SPRING BREAK : the open road, sunshine, and family tim e. It’s a blissfu l scene straight out of a movie, until the first “are we there yet?” H ere are some tip s for road trips to get you g oing down the ri ght path:
Do Pre-Work
Resist Screens
Let Go
Just like any trip, a successful road trip starts with planning. Once you’re in the car, it can be hard to think of things to do. View a road trip as a trip in itself, and plan and pack accordingly– prepare snacks, print out games, bring activities, etc.
With busy schedules and daily routines, how often do you get to spend uninterrupted time together? Plopping your child in front of a laptop or video game is tempting, but use this time to bond as a family. Road trips bring a great opportunity to interact and learn about each other.
Preparing for a trip can be stressful. By the time you are all packed in the car, you may already feel overwhelmed. Kids take cues from their parents on how to feel about things. Before you get into the car, let go of work, schedules, to-do lists, and other things weighing on your mind. Leave it all outside the car. And remember, it’s not the destination, it’s the journey.
