Message From SFPGA Foundation President Tom Wildenhaus, PGA We hope you and your family are doing well despite all the many difficulties this year has provided. Our Foundation had many aspirations for great things to accomplish in 2020. No matter how many obstacles came our way, we are amazed at how our PGA Professionals continued to, “serve the south Florida community and change lives through the game of golf.” This year proved our Foundation team is adaptable, resilient and committed to our community. In March, all Foundation programming was paused due to the impeding global health pandemic. We had PGA HOPE programs set to begin, a full Junior Tour season scheduled and on-going Smiling Fore Life events all changing lives. Due to COVID-19 all our programs have changed significantly but did not stop. Instead of in-person instruction for Smiling Fore Life or PGA HOPE; our instructors stepped off the range and in front of the camera. Capturing virtual lessons for our patriots in PGA HOPE to practice from home and for pediatric patients to stay entertained. Off the course and online, our PGA Professionals provided games and drills for our target audiences to stay active and fight isolation. Both #HOPEfromHOME and #VirtualSFL connected our Professionals and those who needed our help more than ever. As our nation remained locked down to stay safe, we desperately craved social interaction. That’s why our Foundation turned to social media to create connections. We hosted virtual hangouts between HOPE leaders and our local military veterans; recorded conversations between our Junior Staff to help our players; and shared the stories of those throughout our community that continued to give back. You can read more of these stories as you progress through this report. We didn’t stay off the golf courses forever. Our Junior Tour was able to begin hosting golf tournaments in early June. By eliminating touch points and implementing Back2Golf safety protocols our staff was able to provide our junior golfers a safe and social way to play. We look forward to providing more golfing opportunities for our juniors as the virtual school year continues for many of our Junior Tour participants. We are also excited to announce we could assist a local junior golfer in his or her pursuit of higher education with our annual Foundation Scholarship. As you continue to read, you will read stories of the individuals whose lives have been changed through the game of golf, and specifically through our Foundation programs administered throughout south Florida. These stories highlight the character of our PGA Professionals that make our programs a success. Their commitment to their local communities makes these stories hit home and express just how great an impact our Foundation has made. We could not have made the impact on the communities of south Florida without the support of PGA Professionals, great friends and donors. Despite all the difficulties that occurred this year, we are so impressed by the levels of giving from all our friends of the Foundation. Whether support comes through volunteer hours or donations, we need both to achieve our goals. Once again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you at one of our events in the 2020! Message From Section President Karl Bublitz, PGA As 2020 comes to a close, we take this time to reflect on the many hurdles it presented to all of our operations. Through it all, golf is thriving, and our job now is to work to keep our new consumers engaged in the game. I would also like to congratulate you on a job well done. As your Section President I am pleased to report that we have remained financially sound during the past nine months due to the great leadership of our Executive Director, Geoff Lofstead. COVID altered how the Section operates which afforded us with opportunities to utilize virtual platforms to remain connected with the membership. Seeing an increase in our engagement by doing so. Virtual programming started with our Annual Meeting in late May when more than 450 members joined us virtually. This has continued through our online educational offers featuring a wide range of topics to help the entire membership. Moving forward into 2020, we will continue to provide bi-monthly education seminars and look forward to our tournament season kicking off in late March with our second-ever Pro-Lady. As for other programs such as the Annual Meeting, we will continue to monitor the COVID situation and finalize our plans for an in-person offering early next year. Karl Bublitz Section President
