ADULT BASIC & LITERACY EDUCATION The Adult Basic & Literacy Education (ABLE) program provides adults with a second chance to master basic skills such as basic reading, writing and math. These skills are needed to earn and maintain employment. ABLE also provides opportunities to obtain basic computer skills, meet entrance requirements for continuing education courses, including college studies, preparation for the GED test and more. With programs in GED preparation and testing, WorkKeys Assessments and Refresher Basics for College and Training, ABLE helps you establish a firm beginning to a new career or college pathway! The ABLE program is designed as a learning center where you will study in an informal setting to achieve the goals you have established and work at your own pace.

INTEGRATED SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY Program Description The Integrated Systems Technology (IST) industrial training program provides students with the critical skills required by systems technicians in modern industry. The IST program is North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) accredited and ISO-9000 certified. Basic Electrical AC and DC Circuits
Course: IST 3140 Hours: 20 An introduction to industrial safety practices, lockout/tag out procedures, terminology, safety regulations and requirements. Classroom based training.
Industrial Mathematics
Course: IST 3115 Hours: 30 Application of mathematical concepts to the manufacturing and maintenance of products and processes. Self-paced lab activity.
Course: IST 3150 Hours: 40 Introduction to alternating and direct current circuits utilizing Amatrol laboratory equipment along with multimedia computer based training. Multiple hands on laboratory exercises are included, which focus on the construction of electrical circuits. Circuits are tested using electrical test equipment. Topics include Ohm’s Law, series and parallel circuits, resistors, capacitors, inductors, relays, transformers and other electrical components.
Introduction to Electronics
Course: IST 3080 Hours: 30 Fundamental concepts of the PC, operating systems, and networks. Hands on training in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs to prepare reports and make presentations. Instructor led course.
Course: IST 3225 Hours: 20 Introduction to the function and operation of basic electronic components. Topics include resistor values, bread board and construction of electronic circuits, function and troubleshooting of electronic components including diodes, SCR’s, TRIAC’s, transistors, potentiometers, capacitors, resistors and bridge rectifiers. Basic Computer Applications
Course: IST 3320 Hours: 15 Introduces TPM topics including the difference between planned and unplanned maintenance, 5S philosophy, five different types of maintenance practices, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) calculations and the Pillars of TPM. Instructor led course.
Business English
Course: IST 3110 Hours: 30 Review of basic writing skills and grammar with an emphasis on technical writing skills. Microsoft Word is used to develop the tools and formats for reports, memos, and other technical writing. Lab based utilizing a workbook and PC with instructor interaction.
Course: IST 3151 Hours: 40 This course focuses on relay control of electric motor and pneumatic systems and their industrial applications. Students use a variety of industrial relay control circuits, schematics, ladder diagrams and Boolean logic to learn industry-relevant skills in installation, operation and performance analysis of motor controls systems.
Motor Controls II
Course: IST 3152 Hours: 40 This course gives the student a real world experience of troubleshooting and repair of motor control systems using a multi-meter in a three phase motor control system. The student learns to diagnose and repair problems in wiring, relays, transformers, switches, power supplies, variable speed drives and motors.
Basic Process Quality Control
Course: IST 3470 Hours: 30 Introduction to process control systems, instrument tags, piping and instrumentation diagrams, loop controllers, final control elements, level measurement, liquid level control, methods of automatic control, flow measurement and control and control loop performance. Emphasis on electronic instrumentation set-up and use.

Demonstrates how vibration analysis is used to increase machine reliability and reduce downtime as part of a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program. Course: IST 3250 Hours: 50 Utilizes Allen-Bradley SLC500 Programmable Controller and Amatrol simulation equipment along with multimedia computer based training. Topics include PLC programming, motor control, I/O interfacing, event sequencing and application development. Laboratory exercises provide many opportunities for the student to design and test PLC programs using timers, counters and various I/O devices. Also available with the Allen Bradley Control Logix 5500/ RSLogix 5000 PLC.
Programmable Logic Controllers Level 2 Course: IST 3251 Hours: 30 Advanced course in networking PLCs and troubleshooting PLC problems with the Allen Bradley Control Logix 5500/ RSLogix 5000 PLC.
Course: IST 3252 Hours: 40 Advanced industrial controls course that utilizes an automated production system that incorporates networked Allen Bradley MicroLogix 1500 PLCs, Device Net, a vision system, Mitsubishi robot, material handling conveyor and other electromechanical devices. This course is designed to enhance the troubleshooting skills of technicians who have mastered the basics of industrial controls.

Course: IST 3325 Hours: 55 Introduction to the basics of Orthographic drawings and the basics in using CAD tools. Fundamentals include drawing tools, dimensioning, text insertion, CAD design and drawing modifications. Lab based utilizing a workbook and PC with instructor interaction.

