OUR STORY Shaker Village has been a warm beacon of hospitality for more than 200 years. The Shakers welcomed guests and business travelers “of the world” to this property, hosting them overnight in the Trustees’ Office and around the dining table. During the early 20th century, these buildings and lands fell into private hands and some owners placed hospitality at the forefront of their business model while operating the Shakertown Inn in the East Family Dwelling. Since the 1960s when the nonprofit organization came into being, guests to The Trustees’ Table have been greeted by Micajah Burnett’s remarkable 19th century twin spiral staircases. Today, these preserved testaments to Shaker craftsmanship set the stage for a new farm-to-table experience anchored by fresh Kentucky ingredients and creative food collaborations. The Trustees’ Table is looking back to its roots to deliver fresh, flavor-forward dishes through a new community-based approach inspired by Shaker lands and lessons. updated October 1, 2017

Shaker Lemon Pie Shaker communities were efficient and economical, therefore they believed in using their energy and resources to the best of their ability. Take Shaker Lemon Pie, for example: like today, lemons didn’t grow in all regions of the country, therefore, when the Shakers got their hands on fresh lemons they used their time and resources wisely, utilizing every last ounce—including the seeds and rind—to make this simple yet delicious pie.
