1. Roll Call a. Call to order at 4:06pm.

2. Visitors and Guest Speakers a. RSO Appealers i. Sigma Chi – A Night at the Game: Bulls Outing – procedural error (Grayden Smith) 1. Grayden: Initially requested $10,000 for 200 Bulls tickets to host a night at the Bulls game to provide students with a cheap opportunity to go to the game.

Denied full line item. Hosted event for last three years, every single time was more successful than the last. Have gotten some funding every time. Value of friendship – opportunity for people to go out, engage student body with the city.

Explore sports and create experiences despite not having money to buy the tickets themselves. Not many opportunities to get tickets from the Damen desk. Has always been really successful. Provide opportunity to explore the city, sports culture.

2. Senator Black: Could only fund 24% of the budget requests received. $460,000 in budget, allot $105,000. Extremely tough cycle. This request would have been over $50 a person, over the $20 per person guideline. Significant budget restraints. Would’ve been over 10% of the funding for this cycle. Trying to be fair to all student orgs and everyone since it is their tuition money. Filed as procedural error, but was not stated in the appeal what the actual error was on behalf of Allocations.

1. Sen Bosnich: Everyone who appeals gets a hearing, correct? i. Sen Black: You have the option of having a hearing.

2. Sen Bosnich: Did you have a hearing? i. Grayden: I didn’t know about the option.

3. Sen Bosnich: Did you make the value of friendship clear in your actual request? i. Grayden: Yes. I stated that friendship is our value.

4. Sen Black: Your organization did have a hearing. On November 15th and 16th. i. Grayden: Oh, prior to the decision. Yes, I did have a hearing then. ii. Loyola Women in Science and Mathematics – We for She Campaign – line item appeal (Amanda Koenig) 1. Amanda: We for She event inspired by He For She event started by UN Women.

Goal to educate Loyola community that feminism empowers everyone, not just women. Asked for about $1300 for food. Thirty-two co-sponsoring organizations.

We acknowledge they will bring a lot of their members to the event, will have a lot of attendance, those students are very welcomed by our mission and they are aware of what feminism is, but the success of this event hinges on a high attendance especially by students on campus who are not as aware about the message of feminism. Asking for funding for food to motivate people who may not be as willing to go to a feminism event.

2. Sen Black: Line item appeals that have been zeroed out do not fall under the guidelines for what a line item appeal is. We did not fund any of the funding requested for cinnamon rolls. Because the line item was not funded at all, this did not follow the grounds for a line item appeal. Budget constraints – funded them for $2400 for the rest of their event. Didn’t feel that food was integral to the event.

1. Sen Flowers: Have you requested donations from local restaurants? i. Amanda: We have a grant from the Wellness Center but that doesn’t cover food. Next step would be to ask for donations, we’re working on it.

2. Sen Bosnich: Did you attend an open house? i. Amanda: We had a hearing. We were given partial funding for the rest of the event, so I thought it would fit under the line item procedure. iii. Delta Phi Lambda – 10th Annual Taste of Asia – procedural error (Huanyi Zhen) 1. Huanyi: Promote Asian awareness on campus and around the world. Provide wide variety of food. Main audiences are orgs on campus. Free to all LUC students with an ID. Have performances, mainly on-campus orgs. During the hearing, we said we want to include more outside organizations. Would like the community to attend to include them. Misunderstanding during the hearing.

2. Sen Black: They had a hearing. Repeatedly mentioned high school students attending the event: “mostly outside people, a lot of high school students, and Loyola students as well.” Allocations Committee was under the impression that the majority of attendees would not be the Loyola student body, and SAF funds events are primarily for the Loyola student body.

1. Sen Torossy: It says they requested $1885.70 and that they were granted that. Is that a typo? i. Sen Black: It should say zero. I assume that’s a typo. iv. Free the Slaves – 7 Layers Captive – line item appeal (Kelly McCollum) 1. Kelly: Thanks for giving funding to our Human Trafficking Week. Appealing for $300 to pay for performer for a theatrical performance on survivors of human trafficking. She will be here for two days with her videographer and a speaker.

Hoping to appeal for the $300, initially requested $426, decrease that to $150 for two people for two days.

2. Sen Black: Line items that have been zeroed out do not fall under a line item appeal. We cannot take the outside information about reducing it to $300 because $426 was initially requested. This was food for the performer but there was $426 worth of food for one performer and a couple staff members, was not under contract with that performer yet. v. Gospel Choir – The Sound of Praise – procedural error appeal (Jade Kinney) 1. Jade: Spring concert every year. Requested $8,430 to cover fees for artist, band, food, and money to print fliers. In the past, we got at least half of our request.