Message From SFPGA Director Geoff Lofstead Dear South Florida PGA Family, It is hard to believe another year is coming to an end, a year none of us could have ever anticipated. As we do so, I wanted to take a moment to share with you some key highlights along with information on the impact the pandemic had on the game of golf along with Section operations. In early March operations came to a halt with so many unknowns ahead. At that time, 39 junior golf events were canceled along with a Section Pro-Lady, ProOfficial and Pro-Assistant, none of which were ever conducted. For seven weeks, time was spent understanding the impact COVID-19 was having on you and your facilities and determining the best ways our team could support you as you were maneuvering through unchartered waters. After much planning and preparation in the development of new policies, procedures and protocols operations got back underway on June 7th and moved forward successfully throughout the year. Our events looked different administratively but were very successful with increased field sizes and standard purses being distributed. Both the Section and Foundation thrived due to the increase in golf rounds being played, knowing golf provided a safe outlet for individuals during a very challenging time. As we look ahead to 2021, we are optimistic that we will be able to work toward more normal operations with a goal of being able to conduct our outreach programs including Smiling Fore Life and PGA HOPE and plan to kickoff off our Nineth Habitat for Humanity home build project in Charlotte County this May. We have a great lineup of facilities prepared to host our events, and we look forward to being back with you all starting in mid-April.In closing, we hope you all have a great season and remain healthy. Message from chapter officers SOUTHEAST CHAPTER Happy Holidays to all our Southeast Chapter Members and Associates, As we inch closer to 2021, I’m thankful for the teamwork we as SFPGA Members displayed over the past 9 months. This year marked a time none of us have ever experienced and hopefully never will again in our lifetime. That being said, our Chapter is evolving and pivoting with the times. You can rest assured our Chapter Board is strong and together in all our decisions. The volunteerism has become contagious. We are happy to announce that we have the most Professionals offer to volunteer to work with our committees than ever. Your Chapter Board has met numerous times to best place these Members into the strongest possible role for directions and future growth. It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve this South East Chapter and on behalf of Ben Bauer, Paul Crespo and our numerous committee members, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Feel free to reach out to me or our Board for any item that might be on your mind. I know we all communicate and stay in touch through various ways, keep us in the loop as much as you can. SOUTHWEST CHAPTER As 2020 comes to an end, we look back on what has been a difficult and interesting year, to say the least. But what we have discovered is that we can survive the bad times and we are able to quickly adjust to circumstances that arise around all of us. We should proud as an Association and as individual Members to have such an accomplishment. I am choosing to believe that 2021 will be better and things will slowly return back to normal. I state that I choose to believe because it would be so easy to get mired in the uncertainty that surrounds us and find all of the negatives that are currently in our world. My hope is that you all can do the same – believe that we are on our way to better times. We look forward to a normal summer when we can once again setup a tournament schedule that allows us all to do something we love – play some golf! I am happy that we have formed a new Tournament Committee which will feature David Weiss, Andrew Filbert, Danny Butts and Zach Hammerberg as well as Senior Tournament Chairperson Perry Smith and Assistants Chairperson Sean O’Donnell. This group of Pros have already started to form new ideas and will begin working to secure sites for next summer. If you can help in that regards, please reach out to me or any one of these gentlemen so that we can assure a great summer of play. Lastly, my term as President will come to an end at the Spring Meeting, which means it will be an election year. At some point in the near future there will be a communication that will detail how one can make themselves available for service to the Chapter. South Florida PGA Player of the Year Alan Morin recently won the South Florida PGA’s Omega Player of the Year Award and Senior Player of the Year Award. This is not a recording. It just seems that way. Morin won the award for a record 10th time. No misprint: Ten, extending his own record (Roger Kennedy won four). Morin wasn’t finished, either. The 51-year-old Wellington resident also became the first player in 10 years to sweep the South Florida PGA’s top award in the regular and senior divisions. Stuart’s Jerry Tucker was the other golfer to do so, in 2010.
"It's quite an honor to become just the second player to win both awards,” Morin said. “This has got to be one of the top sections in the country. There are so many great, players.” - Alan Morin
For a guy who never took a golf lesson growing up, Morin has done quite well. The self-taught golfer won his first POY in the South Florida PGA in 2002, and he repeated the next two years.He was just warming up. Morin also won in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016 – each POY earning him a spot in the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic at PGA National Resort & Spa. Morin doesn’t appear to be slowing down. “I try to keep it simple,” Morin said. “Being self-taught, I don’t get wrapped up in trying a lot of different stuff. I’ve learned what I can do and what I can’t do.”

