problem
gas stoves are a source of danger and worry It is far too easy to leave a burner on after cooking is done. An unattended flame can rapidly become a full blown house fire. 2
Daniel Ziperovich
Even when the flame is put out, the gas may still be left on, causing another dangerous situation.
persona Jim
environment
Jim suffers from the early stages of Alzheimer’s and resides with his daughter and son-in-law. He has used the same stove for decades to make his egg breakfasts, but recently his daughter has been finding the burner left on. He would like to keep his morning routine but is concerned about the possible danger to those he lives with.
“I just need to be reminded to turn off the stove so that no one has to worry. 3
Daniel Ziperovich
The kitchen is the center of the home, and the stove is its heart. This environment is fast paced and frequented by every member of the household.
The stove is located in a central island or along a wall with a back splash.

a gas leak is detected and Ranger sounds an alarm immediately.
connectivity
The user provides Ranger contact information through a web app. This enables Ranger to use Twilio to place an automated voice call to the user’s phone in the event of an unattended flame or gas leak.

paper hot cups can leak while on the go
age: 27 location: San Francisco occupation: public relations Kalie is a young professional, a trendy millennial and a digital native. With a recent promotion at work she can now afford to live within walking distance. Her morning routine always involves a to-go coffee which she drinks on the walk to the office. In the busy commotion of the city sidewalks Kalie worries that her coffee will spill and stain her outfit. When she is not in the office she will often lay out in Delores Park or work remotely from a cafe. But wherever sheW is, she usually has a cup of coffee in her hand.
“Ugh! I only spilled a few drops but this top is ruined.

user experience For AndrĂŠ, charging his devices had become a chore. Plugging in at the end of the day meant finding cords that had fallen to the ground and shifting the clutter that had accumulated. With the lightstand, he now has a dedicated home for each device. USB ports at every level allow him to use short charging cables which are much easier to manage.