This time we were fully denied. Our concert is also the use of music to praise

God. Brings the community together, use our songs to uplift and raise spirits. Very motivational event. Anyone can come. Fulfill mission statement to spread the word of God to everybody and we do this through concerts. Picked these artists because they gave us a special discount if we contacted them sooner. We are the only Catholic Christian organization on campus that does something for Easter. This is a more engaging way to bring the community together to celebrate Easter.

2. Sen Black: Filed under a procedural error appeal. We were not provided with a reason of how we failed to adhere to our guidelines. We did not fund it because of significant budget restraints. Comes out to over $56 per person. We try to adhere to $20 per person. Only 150 anticipated attendees.

1. Sen Bosnich: You mentioned being open to everyone and specific goals of the event – did you make that clear at any time? i. Jade: We did online, and mentioned it at the hearing. Not just Loyola students, also people from other colleges and people from community.

2. Sen Black: We didn’t have an issue with feeling like they were exclusive.

Not an issue of openness to Loyola students. Issue of budget constraints.

3. Sen Torres: What is it paying for? i. Jade: MC, artist and band, one small choir, other money for the band that plays music in the background, $400 for food (last time we had $300 for food and the food was all gone), $30 for printing fliers.

1. Sen Torres: Did you show proof for all of that? a. Jade:Yes, we submitted all the forms and letters online. vi. Hellenic Student Association – March 25th Greek Independence Day Celebration – procedural error appeal (Constantina Savas) 1. Constantina: Allocations Committee said that this event is exclusive to only members of this organization. The whole reason we have this event is to educate the student body, entertain student body; no point in holding it if non-members didn’t come. We order food that is traditional to Greek culture. Entices nonmembers to come, gets them immersed. Educate them on the holiday, Independence Day. Perform dances, no reason to perform them if there aren’t non-members there. We plan on advertising. Definitely not exclusive.

2. Sen Black: You have the option to have a hearing. They did not have a hearing.

We were missing some info that we felt was integral to making decision. They talked about making fliers, but we weren’t certain on how this would be executed.

SAGA has records of past events that have not reached the estimated number of attendees (150 people). We were unsure of how it would get 150 members there and not just the members. Not sure how non-members would be told about this event.

i. Constantina: Close to 150. That’s our goal and what we usually end up getting. We always run out of food.

2. Sen Cheng: Was this request for food and advertising? i. Constantina: And also a DJ who plays the songs while we dance. vii. Hillel – Holocaust Remembrance Film – procedural error (Adam Mogilevsky) 1. Adam: Appealing on basis of procedural error in efforts to get Holocaust Remembrance film on campus. We know it wasn’t the intention of Allocations to present us with a vague statement that the event was exclusive to the Jewish community, but we felt that delegitimized our mission statement of presenting students with education about Jewish cultures, traditions and history. Not mainly about Jewish culture, but about minorities and Jewish individuals within the Holocaust. Felt that it should be funded and it was not.

2. Sen Black: Allocations is equal rights and never trying to discriminate on anything. Not trying to offend an organization. Appeal did not say what the actual error was. No significant reason for the error on the Allocations Committee’s part.

We felt that food was not integral to the event. Worried about anticipated number of attendees; not confident enough in the advertising plan to get 100+ people there, so thought it might just be Hillel members attending. viii. Hillel – Passover Seder – procedural error appeal (Adam Mogilevsky) 1. Adam: Statement was too vague, did not align with what was being denied or approved. Have been doing Passover Seder for years. Has had a high impact on students.

2. Sen Black: Not an actual error stated on what the Committee did wrong. We did fund a dinner for over $3500 which was similar to the Passover Seder. We had given them a decent amount of money, wanted to be fair to other orgs. Budget constraints and lack of clarity on how numbers would be brought to this event.

Due to similar event that was already funded. ix. Karate Club – Self-Defense Seminar – procedural error appeal (Katrina Lim) 1. Katrina: President of Karate Club. Allocations denied because of budget constraints and event seemed exclusive to our members. We put fliers up, use social media, open to Loyola community. Many people who come to our events are non-members. Largely female population and a lot of females come because they care about self-defense, how to keep themselves safe. Filed a procedural error because it is in SAGA’s mission statement to engage and connect the student community beyond the classroom, and you can’t teach self-defense just by talking about how to stay safe.

