FROM THE FARMER The Pleasant Hill Shakers were leaders in agricultural sciences and advancing livestock breeding techniques. In an effort to share this story, the farm is increasing its small herd of Red Durham Shorthorn cattle, a breed first brought to Kentucky by the Pleasant Hill Shakers. Three new heifers have arrived and are expecting calves early next year, just in time for spring! DAVID PARIS Livestock Supervisor

FROM THE GARDENER The summer harvest was good to us this year! We picked bushels of green beans, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, onions, okra and a variety of tomatoes that were served in the Dining Room. We even rounded up some wild blackberries that were used in a cobbler for our first Garden Supper of the season. The fall harvest looks to be just as abundant! DYLAN KENNEDY Garden Supervisor
