The 2015 Festival presents an expanded line up of 14 musicians from New York’s Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS), including CMS Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han. The Festival will be highlighted by a performance of Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring.

BACKYARD SUSTAINABILITY Long before the trendy farm-to-fork movement took off, the Shakers spent their days tending thousands of acres of vegetables, fruits and livestock, then preparing wholesome feasts for nearly 500 community members. Today, The Farm grows seasonal produce for The Trustees’ Table, just steps from the garden gate. Visit The Farm and discover organic gardening tips, four-legged friends and barnyard adventures for the entire family.

Sheep Shearing

APRIL 4–25 Visit the farm and see us shear our flock of sheep, then learn how the Shakers created colorful wool shawls and other textiles through spinning and weaving demonstrations.

Breakfast with the Babies

APRIL 4, 11, 18 + 25 Enjoy a kid-friendly buffet breakfast, then get a hands-on introduction to the newest additions to our farm family, including lambs, kids, chicks and more. Times vary, $10-20

Garden Trellis Workshop

JUNE 6 + 7 Join wild mushroom expert, Eric Osborne, for this hands-on workshop to learn how to cultivate your own mushrooms at home. Topics include gourmet mushroom cultivation, log inoculations maintenance, perennial mushroom beds and companion planting. Learn how to prepare mushrooms and taste with unique recipes. Pollinator Houses Workshop

JULY 18 Learn how to attract beneficial pollinators to your backyard and how to build a “house” to provide them with habitat in order to benefit your gardens. 10am, $20

Food Preservation Workshop

Pumpkin Smash

NOV 1 Have a smashing good time while helping Shaker Village re-purpose Halloween pumpkins, demolishing them creatively and making bird-feeders for our hungry migrating birds! 2pm

Beeswax Candle and Soap Making Workshop

NOV 28 Learn the basics of cold processed soap making, using all natural products such as herbs, beeswax and honey. 10am, $35

Herbal Health Workshop