2. Sen Black: Karate Club had four events. We denied all events because of significant budget constraints. For Self-Defense Seminar, we funded Karate Club for both SPOT cycles, so they received funding for both cycles. We asked them in their hearing what the turnout was, it was only 20 or 25 people but the cost was over $1000 so we felt it was mostly catered to members.

i. Katrina: To pay for the instructor. That is the amount they asked for. We could compromise with them, but we feel that all of our events adhere to our mission statement and Loyola and SAGA’s mission statements. The turnout this past semester was not as big as we wanted it to, want it to be bigger.

2. Sen Bosnich: Did you submit a detailed advertising plan? i. Katrina: We said we would do fliers and did elaborate on what else we would do. Wanted to expand it to utilizing SDMA’s and CAN newsletters. x. Karate Club – Karate Seminar – procedural error appeal (Katrina Lim) 1. Katrina: Had event in the past. Decent turnout but want to increase it. SelfDefense Seminar is about how to keep yourself safe in an urban environment and Karate Seminar is more a display of what Karate Club is and to encourage people to take an interest in martial arts, keep themselves healthy mentally, spiritually, physically.

2. Sen Black: Same reasoning as before. Turnout was not what we wanted. This does not state was the actual error was. By not funding, we were adhering to our guidelines. Strict policy that it encompasses as many Loyola students as possible, benefiting as many undergrads as possible. Turnout was only 20-25 people, were not comfortable funding this. Excessive use of the SAF per person. xi. Karate Club – Japanese Tea Ceremony – procedural error appeal (Katrina Lim) 1. Katrina: Cultural event, have had it at least for the past 15 years. Allocations said it was not funded due to budget constraints. Very conducive to Loyola’s mission statement and our mission because the art of karate is based on Japanese martial arts. Relate it because the practice and aesthetics of making a cup of tea is a spiritual and practiced experience; practicing through perfection, not just making tea and not just martial arts. Have had 60-70+ people come to this event. Without this event, the Loyola community would not be as exposed to Japanese culture as they could be.

2. Sen Black: Budget constraints. Anticipated number of attendees was not high.

Funded them for both SPOT 1 and SPOT 2. Suggest to reapply for funding for SPOT 1 and SPOT 2 in the spring; can still have the event if they reapply and get approved for funding in the spring.

1. Sen Shah: How would the $2000 be used? i. Katrina: It’s what the tea master asked for. Covers the tea, any other supplies he needs. We can ask if he can lower it.

2. Sen Bosnich (POC1): The event date falls after the next application? i. Sen Black: Yes. 3. Sen Bosnich: Expected attendees were 60-70, did you have plans for advertising and attendance expansion?

1. Katrina: Yes, what I said earlier about advertising. xii. Karate Club – Bunkasai Festival – procedural error appeal (Katrina Lim)

1. Katrina: Japanese Club does this event and asked us to co-sponsor it. We’ve never had this event before. It’s a Japanese cultural festival that involves music, art. Japanese club would handle food and decoration, we would do music. Classical Japanese harp player and drums. Money would pay for the music, did not ask for money for food because Japanese club said they would provide for that. Asked for advertising money, too.

2. Sen Black: It was not specified what error the Committee made. Significant budget constraints. Same reasoning as last time. Funded them two other cycles this fall.

1. Sen Torres: Why does it say prizes/honorariums line item? i. Sen Black: Copy Center and prizes/honorariums was listed. She was specifying the two line items.

2. Sen Bosnich: Anticipated number of attendees? i. Katrina: We’ve never hosted it before. We approximated 60-70. xiii. LASO – Taste of Latin America – procedural error appeal (Juan Guzman) 1. Juan: Denied complete funding for the Taste of Latin America. Appealing that decision on a procedural error because according to Allocations, we did not have proper documentation to go ahead with the funding. The reason for appeal is that the food is super integral part of the event. Main vehicle that attracts people to event initially. Usually it’s a speaker and dinner accompanied by presentation.

This year decided to collaborate with other orgs and the community. Total event amount was $1,851.73 but we only got reasoning for decision about one line item event. Surprising to us that we were denied funding for whole event based on that one line item.

