2018 GRATITUDE REPORT To You, Our Caring Donors
Meet Jasmine, Donovan and their three children. They used to live in one room.
Donovan slept on the floor. Jasmine and Donovan are proud San Gabriel Valley residents who work hard to provide for their three children: Scarlet, Atticus and Cassius.
As a member of the Army Reserves, Donovan lives to serve and protect others.
Despite Donovan’s great service to his country and Jasmine’s hard work, sky-rocketing housing costs made it impossible for them to find a decent home here in Los Angeles County.
Jasmine, Donovan and their children often felt unsafe in their living conditions.
One day, Jasmine saw a Facebook post about Habitat for Humanity homeownership opportunities for veterans and other low-income earners.
They lived in one room. Little did they know, that Facebook post would change their lives forever...
After seeing the Facebook post, they applied for the opportunity. There were hundreds of applicants. Jasmine and Donovan didn’t think they stood a chance to become Habitat homeowners.
They were overjoyed when they were accepted into the program to build and buy their home with Habitat!
Their journey to homeownership was hard work, but full of excitement. They helped build their home and their neighbors’ homes from start to finish, right here in Pasadena, California! Jasmine, Donovan and the other homebuyers weren’t alone.
Thousands of strangers volunteered their time to help them build.
At night, Jasmine and Donovan took classes to prepare for successful homeownership. They learned how to budget. They received training from a life coach.
Jasmine and Donovan now have more than an affordable home of their own.
After 500 hours of construction and homebuyer education, the day had come!
In August 2018, Jasmine, Donovan, Scarlet, Atticus and Cassius moved into their new home with its big red door.
Gone forever were the days of living in one cramped room. They now have strength, after struggling to provide a home for their children.
Atticus loves his new house. He often says to Jasmine: Mommy I want to go home. I want to go home to our red door. While Donovan is off serving his country, he is now able to rest easy knowing that his family is in a secure environment.

They have stability, knowing that their children will always have a reliable place to call home. They have independence, because they can finally provide for their family and save for their future.
“It means so much to wake up in the morning and know that this is my house. It means so much to me....so, so much!� said Jasmine.

As a part of San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, our ReStores are nonprofit thrift stores that accept donations of new and gently used items.
Jasmine and Donovan struggled to find a quality and affordable place to live. They’re not alone. This means that families and individuals who hold steady jobs and pay their rent on time are being priced out of their homes and displaced from their communities.
The housing crisis is growing. Nearly 60% of LA county renters cannot afford where they live.

In addition to monetary donations, all revenue generated by our ReStores helps families just like Jasmine and Donovan’s. Donations are tax deductible and help local families build decent, affordable shelter.
With your support of our homeownership, home repair and ReStore programs, we can help families and individuals build bright futures right here in Los Angeles County.
Homeownership We partner with people in need to build or repair a place to call home. They invest 500 hours building their home and taking financial education courses. Homeowners pay an affordable mortgage and we re-invest those mortgage payments to serve even more families! Our homebuyers have a 100% success rate with no foreclosures to date!
Home Repair We bring new life to existing houses through our Home Repair program. Seniors, veterans and other low-income homeowners find financial relief and stability through low-cost, no profit home repairs Interior repairs, exterior repairs and weatherization
