The Annual Plant Sale has been supplying Community members and the public with locally-grown, high-quality plants and trees since 2011. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) strives to be a good neighbor and a good steward of the earth. The Annual Plant Sale provides the SMSC with a great opportunity to share this message with the community. The plants are grown through environmentally sustainable practices to ensure respect and protection of Unci Maka (Grandmother Earth). The Plant Sale is a collaboration between SMSC enterprises and departments, including Wozupi Tribal Gardens, SMSC Organics Recycling Facility, and the Property Services Department.

Wozupi Tribal Gardens is a certified organic farm committed to growing food in a way that nourishes the earth, the community, and people’s minds and bodies. They opened in 2010 and are owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, a federally recognized, sovereign Indian tribe, located southwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. ZESTAR! APPLE TREE A wonderful, recent apple cultivar from the University of Minnesota. At last, an early apple that is crisp and juicy! Best known for its excellent sweet-tart flavor. Has a much longer storage life than other early apples. Excellent for fresh eating and cooking.
SNOW SWEET APPLE TREE Another example of the University of Minnesota’s expertise in the development of cold, hardy apple varieties. A cross between Sharon and Connell Red. Snow Sweet has a deliciously sweet, slightly tart taste. Slow to oxidize when exposed to air. Honeycrisp is a good pollinator. Above-average resistance to scab and fire blight. On a standard rootstock.
HONEYCRISP APPLE TREE An exciting apple that is exceptionally crisp and juicy. Flavor is sweet but well-balanced. Excellent storage life, up to 7 months. Has become an outstanding commercial and home orchard variety because of its explosive crispness, flavor, and storage life.
FROSTBITE APPLE TREE Frostbite produces a smaller apple with a sweet, unique, berrylike flavor. Crisp, firm texture, and juicy. Great for fresh eating, cider, or cooking. TAWARA ASIAN PEAR TREE The asian pear tree, grown mainly for its delicious fruit, has an upright oval form with glossy green foliage, which looks great all season long. White flowers in spring make way to the unusual dark tan to light brown fruit, tasting like a cross between an apple and pear. Excellent for fresh eating or canning. Asian pear cultivars are partially self-fruitful, but a better crop is set when two or more cultivars are planted together. Seckel is a good pollinator or use other European or Asian pears. SUMMERCRISP PEAR TREE Pears ripen in mid-August when still crisp and slightly green with a red blush. Fruit harvested at that time is sweet and juicy, and may be stored up to 2 months. Fruit is of a smaller size (2 1/2 - 3 1/2 inches long). Free of fire blight. Use either Parker or Patten as pollinator.

BLACKICE PLUM TREE BlackIce is a cross between a cherry plum and a conventional Japanese dessert plum, resulting in large fruit with superior winter hardiness and an early ripening date. Has been shown to be hardy and produce fruit in zone 3b. Naturally compact growth habit makes it easy to manage. Use Toka or American Plum for pollination. Height 8-12 feet. ANNE RASPBERRY BUSH Anne raspberry is a large-fruited fall bearer. Fruit holds a light yellow color and is highly productive. HERITAGE RASPBERRY BUSH This fall-bearing heirloom variety is popular among home gardeners. The fall crop is highly productive and ripens from the end of August and into October. JOSTABERRY BUSH Glossy round berries are firm, plump, and loaded with vitamin C. The rich berry taste is a blend of black currant and gooseberry flavor, sweet and satisfying. Fruits are abundant starting early July, usually the second year. Resistant to white pine blister rust.
