Students Should Serve on the Presidential Search Committee

May 7, 2015 Mr. Robert Parkinson Jr. Chairman, Loyola University Chicago Board of Trustees Dear Mr. Parkinson, As you begin your search for a new university President, we want to extend our best wishes.

Your task is no small deed. Father Michael Garanzini’s replacement will hold an influential position that will define Loyola’s future. On behalf of the Student Government of Loyola Chicago, we believe it is crucial that students serve on the presidential search committee.

Students can greatly contribute to the presidential search by offering a unique perspective from their experience with student life, academic curriculum, university facilities, and our university’s shared governance system. Furthermore, students’ experiences and perspectives are essential because we play an integral role in the Loyola community.

Additionally, we recommend that there be faculty and staff representation on the presidential search committee. Staff and faculty also have indispensable perspectives on university matters.
