toddlers who are not potty-trained. The Therapy pool (40-person capacity) operates at 94 degrees. Users must be at least 18 years or older to use the therapy pool unless part of a structured class or for purposes of physical rehabilitation therapy. The therapy pool is used for rehabilitation, light exercise and relaxation. The Natatorium also offers a Dry Sauna and a sevenperson hot tub. The hot tub operates at 104 degrees.

Proper swim suits are required. We will not allow entrance with gym shorts or cut-offs.

Courts are available for drop-in recreation to members and the general public during most GCCC building hours. Sports equipment can be checked-out for use in the gymnasium areas by exchanging an ID as a deposit in order to guarantee the return of equipment. This League will give women players the opportunity to show their skills on the basketball court. 8 game season with a single elimination tournament. Summer Youth Basketball League Registration: Opens April 19th, 2019 Divisions:: Elementary, Middle School, and High School (Boys and Girls) Registration Fee: $350.00 per 10 player team Format : 8 game season with single elimination tournament. Tia Chi Tia Chi is an ancient form of exercise for developing flexibility, strength, stamina, aim, balance, self-control and happiness. The slow, relaxed movements are coordinated with traditional imagery and Chi Gong breathing techniques. The method emphasizes grounding, centering, uprightness, and intention. Cardio Interval Training Increase your strength and endurance. Each class includes cardio and strength training segments utilizing various techniques and props. All fitness levels are welcome as modification will be demonstrated and encouraged.

150-skater capacity on the ice per session on a first-come, first-served basis.

Don’t own your own skates? The Chavez Center Skate Shop has 400 pairs of skates for you to rent. $3.00 per pair, per session. Figure and hockey skates are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Weekly schedules are available at the Skate Shop. Contact the skate shop for more information at 955-4033. All programs and hours are subject to change due to special event programming, maintenance, or unforeseen circumstances. Freestyle Skating Freestyle sessions are open to all qualified figure skaters. These sessions are designed for serious and competitive figure skaters taking private lessons or working on individual skills. The Ice Arena will determine the appropriate limit of skaters participating in any one session (approximately 25). The “Tape Line” will be enforced and repetitive program music will not be allowed. The lead skater(s) with the “Sash” will be given “right of way”. There will be two GCCC provided “Sashes” to allow for better time management. Any skater engaging in reckless or dangerous skating will be ordered off the ice. No standing or congregating with other skaters on the ice during these sessions.( NO HOCKEY SKATES ALLOWED) There may be consideration for a one-time “Cut in Line” per lesson. During very busy ice times there may be a music signup requirement. No hockey skates allowed

PARKS DIVISION SPECIAL EVENTS (505) 955-2110 REQUIREMENT AND STEPS

A permit is required to reserve a City park for family gatherings, parties, classes, group activities or other special events with 25 or more attendees. Groups of less than 25 are not required to obtain a permit; however, permit holders will have priority. This excludes the SF Plaza, and Candelero Park. Steps 1. Thirty (30) days prior to an event, complete and submit the on-line application. If the event is over 100 people (60) days’ notice is required. 2. After submitting the application, contact the Special Events Coordinator Barbara V. Lopez by email at bvlopez@santafenm.gov: a) • To determine whether or not the park you

requested is available.

b) • To schedule a pre-event meeting. Your

reservation will NOT be confirmed without this meeting. If your event requires a street closure, tent set-up, or security (if known), a representative from each of these companies must attend this meeting. At the meeting the following items will be determined: • logistics (parking, electricity, number of attendees, etc.) • the cost of your permit (see Cost of Permit below) • whether a street closure is necessary (see Requirements for Street Permits below) • whether or not your event will require a Liability Insurance Certificate (see Liability Insurance Certificate Pg. 26) Page 25

PARKS DIVISION SPECIAL EVENTS (505) 955-2110 Cost of Permit The cost of the permit is based on the number of attendees, weekday or weekend, before or after 5:00 p.m. and logistics required to be provided by the City for the event. Liability Insurance Certificate Groups of 100 attendees or more will require a $1,000,000 Insurance Liability Certificate and the City of Santa Fe must be listed as additional insured. Contact local insurance agencies to make arrangements to secure this certificate.