2. Sen Black: Three line items – two food services and one general supplies. $1,263 for first food item; around $500 for second; $60 for general. First one for La Unica was the majority of the event. Did not receive a menu for entrees they were requesting. The event couldn’t happen without the food. Committee did make a mistake in not noticing that the menu had been placed in the comments section at the bottom of the budget request. Menu was not in the documentation section but was in the comments section. This was an error by the Committee. I apologize on our behalf. That is a grounds for procedural error. xiv. MSA — Taste of Faith – Islam Appreciation Week – procedural error appeal (Sharifah Abdallah) 1. Sharifah: Part of Islam Awareness Week. IAW is one of the largest and most anticipated series of events on campus. Has been happening for past 5-6 years, draws in hundreds of students. Appealing for a little over $1500. Kicks off the week, brings students together from all different faiths and cultures to show that Islam is one of the most misrepresented religions and shows that it is not just for Arabs, Middle Easterners, but it is encompassing. Get to taste food from all around the world and learn about Islam. Brings everyone together and is integral to our Islam Awareness Week. $1500 is just for the food. Mission statement to

enlighten students, panel of speakers will speak about their journey to finding peace. We get a very diverse audience, attendance is never an issue.

2. Sen Black: Was filed under procedural error but there was not an error presented by the organization. Not funded due to significant budget constraints. It was ¼ of what we could fund. We asked them to prioritize their events in their hearing.

Taste of Faith fell at the lower end of the spectrum for people who were at the hearing. xv. MSA – Bagged Lunches – procedural error appeal (Sharifah Abdallah) 1. Sharifah: Procedural error because the decision letter said Allocations was unable to relate how the event connects to the mission of the organization. Mission of organization to create a safe space for Muslims as well as students of other faiths.

Bagged lunches are my baby. It is a service event, extremely powerful, brought together over 20 student organizations. We assemble lunches and donate them to the homeless. Service aligns very well with our mission. Less than $700 that we’re requesting, planning to host two bagged lunches events in the spring semester.

2. Sen Black: In the hearing, we did not understand how this tied into the mission of MSA. We got that it was just an event to make bagged lunches and didn’t feel like we had sufficient information about how it tied into the mission.

1. Sen Bosnich: We’re not allowed to consider new information that was not heard in the hearing or in the original request. Did you make it clear how the event related to the organization’s mission? i. Sharifah: One of the questions is how it relates to the mission of the organization and we answered that question.

2. Sen Cheng: Two events in the spring? i. Sharifah: Yes, one of them is part of Islam Awareness Week.

Bagged lunches is a way for us to give back to the greater Chicago community as Loyola students. xvi. SASA – SASA Night – procedural error appeal (Janki) 1. Janki: Thank you for hearing our appeal. We have been told that we are the largest cultural organization on campus. We understand that ours is a line item appeal. We don’t believe Allocations created an error in not funding us, but we were not funded for our stage which is most integral to SASA night. Had around 200 members in previous years, 1000 attendees, majority LUC students. Wanted to raise more school spirit awareness, it’s time to bring it back to campus. Unable to showcase the dances, acts, skit without the stage. No place on campus that would hold the 200 members and the people who attend. Applied for appeal, went to the open house, discussed it with some of the Senators, talked about how to better our request. Talked to advisors in SAGA. Understand the stage is a big amount. Center Stage is a company that has come to Loyola many times. They told us it is an average amount and at the lower end of what they have asked from

Loyola in the past and it was funded in the past. Can’t have SASA night without the stage. This would’ve been the 24th year for the event.

2. Sen Black: SASA did an awesome job with their request. They asked for almost $30,000 for entertainment, significant budget restraints. We didn’t feel that we could fund it. Line item appeals do not abide to line items that have been zeroed out and this was zeroed out.

1. Janki: We didn’t think you did anything wrong, but there was no way to appeal this without saying it was a line item and having you hear us. i. Sen Black: Unfortunately, you cannot appeal line items that have been zeroed out. Not really anything the Senate can do to allocate it in full. xvii. LUCine – Campus Movie Fest – procedural error appeal (Miguel) 1. Miguel: VP of LUCine. Requested meeting with Allocations after submitting budget but never received email. Five year tradition at Loyola. Create a five minute short within a week. The films are screened in the Damen cinema, best three are sent to Hollywood to compete. We understand that $13,000 is a lot to ask for. We asked SAF to partially fund in the midst of $7,000.

2. Sen Black: Requested $17,871. The detail about partially funding it to $7000 was not said in the hearing. This is the first I’m hearing of it. We are looking at it as the full $13,000. Due to significant budget constraints. Only 50-100 anticipated number of attendees. Significantly over guideline of $20 per person.

1. Sen Torres: Campus Movie Fest is in the spring? i. Miguel: Always in the fall, but was denied last semester so we resubmitted for the spring.

