Letter from the President
Excitement always accompanies the beginning of a new academic year, and this fall, the momentum is multiplied by the addition and renovation of important spaces on campus. As we work toward our strategic goal of becoming the first open, inclusive, comprehensive, polytechnic university in the entire nation, new facilities provide the space necessary to offer our students amazing experiences that exemplify our “active learning. active life.” approach to education.
In addition to providing students in all academic disciplines with hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them to graduate career-ready, our polytechnic focus prepares students to fulfil the healthcare, science, engineering, and technology workforce needs that our area employers so desperately need. Our state-of-the-art Science, Engineering & Technology Building opened this semester and will give students access to the cutting-edge equipment and premier learning opportunities they need to be prepared to meet this workforce demand upon graduation. Under construction since October 2019, the five-story building offers classrooms and twentyeight specialized labs, such as a gross anatomy lab, that more than triples the size of our current facilities. This functional facility will quickly become a favorite study spot for many of our students.
Providing a home away from home for 534 Trailblazers, Campus View Suites II also opened this fall. Building off the success of the first Campus View Suites building, which welcomed 352 students in 2016, this facility offers suite-style living quarters as well as common recreational spaces that certainly will facilitate DSU’s unique “active learning. active life.” experience. In addition to offering more students the opportunity to experience the sense of community,
