E L E M E N TA R Y S U M M E R B A N D P R O G R A M S MORNING SESSION: BEGINNING BAND | S T U D E N T S E N T E R I N G G R A D E 6 I N 2021 - 2022 AC A D E M I C Y E A R Time: 11am – 12:15pm Join Miss McKamey this summer for eight days of fun learning to play an instrument! Students from all schools and with no previous experience or at least one year of experience are encouraged to take part in this summer learning enrichment program. Highlights include: • Learning to play or brushing up on playing: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bells or snare drums • Making music with friends and making new friends • Keeping the dust off your instruments – after all we love them! Please note that musicians are responsible for bringing their own instruments. If you have questions, please email Miss McKamey at mckameyf@kennedyhs.org. AFTERNOON SESSION: VETERANS BAND | S T U D E N T S E N T E R I N G G R A D E S 6 - 9 I N 202 1 - 2022 AC A D E M I C Y E A R Time: 1–2:15pm Join Miss McKamey this summer for eight days of fun sharpening your skills! Whether your goal is to audition for Honor Band, keep your skills fresh over the summer or just be ready for School Band, we are here to help you achieve success! Students with at least one year of prior playing experience are invited to participate. Highlights include: • Developing and strengthening musical skills playing: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bells or snare drums • Making music with friends and making new friends • Having a competitive edge on School Band/Honor Band next school year • Keeping the dust off your instruments – after all we love them! Please note that musicians are responsible for bringing their own instruments. Current Beginning Band participants with prior playing experience are invited to request teacher approval to join Veteran Summer Band program. S U M M E R M A R C H I N G B A N D & CO LO R G UA R D SUMMER MARCHING BAND | C U R R E N T K E N N E DY C AT H O L I C S T U D E N T S A N D I N CO M I N G F R E S H M A N Summer Marching Band & Color Guard are a fun, and active way for band and color guard students, including incoming freshmen, to connect with Kennedy Catholic and the Lancer Band family! Students will have the opportunity to perform in parades throughout the Western Washington region including the Burien 4th of July Parade, the Kent Cornucopia Days Parade, the West Seattle Parade, the Chinatown Parade, the Summer Band Jams Event, and the Seafair Torchlight Parade Please note due to COVID-19 restrictions, some parades may be canceled or modified. We will only participate in parades if it is safe and restriction guidelines and protocols are followed. Marching Band This course will emphasize traditional marching music, physical fitness, and parade marching. Students will also work on music and movements for field-style, show marching. Color Guard This program, held in conjunction with Summer Marching Band, is open to both female and male students. Summer Color Guard will emphasize how to spin tall flags, rifles, sabers, and train in ballet, contemporary, jazz, and modern dance techniques. Registration fees will include shirts, shorts, and hair bows for girls. For Summer Color Guard questions, email Andrea Filer at filera@kennedyhs.org. SUMMER COLOR GUARD YOUTH PROGRAM | G I R L S A N D B OYS G R A D E S 6 - 8 The award-winning Kennedy Catholic Color Guard is hosting a six-week summer program, held in conjunction with Summer Marching Band & Color Guard. Summer Color Guard will emphasize how to spin tall flags, rifles, sabers, and train in ballet, contemporary, jazz, and modern dance techniques. REGISTRATION DATES AND FEES Participation in this summer program does not qualify high school students to earn academic credit. High school students interested in earning 0.5 Physical Education credit for participation, please refer to the Summer Programs Academic Courses catalog.