2. Sen D’Onofrio: What happened with the meeting? i. Miguel: Said we wanted to meet with Allocations Committee but never received an email with time and date to meet. Brian Houze said we can appeal that if we never got an email.

3. Sen Tsarouhis (POC): Lowering it to $7,000 was not made clear at the hearing? i. Sen Black: No. 4. Sen Keelor (POC): Was there a hearing? i. Sen Black: Did not request hearing for first and third event, but they did for the second one. They never received the email to sign up for the hearings. Contacted Brian, he told them they could appeal for the event they requested a hearing for since they didn’t receive an email. Miscommunication with SAGA and their org.

SAGA sends out an email to all who request a hearing and their org did not receive this email even though they did request a hearing.

5. Sen Heider: You request a hearing on each request filed. On this specific submission, was this the one that had a requested hearing?

i. Sen Black: Yes, that was the one that they had requested but didn’t get the email to signup. Regardless, $13,000 was beyond what we could fund for our budget. Even if they had a hearing, still could not have been funded.

6. Sen Keelor: What if they told you about the $7,000 partnership in the hearing? i. Miguel: Trying to explain why the event was so expensive. Not a strict agreement but our partners know about the event and know we had problems funding it, said they would be willing to help but not the full amount.

7. Sen Keelor: Don’t have a specific amount they said they would fund? i. Miguel: No, it depends on how much money we get from SAF. 8. Sen Black: If they had a hearing, they would’ve said other departments were willing to sponsor but wouldn’t have been confirmed. It would have factored into our decision.

9. Sen Bosnich: You said it was the largest student film festival nationally?

On Loyola’s campus? i. Miguel: Biggest student film festival around the world. It’s on other campuses as well.

10. Sen Bosnich: Did they check the hearing box? i. Sen Black: Yes, for Campus Movie Fest, but not for two other events.

1. Sen Bosnich: the only point we can consider is that they requested a hearing, did not receive a hearing. a. Sen Black: Yes, and they were in contact with Brian who told them they could appeal because they didn’t get the email. i. Sen Bosnich: Strictly appealing on procedural error that they were not granted a hearing and should’ve been. ii. Sen Black: Yes 11. Sen Cheng: What was the deadline? i. Sen Black: November 24th at 5pm, last Tuesday was the deadline.

When Brian emailed them back about their complaint that they did not receive an email, he told them the date was November 25th instead of the 24th, so he did give them the wrong date.

1. Sen Cheng: Was the date 25th or 24th because we just heard a bunch of appeals for the 25th? a. Sen Black: I apologize, it was the 25th. They were informed that it was the 26th.

5. New Business and Discussion a. Budget Appeals Discussion i. Sen Torossy: I motion to close the meeting to the audience to visitors.

1. Sen Kelley (negation): I would amend that motion to any non-members of SGLC rather than specifically audience to visitors. Anyone who is not a member of SGLC. 1. Sen Torossy: I amend my motion to close the meeting to non-SGLC members.

2. Sen Bosnich (negation): Don’t think we did this in the past, and if we did, might be an issue of transparency. I don’t see a need to close the meeting. Keeping it open is a proper image of transparency.

1. Vote 11-9-5 to close the meeting. Meeting closed to all non-members of SGLC. b. Re-formation of Spring Elections Board i. Meeting re-opened. ii. Sen Baraki: I formally step down from the committee. c. Consistent Transparency i. Sen Santy: Not a fan of closing the meeting to non-SGLC members. Closing meetings is very counterintuitive towards our goal. Creating something in the Articles specifically stating whether or not we should remain open or closed during appeals. I feel that people should be present during these conversations.

1. Sen Kelley: Agree with Sen Santy. In the best interest of this organization and the student body to conduct our discussion on these matters in a forum that is open to the students whom these decisions impact. CRC will be spending time creating comprehensive reform and working with Allocations committee: What is and is not a valid appeal? How does the appeals process work? What are the guidelines?

Anything that is confusing or prohibitive in the transparency of the organization.

1. KC: Be sure to include SAGA in discussions.

2. Sen Cheng: Shouldn’t disallow student involvement because this is their government also. We can be more transparent.

3. Janki (Guest): Going along with this topic, we received an email yesterday about the appeals process and were told we would have time for a 1-2 minute speech, but when we got here were told we would have a minute speech. Told to us we would be allowed to stay for all of this, so when we get told to leave and people are looking back at us waiting for us to leave... Just some input from the student body and people involved in the appeals process.

