FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 23, 2015 Contact: Danish Murtaza Speaker of the Senate Email: dmurtaza@luc.edu UPDATE FOR THE SGLC SENATE MEETING ON MARCH 24, 2015 CHICAGO, IL - On Tuesday, March 24th, the SGLC Senate will be meeting in Mundelein Auditorium at 5:00PM. This is a unique meeting as it is meeting at a different time, as well as hearing an initiative that matters to a large population of our community. The SGLC Senate will be debating and voting upon a measure that will call upon the University to divest its holdings from companies that aid in the occupation of Palestine. Before the measure's formal debate, the Senate will be holding an hour long public commenting session. During this one hour session, Loyola undergraduate students will be able to speak for two minutes at a time on whether they are for or against the measure and why. There will be a list at the meeting where interested students can sign up; it also first come, first serve. We ask students to bring their IDs as they will be checked before they are allowed to sign up. After signing up, and after the meeting begins, we will go back and forth between pro-divestment speeches and anti-divestment speeches. After the hour is over, the Senate will then proceed into debate of the measure and its eventual vote. Lastly, we ask all audience members to remain civil and respectful throughout the whole process. If anyone has any questions or concerns beforehand or even afterwards, please do not hesitate to contact the Speaker of the Senate, Danish Murtaza, at dmurtaza@luc.edu. Thank you.
