Shaker Village is a powerful place. For centuries, this site has inspired generations of Kentuckians to invent, build and sustain. The Pleasant Hill Shakers boldly blazed their own trail, and their profound spiritual ideas left a lasting imprint on the great American experiment. Their remarkable contributions to modern concepts of community, sustainability and ingenuity continue to compel society today.
GREAT THINGS HAPPEN HERE. The Shakers’ work shapes our work. Every day, Shaker Village works to preserve irreplaceable architecture. We also restore native habitats, promote fresh foodways, encourage healthy communities and provide a welcoming retreat. Most importantly, we share this site with trailblazers of all ages to inspire tomorrow’s learners, makers and doers. The 2017 Almanac is your annual guide to new adventures and experiences with a modern Shaker approach.
Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is a non-profit, landmark destination on a mission to inspire generations through discovery, by sharing the legacies of the Kentucky Shakers.
V I L L A G E Carpenters’ Shop Preservation The 1815 Carpenters’ Shop has held a front row seat to Kentucky history in action. This spring, the building will undergo preservation work, including the installation of a new wood shake roof; the repairing and painting of wood soffits, fascias and trim; and the repairing and painting of interior plaster, wood trim and casework. The project also includes refurbishing interior spaces to create a centralized welcome experience for guests to check-in, purchase tickets and learn about Village happenings. This preservation effort safeguards the building’s integrity, while creating a new level of convenience and functionality for guests and staff alike.

It is a village at work.