Course: IST 3101 Hours: 20 Introduction to the use of precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, scales, dial indicators, and others.
Mechanical Blueprint Reading
Course: IST 3410 Hours: 30 Introduction to the fundamentals of blueprint reading, symbols, orthographic projection, linear and angular dimensioning, coordinate tolerancing systems, sectional views, welding symbols and interpretation of drawing specifications.
Introduction to Machining
Course: IST 3420 Hours: 40 Introduction to the basics of machining. Includes machine safety, proper care of equipment, manual lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders. Two precision parts are machined using a blueprint. Finished parts must fit together and meet tolerance requirements. Instructor led lab activity.

Course: *11IST2200 Hours: 80 Students learn the basics of CNC mill and lathe machining operations.

Concurrent enrollment through Clark State Community College provides Integrated Systems Technology students with 23 hours of college credit upon completing a 900 hour certificate program. Students also earn Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) certification. *Indicates an elective in the 900 hour program.
Course: IST 3460 Hours: 40 Introduction to the basics of Oxyacetylene Welding and Cutting (OAW, OAC), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).. Course contents include safety; common welding techniques on different weld joints; surface preparation and grinding; plus metal identification and filler compatibility. Practices include material thicknesses from 16 ga. thru ½ inch on steel and aluminum in a variety of positions. Can also be customized for an indepth training in one or two areas.

HEATING, VENTILATION, air conditioning and
refrigeration (HVAC-r) The HVAC-R program is designed to train competent service technicians and installers to fill the ever-increasing need for knowledgeable “techs.� Students will be prepared to earn certifications that are highly recognized in the HVAC-R industry and will then have the opportunity to find a rewarding career in the field. A certified HVAC-R technician can most often have job security not found in many other careers, along with the freedom to relocate almost anywhere in the country due to the high demand for these skilled workers.

Environmental Applications will enable students to learn the environmental effects such as sun or humidity, insulation, lighting and ceiling fans on living structures. PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES PARAMEDIC CERTIFICATE PROGRAM Ohio Hi-Point has partnered with Clark State Community College to bring their Paramedic Certificate Program to the Bellefontaine Campus. This program provides quality education in the “art and science” of advanced out-of-hospital emergency care. The curriculum provides for integration of knowledge and skills including pre-hospital environment, preparatory skills, trauma and burns, medical emergencies, OB/GYN emergencies, behavioral emergencies and crisis intervention. Upon successful completion, the student will meet and exceed the objectives of the National Standard Paramedic Training Curriculum, providing eligibility for the National Registry Certification exam. Travel will be required for certain course work and clinicals. Medical Terminology and Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology are pre-requisite courses.

PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES First Responder
A first responder may provide limited emergency medical services to patients until the arrival of an emergency medical technician-basic, emergency medical technician-intermediate, or emergency medical technician-paramedic. In an emergency, a first responder may render emergency medical services such as opening and maintaining an airway, giving mouth to barrier ventilation, chest compressions, electrical interventions with automated defibrillators to support or correct the cardiac function and other methods determined by the board, controlling of hemorrhage, manual stabilization of fractures, bandaging, assisting in childbirth, and determining triage of trauma victims.
EMT Basic
An EMT-basic may determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establish priority for required emergency medical services. HEALTH OCCUPATIONS OHP’s Health Occupations Program features the opportunity for individuals to become trained in Health Information Technologies, which includes the management of patient health information. Individuals employed in related occupations work with health care records, payment history and delivery of services. There is a need for skilled workers in the health industry, specifically in health care facilities and medical offices. Health Occupations also offers programs in State-Tested Nurse Aide (STNA), a program approved by the Ohio Department of Health, and prepares individuals to take the state examination and work as a nursing assistant in the future. The newest offering is Pharmacy Technician training. Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of the pharmacist and have duties that include filling prescriptions, counting pills, measuring medications and labeling products. Pharmacy technicians also verify prescriptions and maintain patient records and insurance information and are employed in retail pharmacies, hospitals and extended care facilities. Other programs offered include Phlebotomy and a program to train to become a dining assistant in long-term care facilities.

