A Message from Mariko

Dear Partner Agents and Friends,

We welcomed 24 international students from eight different countries in Fall 2022. The enrollment at our school is certainly bouncing back to nearly pre-COVID-19 numbers. Strong enrollment is important, but we put extra effort into recruiting international students with diversity in mind. Keeping the student body at 90% domestic and 10% international, as well as setting our cap in each international market, will create a well-balanced school life environment for all students. We are an “American” school, not “International,” so at Kennedy Catholic we would like all international students to be fully immersed in American school life by joining sports, events, and after school activities which are in full swing this year.

This year marks my fifth year at Kennedy Catholic leading the Office of International Education (IE)! The first two years of our team’s hard work established a solid structure and strong foundation of our network internationally.

Because of that, I believe, we were able to get through the challenging COVID-19 period and I feel we are stronger today than before the pandemic.

For the first time in three years, we are actively recruiting students overseas while continuing to recruit students virtually. Our President/ Principal Matt Mohs is scheduled to visit Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan and our recruiting team, myself included, will be reaching out to other countries as well. We are revitalizing our network with our partner agents, alumni, current students’ parents, and volunteers.

Here are some of the highlights in this edition:

• Our website has a new look and new translation tool featuring 35 languages

• 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 School Year Fees: We are freezing the price for two years. Inflation is a big concern here in the U.S., but we also understand the strong U.S. dollar is a concern for most parents

• New promotional video

When to Give the Practice Test:

• If the student does not have a TOEFL/English score

• If the student has a low TOEFL or equivalent test score below 42

• If you are unsure of the student’s English skills and you want to determine their comprehension level

Tuition: $36,750

Housing: $12,500 (+ $300 one time set up fee)

Non-Refundable Enrollment Fee: $550

Capital Building Fee: $500

TOTAL: Approximately* $50,600 (including tuition, housing, and fees)

Add ESL Fee: $2,000 (for applicable students only)

*Approximate total due to exchange rates and bank fees

Welcome New International Students!

Students participated in a scavenger hunt on Bainbridge Island and learned about the fun tourist activities.

The

Office of International Education welcomed 24 new students from China, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Vietnam for Fall 2022 Semester. They enjoyed a busy orientation program full of placement assessments, advising sessions and fun activities to get to know one another. Students were able to tour Burien, University of Washington, and capped off the week with a ferry ride from Seattle to Bainbridge Island.

Join the club!

Participation in after-school “clubs” can be a transformational experience for students. High school clubs can benefit students in so many ways. They can provide:

• An affinity group to make and cultivate friendships

• A signal to colleges about what students are interested in

• A path to leadership within an organization

• A low-risk way to “test” a new interest in a topic

• A structure for students to start their own club

Kennedy Catholic has 50+ clubs and activities. A few of the clubs our students can become involved in are:

Washington State Fair

Itwas a fun-filled day at the Washington State Fair! Students got to experience the largest fair in the Pacific Northwest and the entire state! Everyone had the chance to enjoy exhibits, food vendors, craft vendors, live animals, games, and amusement rides.