Member Spotlight JOHN MOSCOSO John Moscoso, PGA Director of Instruction Golf Academy USA at Killian Greens Golf Club, Miccosuke Golf Club and Miami Springs Golf Club and member of the Southern Chapter has a big heart and passion for growing the game of golf through working with junior golfers in the area. Through his multiple roles, he has given back selflessly to the community and he has taken on the role of a mentor to many. This past year, Moscoso was honored with the Conrad Rehling Award which honors the late PGA Master Professional who followed a successful collegiate coaching career at Florida and Alabama by transforming his retirement into inspiring PGA Professionals to give back to those with intellectual and physical disabilities. Last year, Moscoso celebrated his 10th year of involvement with Special Olympics Golf. He is responsible for coordinating and hosting the Miami-Dade County Special Olympics Golf, which is a nine-week training and state qualifying program. This event draws in more than 800 athletes. Thank you John for your dedication and contributions to growing the game of golf.

Education Gone Virtual Online Education seminars proved to be a huge success during the 2020 year In an effort to continue to provide learning and MSR opportunities despite the ongoing pandemic, the SFPGA hosted multiple online educational seminars over the course of 2020. These webinars featured speakers from a wide array of backgrounds covering multiple topics, including growth in the golf industry and how to create your own brand. A day with the golden Bear Jack Nicklaus Hosts Military Veterans in Celebration of Veterans Day and the 4th Annual PGA National Day of HOPE The 4th Annual PGA National Day of HOPE was celebrated on Veterans Day and was highlighted by all-time major Champion Jack Nicklaus recently hosting three military Veterans at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida, for an experience of a lifetime. Nicklaus thanked each Veteran for their service, shared instructional tips and even introduced them to 2017 PGA Champion Justin Thomas, before sending them out for an exciting round of golf on the Championship golf course. Among the golfers were Navy Veteran Carl Wolf, of Cape Coral, Florida; and Army Veterans Christina Olivarez of Atlantis, Florida, and Dave Thomas of West Palm Beach, Florida. All three are graduates of the PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) program, the flagship military program for PGA REACH. SFPGA Patriot Award recipient and General Manager at Coral Oaks Golf Course, Allen Manguson, PGA also joined the group for the exciting day.

2020 Annual Awards 2020 ANNUAL AWARD RECIPIENTS HONORED Although the Annual Awards Dinner was canceled this year, Annual Section Award recipients were still named and honored for their service and dedication to the game of golf. In an effort to properly recognize these deserving individuals, Section staff has and continues to travel to club gatherings and other events where they honor award winners in front of their members and peers. PGA Lead BRIDGET ACKLEY, PGA SELECTED FOR PGA LEAD COHORT VI Bridget Ackley, PGA Teaching Professional at Don Law Golf Academy is one of 15 PGA Members selected for the PGA LEAD Cohort VI, Class of 2021-2022. PGA LEAD is designed to mentor and assist Class A PGA Professionals from diverse backgrounds in ascending to and through the volunteer leadership ranks of the Association governance. Ackley’s push to apply for PGA LEAD came from her long-time mentor Stephanie Jennings, PGA. Jennings encouraged her to apply as well as become more involved within the South Florida PGA Section. After much consideration and input from other PGA Members, Ackley decided it was time to apply and share her story in hopes to normalize the role of a strong, female leader in a maledominated industry as well as to provide inclusivity for members of the LGBTQ+ community. For Ackley, the most rewarding aspect of being a PGA Member is the opportunity to share her love and passion for the game with everyone who aspires to advance. More specifically, with the juniors she encounters. “Being able to watch a child fall in love with the game, whether they are in the early stages or looking to advance their skills, is a special moment I look forward to on a daily basis at Don Law Golf Academy,” said Ackley.
Ackley knew at an early age she wanted to pursue PGA Membership. Even more so, she wanted to continue giving back to a game that has provided her endless joy and countless opportunities. While Ackley is eager about the opportunities ahead, she is looking forward to developing her presence within the PGA the most. Her first official interaction with her PGA LEAD Cohort will be during the week of the PGA Merchandise Show. “These individuals are strong and like-minded,” said Ackley. “They want to create some type of change within the PGA, even if only on a Section level.”
Ackley continues to surround herself with strong and passionate people. People who are passionate about chasing their dreams and trying to create some type of change within their respective careers. “Creating some type of change for women and LGBTQ+ members within the golf industry has always been a dream of mine,” said Ackley. “I look forward to making those dreams a reality.”

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2020 SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP The 15th Annual North/South Florida PGA Senior Challenge Cup Matches were held at Belleair Country Club on October 26 and 27. The Challenge Cup Matches are a long-standing tradition between PGA Professionals from North and South Florida. The format includes 36-holes of match play competition consisting of nine holes of team scramble, team four-ball match play, modified foursome matches and singles matches. North Florida claimed the win 15.5 to 14.5.
CHALLENGE CUP The 40th Challenge Cup Matches presented by FootJoy were held at Club Pelican Bay on October 21 and 22. The Challenge Cup is a long-standing tradition between PGA Professionals from North and South Florida. The format includes a first-round four-ball match play, a second-round foursome match play and a third-round singles match play. After several close matches on the final day, The North Florida PGA took home the cup with a 13 to 11 win.
NIP AND NEWTON WIN SFPGA JUNIOR TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP The SFPGA Junior Tour completed the final event of the season at Banyan Cay Golf Club and Resort in early December. The Junior Tour Championship, presented by The Honda Classic featured 105 of south Florida’s top junior golfers. James Newton of Palm City secured the boy’s overall 1318 division title with a four-under-par 68 for a two-day total of 140. Newton finished three strokes ahead of fellow competitor Noah Kent of Naples (143). In the girl’s 13-18 overall division, Gloria Nip of Port St. Lucie won the overall division title after a sudden-death playoff. SFPGA TOPICS

