Dear Members,

Greetings to you and your family for what I wish will be a fantastic new year!

Moving back to dining for groups of five pax this last month, the Clubhouse was once again buzzing at full capacity with every table in our F&B outlets occupied with Members, their families and guests. Sports activities and camps safely resumed and our festive events and activities for adults and kids, both the physically-held and virtual ones, were well attended.

As we start the new year, do take note of the permanent closure of Fullerton Road and Anderson Bridge to vehicular access. Members will now need to drive to the Clubhouse via Parliament Place. For more information, please refer to page 5.

We have been strategizing for the new year, and to help us ensure we meet our Members’ needs, we launched a Club Survey in November with question segments covering every aspect of our Club life – including sports, events and activities, F&B, facilities and other services. About when you receive this Padang magazine, you would still have a few days to submit the survey, if you haven’t already done so. Your feedback via the survey would help the General Committee and Club Management serve you better. As a little bonus for your efforts, 20 participants stand to win a $50 F&B voucher each in our Survey Lucky Draw. The survey link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/J366B3B

We have started evaluating the many proposals which Members had sent in for alternate uses of the former Jackpot Room. Suggestions range from a multi-function activity room, a golf simulator, library and reading room, business centre, member’s bar etc. We are carefully considering your ideas and will be sharing the final decision after further consultation with the Membership.

In the meanwhile, Lunar New Year festive preparations have kicked off. Our F&B team have put together a delectable menu of takeaway options – including cookie goodies, various types of Chinese roast meats, and yusheng platters. You can also enjoy your reunion dinners with our Steamboat set menus and dine in with our Chinese ala carte specials. Exactly a year ago, in my address to you in the 2021 Jan/Feb issue of our Club magazine, I talked about how we were seeking to develop more contact points to SCC for the wider segment of the Membership. Since then, the SCC Book Club has flourished, as well as other activities such as our SCC Running & Brisk Walking Club, Trail Walks, and Cycling Club. In that issue, I also raised the possibility of starting new interest groups such as Chess and I am happy to announce that since then, we have started the SCC Chess Interest Group which meets regularly most weeks. You can read more about it on page 30.

Our community outreach and engagement activities are also continuing. In addition to our work with the Willing Heart soup kitchen, we got involved late last year with Project Blue WaVe movement’s regular activity to kayak along Marina Bay, pick up rubbish and clean the waters. Member participation was positive and we are continuing with this this year, so do join us.

We have also, in partnership with ItsRainingRaincoats - an initiative that aims to improve the lives of migrant workers in Singapore, donated our under-utilised pool table to a dormitory located in Kaki Bukit. We hope the migrant workers will enjoy their much-deserved breaks and relax while playing pool.

On behalf of the General Committee, I would like to thank all Members for their strong support and patronage of the Club and participation in everything we’ve organised this past year despite all the uncertainties and pandemic-related rules we have had to navigate together.

We see a brighter year ahead as we shake off pandemic fatigue and look forward to stepping strongly into 2022 with you. I wish all Members and their families a Happy New Year and abundant good health, happiness and success.
