COMPOSTABLE PLATE SNOWMEN
Stay warm and have fun with this super-easy winter craft. Try using supplies you already have to make this, and teach your kids important lessons on recycling, reusing and composting. Get creative! Use paper grocery bags, old gift-wrapping supplies, or string and buttons from your junk drawer.
Supplies
Instructions
• 2 Plates • Ribbon for a Bowtie or Scarf • String • Hole Punch • Glue
• Black Construction Paper for Eyes and Buttons • Orange Construction Paper for Carrot Nose • Brown Construction Paper for Stick Arms
1
Start with two plates (preferably recycled, compostable paper). Stack them on top of one another to resemble a snowman (of course). Punch two holes on the edge where the plates overlap. Then thread strings through them and tie at the top to form a loop. Punch a hole on the top of the snowman’s “head” and pull the string through so you can hang it.
2
Flip the plates over and decorate! Make the eyes, nose, arms, and buttons. Give him an outfit—scarf, hat, mittens, whatever you’d like!
3
Let it dry, and then hang wherever you need some winter flare!
T
his month, Playworks is collecting mittens to donate to the Community Action Partnership (CAP Agency).
The more you bring in, the more we are able to help our neighbors in Scott, Carver and Dakota counties.
Other ways you can
The CAP Agency’s mission is to empower economic and social self-sufficiency. The organization does this by providing a helping hand and the tools and resources needed to be self-sufficient for the path ahead. Playworks is among CAP Agency’s many partners—including schools, businesses, philanthropic entities, public entities, and other non-profits, and faith-based organizations.

Breakfast Casserole
Ingredients
Directions
In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs until beaten. Add quinoa, milk, salt and pepper, and whisk until combined. Gently mix in spinach, tomatoes and ½ cup shredded cheese. Spray crock well with nonstick spray. Add egg and quinoa mixture to crock. As it cooks, the quinoa will sink to the bottom and create a crust! Top with Parmesan cheese. Cover and cook on high for 2-4 hours until eggs are set and edges are lightly browned. Feel free to add or substitute any veggies you like. The options are endless!