1. Sen Cheng: I think what Janki just said speaks a lot to how things are functioning currently and we should keep it in mind. Think about this in the beginning of next semester. I’m tired of hearing myself talk, so you all probably are as well.

2. Speaker Murtaza: That email was from myself that told you 1-2 minutes. I did not know beforehand that we would be on a time constraint. I did need to adjust the amount of time I had to give each organization. I would like to apologize, my mistake.

4. Sen Keelor: Agree with Sen Cheng. Would like to see some legislation.

5. Attorney General Lynch: Got the sense that not everyone is as aware as they should be of the process. There is red tape that orgs have to cut through, that we have to cut through, seems like a messy process. Expecting orgs to cite something out of a handbook when they don’t know they have to do that seems like a disconnect. Appeals process serves a great purpose but there are some things that need to be addressed.

1. Sen Henry: The RSO handbook is available to every RSO that goes to the SAGA office. i. Attorney General Lynch: But how many organizations that are filing for funding know they have to cite something specifically out of the handbook or we will tell them no dice? It’s publicly available, but if they don’t know they have to utilize it, then it’s pointless. ii. Chief Justice Nasser: You can’t expect other organizations to have it memorized if you don’t know it yourself. We had to pass the handbook around ourselves during this meeting. Try to see the others as your peers. iii. Sen Tsarouhis: It is public, but we cannot assume every organization will actively read through it. We had to pass it around ourselves. It’s hard to go through a process based on that assumption. I agree that there is a disconnect there. Closer communication with Allocations, don’t know how that could be promoted more.

2. Sen Kimble: Agree there is a disconnect and double standard if some Senators don’t know the RSO handbook, but personal responsibility needs to be had by RSOs and Senators. Multiple opportunities to learn the facts.

3. Janki: We have looked through the RSO handbook, attended every SAGA meeting, last slide of CAN PowerPoint simply stated that appeals were due on this day. We go to everything but we’re not always informed on everything. Went to open house, spoke to Senators. When we were asked at the meeting what the rank of importance was, we said the stage. They thought the entire line item was the stage. $5000 of the $29000 was the stage. We were told to put it all in one line item, so that’s how we did it.

6. Sen Kelley: We are discussing three issues here – transparency, clarity and efficiency, and the actual budget itself. Transparency: Allocations process is made clear. The budget appeals form itself says “see RSO handbook page 38.” It’s very clearly provided to the RSO where they can get this information. SASA is exceptionally good at taking advantage of resources available to them. That

wasn’t the issue. The Committee was led to believe that the entire $30,000 was required for that stage. We were informed there was no way to reduce it. Let’s not discuss that on the floor since the appeal has already taken place. We work with a very, very, very small budget every year. It’s not just a matter of “Let’s have a process and let’s follow it.” That’s how it worked several years ago when organizations didn’t take advantage of the SAF, but they do now. Whether the SAF is large enough to accommodate the 235 orgs we have on campus is a separate issue altogether. I would agree that this body needs to consider and work on making the process efficient. Elements that are confusing, inefficient. Let’s not confuse these three issues in saying everything is a problem and the organizations don’t know what they’re doing or we don’t know what we’re doing. Transparency is not as much an issue when it comes to organizations knowing what to do.

7. Sen Kimble: Just to clarify, my statement was not towards SASA, it was towards the general issue of transparency.

8. Shiv (Guest): Question for Allocations Committee. Do you take into consideration past success at an event when you’re funding them? If an event has clearly shown success for many years as opposed to organization that have new events?

1. Sen Black: Yes. i. Shiv: Do you agree you would rather have a small amount of successful events rather than a large amount of unsuccessful events, generally?

1. Sen Kelley: I don’t think this is the appropriate forum to discuss that because you’re speaking to all of us, not just the Allocations Committee. We can talk about that in more detail. If you’re asking for a response on behalf of Allocations, you’re not going to get that here.

9. Shiv: Organizations that have had events in the past and shown success should be given precedence. SASA should be given precedence because we’ve shown success. There is a general consensus that you’ve been partially funding a lot of small events, making them unsuccessful rather than fully funding larger events and making them more successful. The smaller events won’t receive funding the next year because you will tell them their event didn’t attract enough attendees in the past, even though that was because you only partially funded them.

1. Sen Kelley: Regarding how Allocations allocated money in the past, very broad generalization. Nobody in this room except Allocations knows the full extent for the rationale to which how we allocate that money. To make a generalization and says the Committee prefers one thing more than another is not necessarily accurate. All of your points are valid, though.
