Copy all the patterns on to some thin cardboard and cut out. Fold the linen cloth face to face and place the pattern of the plane on it. Fix with pins. Lightly draw the outline of the pattern, then sew along the whole perimeter excluding the front of the plane, as shown on the pattern with a dashed line (FIG.A).
FIG.A Cut the sewn pattern out leaving about 0.6cm of safety margin around the seam line. Using a pair of scissors, make some incisions around this margin.

The Alphabet of the Sea Patterns on page 97 YOU WILL NEED Linen cloth, a shade of grey Patterned cloth, striped, dotted or floral Synthetic wadding Thermo-adhesive paper Interfacing (e.g. Vilene) METHOD Cut out two squares of length 11cm from both the linen and striped cloth, then cut out one square of the same size from both the flower-patterned and dotted cloth. This will give you a total of six squares.
22
Double up the striped squares with some interfacing, by ironing it on the wrong side of the fabric. These will form the base of the cubes. By being more rigid than the others, they will give better stability to the entire cube composition. Following the General Instruction on page 7, decorate the two linen squa-
res by applying the first part of the lighthouse to one and the first letter to the other, using some thermo-adhesive paper.
