RHONDA CLASPER Artist Statement
My major focus is painting and drawing with a range of expression that uses tone and colour as tools. Charcoal, ink and wash, collage, clay marquettes, printmaking, textiles and tactile objects all find a place in the work. I have a passion for portraiture and life studies. The storyline of everyday life, to depict the secret moment, to capture the intimate moment of an action, to recall an event from the collective memories of family and friends, this will always be the grounding of my work. Multimedia work looking at memory and blood evolved from investigations into family genealogy. This led me to produce works that evolve from layers of handed down memories. I have obtained the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts and currently live and work in Sydney. Works were selected as a Finalist in the Noel Chettle Memorial Award for life drawing and painting in 2012 and 2013.