This 48-week (800 hours) program prepares individuals for management of patient health information. Individuals employed in related occupations work with health care records, payment history and delivery of services. Each student will receive a laptop (price is included in the program fees) to be used at school and at home, and the student may keep their computer upon successful completion of the program. Employment opportunities exist in health care facilities and medical offices. Curriculum areas include Keyboarding, Communications, Computer Applications, Medical Terminology, Basic Human Anatomy, Human Diseases and Conditions, Medical Law and Ethics, Medical Transcription, Medical Coding, Administrative Medical Office and Insurance Billing. Program prerequisites include computer literacy and keyboarding skills, and completion of Work Keys testing in applied mathematics (Level 4), reading for information (Level 5) and locating information (Level 5). Program admission requirements include a completed application with a $20 fee, submission of a high school transcript or GED, completed reference forms, BCI/FBI criminal records check and a two-step tuberculosis skin test. This program curriculum is approved by the National Health Career Association. Students successfully completing the program may take a national certification exam for Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Billing and Coding, and Medical Administrative Office certifications.
State-Tested Nurse Aide • Classes held at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center and at our satellite sites in Marysville, Urbana and Kenton. • This 75- hour program, approved by the Ohio Department of Health, prepares individuals to function as a Nursing Assistant and to take the state examination. Nursing Assistants help to provide basic care related to the hygiene, grooming, mobility, and nutritional needs of patients. • Employment opportunities exist in extended care, acute care facilities, and in home health care agencies. • Pre-requisite: WorkKeys Assessment; a minimum score of a level 3 in applied mathematics, reading for information and locating information. • Participants must provide proof of a 2-step tuberculosis skin test prior to class participation, BCI/FBI criminal records check, and official high school or GED transcript. • Program components include academics, skills laboratory practice and clinical application. • State examinations are held at the career center following each scheduled class. Exam dates are to be announced.
Concurrent enrollment through Clark State Community College provides Health Information Technology students with 7 hours of college credit upon completing their program.

NANCY J. KNIGHT SCHOOL OF NURSING ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS: * Age 18 or older * Application with official high school transcript or GED on file * Pass WorkKeys testing with Level 4 or above. Work Keys testing includes applied math, reading for information and locating information. Approved by the Ohio Board of Regents and Ohio Board of Nursing, this 1440 clock hour program prepares graduates to pass the Board of Nursing NCLEX licensing exam and work as an LPN in a variety of health care settings. The Nancy J. Knight School of Nursing offers a day 44-week program at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. A 44-week program is also offered at our Urbana and Kenton sites. A 72-week dual enrollment PN to RN program with Clark State Community College is offered at our site in Marysville. Pre-requisite courses in Anatomy & Physiology and Computer Applications are required before the start of first quarter classes. There are different pre-requisite criteria for the dual enrollment. This criteria can be obtained from the program coordinator. Instruction includes concurrent clinical experience at area health facilities for Nursing Principles, MedicalSurgical Nursing, Maternal/Infant Health, Gerontology, Pediatric Nursing, IV Therapy, and Pharmacology. Additional coursework includes Nutrition, Microbiology, Mental Health & Illness and Growth and Development.

Class Enrollment
Each program and class has a minimum and maximum number of participants permitted. Classes will be cancelled and registration fees returned in full if the minimum number of tuition-paying students is not reached.
Fees
Some programs have fees associated with enrollment. All fees are noted in this catalog next to each class or program information. You should check with Student Services or program instructors for a complete listing of fees.
Financial Aid Specific Points
The purpose of financial aid is to supplement your and your family’s contributions toward your cost of education. Financial aid is offered to all eligible full-time adult students. Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s primary financial aid options include: Grants – Federal Pell Grant. Gift aid awarded on need-based eligibility criteria. Loans – Federal Direct Loans. Federal dollars borrowed directly from the federal government through the school. This loan represents debts that must be repaid. There are two different types of
Federal Direct Loans available for students, which include the Stafford Loan and the Plus Loan. The subsidized Stafford Loan is based on financial need, while the unsubsidized Stafford Loan is based on the student’s willingness to borrow funds to pay their college expenses. The Parent Plus Loan is for parents of undergraduate students borrowing to help pay their child’s education expenses. Other aid – Local agency funding such as offered through the WIA (Job and Family Services) offices, Veterans Assistance, and Trade Adjustment Act. Apply at local offices.

Application Procedure
To apply for Department of Education financial aid programs, complete the U.S. Department of Education’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Application can be made on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov or through the financial aid office. You and your parent (if applicable) should also get a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the Dept. of Education to electronically sign your FAFSA. If you are interested in Federal Loans, you will need to sign a Master Promissory Note at www.studentloans.gov.
To receive financial aid you must:
• Be a U.S. citizen, or an eligible non-citizen • Be enrolled in a full-time program • Have a valid Social Security number • Make satisfactory academic progress • Register with the Selective Service, if applicable • Not be in default on any federal loans or grants

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us find it difficult to take time away from work and family to attend school. One of the primary advantages of our Internet workshops is that you can “attend class” in the comfort and convenience of your own home and office. All you have to do is log into your online classroom when you are ready to read your lessons, complete your quizzes and assignments, or communicate with your instructor and fellow students.