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2020 WOMEN'S SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP Jenny Suh, PGA of The Dye Preserve claimed the 2020 inaugural Women's Section Championship title. Suh carded a 66-72 to go six-under-par for the tournament. After enduring some tough weather conditions during round one, Suh went on to post seven birdies, five of which were on the back nine.
SOUTH FLORIDA PGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP Tyler Collet, PGA of John’s Island Club picked a perfect time to win his first South Florida PGA tournament. The Vero Beach resident fired a 3-under 69 at Broken Sound Club - Old Course to win the season-ending South Florida PGA Professional Championship. Collet birdied the 16th hole on the Old Course and finished at 7-under 209 to win by a shot over two players. “It means everything,” Collet said. “It’s the biggest tournament I’ve ever won. I love the Section. I’ve been here four years. It’s an honor to win the Section Championship.
MICHAEL KARTRUDE WINS THE TECHNOGYM FORT LAUDERDALE OPEN Michael Kartrude of The Bear’s Club capurted the top spot to win the TechnoGym Fort Lauderdale Open. The Assistant Golf Professional at The Bear's Club shot a 3-under 69 on the final day of the event to win the South Florida PGA major by two strokes at 10-under 134. Kartrude put himself in position to win with birdies on the 15th and 16th holes that left them tied with two holes to play.

THE BIRDIE CLUB IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY WHILE DOING SOMETHING THAT I LOVE AND AM PASSIONATE ABOUT.” - ALEX HEARD Alex has proved to be a champion both on and off the golf course. Between the years of 2016, 2017, and 2020 Alex has raised over $15,000 for the SFPGA Foundation through the Birdie Club program. This year, Heard raised over $3,000 for the SFPGA Foundation.

Brett Moore went above and beyond for his community in 2020, raising over $1,500 for the South Florida PGA Foundation through the Birdie Club. “With something like COVID, I felt it was important to raise money to support people. I get to give back to the community while doing what I love and I think that is important.” - Brett Moore The Honda Classic Most Improved
Layla Pedrique won two SFPGA events this year as an individual and was on the winning team for both SFPGA High School Championships where, during the East Coast Championship, she carded a 63! Pedrique’s scoring average dropped four strokes between 2019 and 2020. Tyler Mistretta won his first-ever SFPGA event this year at the Doral Junior Open and had a low round of a 67. Mistretta went from averaging over-par in 2019 to a below-par scoring average in 2020 which has helped guide him to the next level, signing to play with Florida Southern University next season. “It’s a huge step for me to improve that much during this time. I plan to use my tournament experience at the next level as tournaments are like nothing else in golf and you have to play a lot of them in order to get good at them” - Tyler Mistretta Ed Ficker Sportsmanship Award
Erin Marcelino is a pleasure to have on and off the course as she always has a smile on her face no matter how she played. Everyone on the SFPGA staff agreed that Marcelino was deserving of this award. “I like to respect others, especially in an organization that helps to develop young golfers like myself. I would like to take the lessons learned in this game to college and into my life in everything I do.” - Erin Marcelino
Chase Cohen is always polite, whether there is a scoring issue challenges with slow play, Cohen I always first-class, allowing all players who are paired with him to have a joyful experience.

Signing Off SFPGA JUNIOR TOUR MEMBERS COMMITT TO PLAY AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL As the SFPGA Junior Tour 2020 season comes to a close, many members look to continue their golf journey and recently committed to play golf at the collegiate level. We thank them for their our support for our Junior Golf programs during the 2020 season, and congratulation them on their signing. We look forward to being back out on the course with our junior golfers during the 2021 season.

Section Corner 2021 South Florida PGA Section Tournament Schedule Preview
As 2020 comes to a close, the 2021 SFPGA Section Tournament Schedule is starting to take shape and we’d like to share some dates and sites for planning purposes next year. 2021 brings another great slate of sites for our “Majors.” The major tournament season kicks off with the Fort Lauderdale Open on May 3-4 on the newly renovated North Course at Fort Lauderdale Country Club. The E-Z-GO South Florida Open returns to Bonita Bay Club – Naples (Sabal & Cypress Courses) on June 22-24. The SFPGA Professional Championship will head to BallenIsles Country Club (East & South Courses) on September 14-16. We’re looking forward to another great season of events and wish you all the best of luck with your upcoming seasons. Other notable events:
