1. Roll Call a. Call to order at 4:00PM 2. Visitors and Guest Speakers a. Brian Houze: Budget Training i. Brian: Reviewing appeals for budget decisions made by the Allocations Committee. Several of you have heard this already, so I would appreciate your attention for the newer folks who have not heard this. ii. SAF 1. Where all of the student organizations’ dreams come true. Way to finance events and programs on campus. Comes directly from undergraduate tuition dollars. Idea to provide equal opportunity for funding for any group that is recognized as a student org, regardless of how many members the group has. iii. Budget Requests 1. Submit budget requests on OrgSync. Have to meet a few basic guidelines and requirements. Deadline for every funding cycle. Needs to be documentation for line items being requested. Basic description of what the event is, how it supports the mission of the organization, supports holistic experience of undergrad population. iv. Allocations Committee 1. Those of you who review these budget requests and are trained to understand funding guidelines of SAF. If it will benefit two people and costs a million dollars, probably not a responsible use. Something that’s specifically just for that organization, so that’s not what the SAF is for. v. Submitting an Appeal 1. Org has an opportunity to appeal the funding decision. Five days to submit the appeal. Has to meet the stated deadline. That deadline is today within an hour. vi. Grounds for Appeal 1. Procedural Error: student org needs to show that the Allocations Committee stepped outside their operating guidelines 1. Ex. Every org is offered a budget hearing. If a group requested a hearing and was not offered one, considered procedural error. Committee will just own it because it’s an honest mistake on behalf of someone in the room. 2. Line Item Appeal: reduced funding amount to a point where it is no longer useful to them at all 1. Claim that committee reduced funding to somewhere that they might as well have gotten zero. A thousand dollars for a guest speaker, cant bring half of a person for $500. Anything less than $1000 is not helpful to them at all. i. Sen Bosnich: If you’re funded zero dollars, can you do a line item appeal? 1. Brian: You cannot. For efficiency’s sake and to make the process meaningful. vii. Important Notes 1. A number of things an org can put in a request that are varying levels of importance to that event happening. Bring in three scholars from around the
